Interested to know of your experiences, please.

None at all.

Robs20 · 08/08/2019 21:51

My dd took it and had no side effects.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 08/08/2019 21:53

I've taken it for on two separate occasions once for pregnancy related heart burn and secondly for a stomach ulcer.

And never had any negative side effects. It worked really well.

Zero side effects for me.

ThanksMateThanksMate · 08/08/2019 21:58

I've taken it for years. There's no evidence this is related...HOWEVER.... my family would all testify that the air isn't always as "fresh" as it once was! 🤮🤢
I wouldn't give it up though. If I forget to take it for only one day, my reflux returns with a vengeance.
God bless Ikea candles and wax melts!

MiddleForDiddle · 08/08/2019 21:58

I'm on Lansoprazole, DH and DS take omeprazole. No side effects, although if I miss one I get horrendous reflux.

I think apparently its well tolerated by most people with minimal side effects.

Hirsutefirs · 08/08/2019 22:00

None after many years on it.

I took it for a short time and found I had a small weight gain. I don’t know if this is an actual side effect or just a coincidence.

ZazieTheCat · 08/08/2019 22:02

I got the rash (arms) the leaflet in the pack mentions. GP switched me to Ranitidine and Gaviscon.

SophiaLarsen · 08/08/2019 22:03

Side effects for me:

Increased tolerance so the doctor doubled my daily dose then that stopped working so I swapped to lanzoprazole.

Sinus infections. Twice requiring antibiotics.

General sinus and facial nerve pain both related to taking the medication.

Over reliance on it and needed to wean off as I was concerned with long term effects. I have idiopathic GERD and gastrointestinal consultant prescribed lanzoprazole, metoclopramide and ranitidine. All daily or twice daily.

Was making me shattered. Eliminating some key food stuffs and then also weaning myself off means I am down to ranitidine 2-3 times a week.

KitKat1985 · 08/08/2019 22:04

Nurse here. Obviously everyone is different, but it's rare that I see patients having side effects from omeprazole.

Fairylea · 08/08/2019 22:07

It interferes with the absorption of the steroids I take for Addison’s disease so I can’t take it, however many others on the Addison’s forum I’m on do take it long term without any difficulties so I think I was just unlucky. I take high dose Nexium instead.

BlueEyedPersephone · 08/08/2019 22:12

Makes me vomit so I can't take it.

AntiHop · 08/08/2019 22:13

None.

Nosavingshere · 08/08/2019 22:15

I’ve had no side effects whatsoever, it was like a miracle cure for me but I would like to wean myself off it as I’ve been taking it for years.

aliensprig · 08/08/2019 22:15

Those of you with GERD/reflux - have you had your thyroid levels checked? My reflux was at its worst when my TSH was found to be out of control. Turned out years of omeprazole usage plus antacid tablets had contributed to low stomach acid (not high, as I thought) and now I'm on levothyroxine-no more reflux, no more PPIs. Just my experience though!

missyB1 · 08/08/2019 22:16

None. I’ve been in it for about 5 years now. I can’t manage without it, I get horrible acid coming up into my mouth if I don’t take it.

GloriaSnockers · 08/08/2019 22:19

No side effects here. I take 20mg once per day.

baldisbeautiful · 08/08/2019 22:20

I was prescribed this when I first got diagnosed with Addison's disease and it really helped me with no obvious side effects. Managed to wean off it after a few weeks when I had got used to the steroids.

Nosavingshere · 08/08/2019 22:28

To pp who have weaned themselves off, do you have any recommendations.
When I have tried before I’ve ended up way worse later on that day having to take about 4 Rennies and 2 omerprazole instead of my usual one in the morning

Likethebattle · 08/08/2019 22:31

I was on s high dose I was exhausted and had joint pain. I’m back on 20mg as my reflux is terrible and ranitidine doesn’t help.

ritzbiscuits · 08/08/2019 22:35

I had dry mouth from it.
