I take it daily and have done for a few years. I've got severe acid reflux disease. No side effects. If I forget to take it though the acid comes back really bad. They can take a few days to 'kick in'. I know a few people who take it and no one has said it gives them side effects. In fact, it's a lifesaver.

Huh, I take it sporadically (sometimes every day, sometimes every other day, sometimes break for a few days), and would have said symptom free, but I've just posted about my suspicions of low iron...

I had horrendous bowel problems with omerprazole so am now on lansoprazole. But it seems that's more to do with omerprazole often being bulked with lactose where lansoprozole isn't.

Farting!

I used to only take it in the morning and by the time I left work at 3pm it was ahem quite bad. I remember leaning into the car to strap DC in and letting rip uncontrollably. If it had been ten minutes earlier the street would have been packed with parents and children. < shudder >

I didn't really mind, you can't take something that is supposed to affect your digestion and not expect it to affect your digestion. Grin

Anyway apart from that - nothing

If been deficient in iron and b vits too. Doctor claimed it was nothing to do with the omeprozole but after reading this, I'm not so sure. I just take a multi vitamin and mineral supplement daily which works. As I can't not take the omeprozole. I wouldn't be able to eat and life would be unbearable.

Thanks again everyone. Some side effects have settled after a few days, but some rather unwelcome digestive effects are ongoing.

Very interesting re B12 with long-term use - my husband takes omeprazole as protection against other medications. He's had no obvious side effects but we agree that he may well be B12 deficient.

I tried lansoprazole a few years ago when I lost my voice. I swiftly developed a large bubble under my tongue, which burst after 24 hours. It freaked me out so much I never took it again. I've only recently realised that my recurring sore throats seem to be caused by acid.

(In case that doesn't make sense - reflux wasn't the main cause of my voice loss).
