Inspired by a heated discussion about whether M&S or Waitrose is posher, please rank the following supermarkets from poshest to least classy:

Aldi
Asda
Iceland
Lidl
Marks and Spencer
Morrisons
Sainsburys
Tesco
Waitrose

Thanks in advance!

Depends what you want to buy as to how relevant the shop is.

Anyone who shops in M&S or Waitrose for cat litter must have money to burn.
Likewise , if you want fresh fish you WOULD favour Probably Waitrose or Morrisons.

Posh doesnt really come into is

I think Aldi is fairly unusual in being a somewhat classless supermarket.

Waitrose and M&S are the two where you can be most-effectively fleeced but M&S has no class at all and Waitrose has very little.
The others, well, they're for those amongst us who are poor. Or stingy. Or both.

As far as I understand it Aldi and lidl are for the poor and the very rich.
M and S and waitrose are for people who think where they shop is a reflection on them as a person.
Iceland is for the desperate and everywhere else is much of a muchness.
Personally I go in wherever I am passing except Aldi because every time I have tried it every thing goes off in a day or two.

justanotherlurker I don't think it's intended to be a serious debate about class

I always liked the saying that the point of M&S was to keep the riff-raff out of Waitrose.

Don't know about Morrison's as don't have one near me. But agree re: Sainsbury's and must had the quality of their food has significantly dropped.

I’m surprised Lidl scores so lowly here and Tesco so highly unless I’m spoilt with the two Lidl’s I frequent so regularly that are 200 miles apart.

If Co-op were included it would go between Tesco’s and Morrisons

@Anotherusefulname not really. I do shop at M&S for produce but thats because it actually lasts the entire week not like Tesco crap that goes off in your fridge after 2 days. Then I go asda or sainsburys for the rest because they are a stones throw.

Food is fuel and nourishment for your body - I would rather spend more on longer lasting and fresh produce.
