Inspired by a heated discussion about whether M&S or Waitrose is posher, please rank the following supermarkets from poshest to least classy:

Aldi
Asda
Iceland
Lidl
Marks and Spencer
Morrisons
Sainsburys
Tesco
Waitrose

Thanks in advance!

Morrisons will always be at the bottom of my list. I’ve never visited one which has enticed me to buy anything. ☹️

I think it just totally depends where you live.

Within 15 mins of my house I have an M&S, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi, two Tescos, a huge Iceland and an Asda.

I don't like Tesco.

Never been to Morrisons.

Absolutely hate Aldi.

Lidl is crap.

Iceland is ok for low price branded items.

I really do not like M&S. Will never understand why it's more expensive.

I love Asda.

I am going to rate based on the PEOPLE that shop at the one's I go in.
1-5 (5 being most snobby)

Aldi - 1 AND 5
Asda - 2
Iceland - 1
Lidl - 1
Marks and Spencer 2.5
Morrisons - 2
Sainsburys - 3
Tesco - 2
Waitrose - 5

Aldi & waitrose always have stuck up t..ts in my experience !

I love when people get out of there 40 grand cars in the Aldi car park and walk round with their nose in the air as they put the 80P loaf of bread in the trolly 😂😂

I don't view them in terms of class. But shopping experience.
I don't enjoy lidl or aldi except their lebcuchen range at Xmas. I certainly don't enjoy their queues.
I enjoy mooching around waitrose and m and s.

This thread has to have been started by a middle or upper class wannabe...

... Because It doesn't go in terms of price because everyone knows the truly rich are stingy and love Aldi

Gosh, the MFs are out in force today! Grin It's a lighthearted thread, meant to solve a tongue-in-cheek discussion in the pub. Of course supermarkets themselves don't have a social class, but this is asking you to imagine that they do. Hmm

Oh, and specially for @GrassAndDaisies - I'm middle middle class all the way. State school, Oxbridge, professional career. No different to half of the forum!

I don't think it's a fair comparison. Iceland is a predominantly frozen food shop. It's animal welfare is higher than Tesco's. It's removed palm oil from it's products and has made a pledge to soon be non recyclable plastic free. The delivery is still free and doesn't have as high spend amount as the others.

It's Vegan range, no bull burgers etc are good and the frozen veg is the cheapest around.

However,
Waitrose,
M&S,
Sainsbury's (on a few items).
But then they all merge a bit.

Haven't been in Morrison's for years as not local but they used to have the best plants at bargain prices.

What is classy about Waitrose?

When I last shopped in one they wanted to charge £1.65 for a loaf of bog standard sliced white. It was £1.00 everywhere else at the time.

I will shop in M & S for Christmas biscuits and Iceland for frozen veg. Neither are places for a proper big shop.

Sainsburys. Our local is a bit crap, bad for parking and come September full of students.

Tescos. I just don't like the place and it is more expensive than Asda. Why pay more than you have to?

Asda, Morrisons, Aldi all fine.

Don't think of one shop being posher than another if I'm honest. I've got bags for life from all of them in the car.

It depends where you live. In my area Aldi is very middle class, more so than the Morrisons across the road. I would say:

Marks and Spencer
Waitrose
Sainsbury's
Aldi / Lidl
Morrison's
Tesco
Iceland
Asda

To quote our decorator who has just moved here from London, "The hooray Henries round here all shop at Aldi, don't they?"

I'm with ilovepinkgin this is a bit ridiculous. Supermarkets don't have a class surely? I shop anywhere which sells what I happen to want. Sometimes m and s, mainly Aldi, occasionally Sainsbury's. I don't think that fact suggests anything at all about me or those retailers tbh.

Deathraystare · 15/08/2019 15:52

I don't mind Lidl normally but I did march out in a temper re their no sales assistant machines (what the hell are they called? Can't remember). There are loads of 'cash machines supposedly but most do not work.

I tend to go in early morning to get some rolls when I am down on my pennies and of course the assistants are not on their tills that early so have to use the machines.
