Not sure where to post this! DD has just turned8 & says she feels left out at school sometimes as her friends talk abut YouTube and Netflix & she doesn’t know what they’re talking about. To be fair, I don’t either. She has a Kindle & there’s an age limit on that content, she still likes what she calls baby stuff but I’m open to her exploring other age appropriate content but I’m not sure what to guide her towards as I don’t know there is. Her friend mentioned the Norris Nuts but that looks quite grown up to me?

My two 6and 8 love Ninja kids and also love the pranks. They're allowed to watch Nina kids generally but other stuff they have to wait til one of us is in the room with them. 8yr old loves watching people building Lego/ playing mine craft like Dan tdm etc but we really limit this as he goes into a weird 'zone' when he does.
Just add magic/Sam and Kat the nick type things they both enjoy. Thunder mans/victorious/kid danger etc.
6 yr old loves pop videos but even those aimed at her age are a bit dodgy at times. I think haushak (?) sisters is a happy medium for her.

I had to ban that awful Yeager family and Bro vs Sis (and a bunch of other YouTube “families”) because it was such fucking dross I couldn’t bear to even be in the same room as it. I don’t mind the gamers - DD (nearly 8) likes watching Mario stuff.

On Netflix she likes the Boss Baby series.

She’ll also watch Peppa Pig of her own volition Hmm

inbetweenforever · 10/08/2019 22:03

Mine watches teen titans go, captain underpants and anything Spider-Man or marvel on Netflix. YouTube he watches gamers, pranks and minecraft.

Haworthia · 10/08/2019 22:04

Oh yes, Storybots is a good one too, although one of the male singers has such a nasal voice it starts to grate (you can tell it’s the summer holidays and my patience is thin Grin) but the content is great so I can cope with it. Some funny celeb guest stars too. Watched Snoop Dogg explaining computers yesterday.

LMNOhh · 10/08/2019 22:05

Following for future reference 😬

Teen Titans
Voltron
She-ra
Troll Hunters
3 below
The Dragon Prince
Boss Baby
Just Add Magic
Something about girls turning into mermaids
Something about a girl d's football team
Spirit

On youtube, she mostly watches music videos. Right now she's watching and researching all the songs from the Descendants movies. She also likes game/TV/movie reviews and some science type channels like the Slow Mo guys.

Singleandproud · 10/08/2019 22:17

YouTube we watch together, we like the FBE react videos, they are a set of videos where children, teens, college kids, adults and elders react to different things, there is occasional swearing in the teens ones normally its bleeped out though.. DD particularly enjoys the kids reacting to ancient tech like Walkmans and blockbusters. Or she likes playing along with the “Try not to (aww, move, smile, dance) series.

We also watch animators vs illustrators and watch and copy lots of drawing tutorials, particularly Kuwaii and word toons.

On Netflix she has free reign on her kids profile, she particularly enjoys Horrible Histories and Who was? Which is similar as well as Brain games. We’ve finished most of the Nickelodeon shows on there now, Victorious, Sam and Cat, Haunted Hathaways, game shakers. For watching together Family Reunion is good (has one of the Sister Sister twins in it) and A series of Unfortunate events.

If she has access to Amazon prime DD enjoyed Just add magic.

StarWanderer · 10/08/2019 22:22

7 year old likes Dan TDM, Stampy Cat (can't stand his voice!), Dip Dap cartoons. Some good suggestions on here!

bouncingraindrops · 10/08/2019 22:26

Mine is 9 and she loves saffron barker, she saw one of her videos which her older sister was watching where she ordered the same food as the car in front at McDonald's and she loved it!

If it's not that it will be mine craft videos.

Borris · 10/08/2019 22:29

Spirit, Free Rein, Pony Sitters Club (horse mad 8 yr old)

Don’t let her watch YouTube

BykerBykerOoh · 10/08/2019 22:34

We watch the IT Crowd and Big Bang Theory as a family because we all find them funny at different levels.

8 year old dd likes The Next Step on Netflix and minecraft gamers on YouTube.

drspouse · 10/08/2019 22:37

My DS is a little more immature than most but we just discovered Storybots. He used to like The Deep and Dragons but I think he worked out they are a bit scary!
He also likes Cosmic Kids yoga which they used to do at school, and we watch loads of music videos, often stuff from when DH and I were younger but if he sings something from school or dancing I try to find it.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 10/08/2019 22:46

The Dragon Prince, Netflix we love it
Little Lunch Netflix
The Hollow Netflix
Brain Child Netflix
Minecraft Netflix
Family movies
Roblox on YouTube

Iggi999 · 11/08/2019 00:20

A series of unfortunate events is good.
Do you have a profile set up on netflix? That way you can ensure that only children's stuff appears and you don't find her watching Orange is the new black or similar.

Fragalino · 11/08/2019 00:35

Same, Minecraft, toy reviews.

Adores mia and me on Netflix.
Chat nior.
Snow White film with Diana Rigg, old but atmosphere.
Paw patrol

Fantail · 11/08/2019 02:54

On YouTube my DD likes a series called “Where I live” about life in Japan.

She also likes a travel Vlogger with a channel called Strictly Dumpling. It’s basically one guy trying food from different countries.

She also likes to watch ballet and dance videos either to learn routes or to perfect steps. YouTube taught us how to force her very thick hair into a ballet bun.

There are also some good videos about how people got dressed at various periods of time.

She only accesses You Tube with me. There is a lot of great stuff, but also a load of rubbish, even on the kids channel.

Netflix - via her own kids channel. Cartoons as above, but more and more she likes the “real life actors” programmes. The Worst Witch is a current favourite.

We’ve also watched cooking game shows like Sugar Rush.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 11/08/2019 03:17

My daughter is obsessed with Cookie Swirl C and also likes Roblox. (Which to be fair is the only thing I enjoy playing with her as well😳)

MrsDrSpencerReid · 11/08/2019 03:24

My kids love the Norris Nuts, they’re 9 & 12 but have been watching them since the beginning.

We went to a meet and greet with them and they are honestly the loveliest family Smile

They also love watching EvanTube, he has a few different channels but they love the family challenges and when they do ‘cruise week’.

Longdistance · 11/08/2019 03:58

My dds 8 and 9 watch all the horsey kids shows.

YouTube they watch Minecraft and Ninja warrior.

Nottheduchess · 11/08/2019 04:13

YouTube: Dan TDM, Morgz and fortnite videos
Netflix: teen titans go, series of unfortunate events, haunted hathaways, Sam and Kat.

Angrybird123 · 11/08/2019 08:19

Mine (8&10) like sis vs bro, Morgz and Origins Explained, plus Horrible Histories Gory Games show. I hate them watching the Morgz, sis & bro type stuff. Dumb challenges that are just utter drivel. I rarely let them but don't mind if it's an actual show or finding interesting stuff out. They also just discovered the Wicked musical so they've been watching clips of songs. The younger one will still watch Paw Patrol, Peppa etc when she's tired.

BB8sm8 · 11/08/2019 09:51

Oh my goodness this is amazing thank you! And I feel completely out of it, how did I not know all this?! Now this sounds silly but...how does Netflix work? She can have her pwn account can she? I can’t believe She-Ra is still doing the rounds, I loved that in the 80s!
