I have the police coming round later...

...and I'm shitting it. Even though I've done nothing wrong.

NC but a regular - don't want this linking to my usual name

I live in an apartment block with my husband and 5 year old son. We have owned and lived there for 10 years. Had the odd issue with noise of smoking of weed but it usually dies down when the concierge has had a word.

A new resident, tenant, moved in approx 4 months ago. Began to smell weed in the communal area. Had a word with consierge who said he would ask around.

Have been in the lift with/immediately after resident and they stink to high hell of weed.

Keeps happening so much so i was having a pee this morning and could smell weed in my bathroom.

There are other issues with this resident - they have a dog which is against the head lease and their tenancy. They seem to have a bltanat disregard.

Management company are being wet hankies because they can't "directly accuse someone" if they don't have concrete evidence. Also the resident is in the process of transitioning and is of Asian heritage I think. As such, they're scared to be seen as vicitmising this person, who is also unde rpolice protection apparently for having had death threats from family for their choice to transition.

Black, Pink, Blue, Green, round, fat, thin... I don't care. None of that bothers me.

What bothers me is my family and my home being inflicted upon by this selfish person.

I went and banged on their door and they wouldnt answer. then had the audacity to say to the consierge they felt uncomnrtable in their own home.

I have reported it to the police, again. Had a call at 3.30 from the police. I am not home but they are passing it to another office who will be in touch after 4.30.

Why do I feel sick and nervous when we/I have done nothing wrong.

I am fed up of having to smell weed in my home. I am fed up of feeling like I have to check for it in my own home. I am fed up of this person's blatant disregard for other people.

Not sure why I posted... hand hold I suppose.

I doubt the police will do much, if anything tbh.

ParkheadParadise · 08/08/2019 17:56

I would be surprised if the police actually turn up.

TheQueef · 08/08/2019 17:56

Where do you live 1965?
The police are coming because you can smell weed and a neighbour has a dog?
Rhubarb.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 08/08/2019 18:00

I feel for you. The smell of weed is disgusting and I’d hate it in my own home. Are others complaining too?

LittleLongDog · 08/08/2019 18:01

I went and banged on their door and they wouldnt answer.
Could you start by being calm? Tell them nicely that the smell is getting in to your home? Kill them with kindness before you resort to all guns blazing.

Passthecherrycoke · 08/08/2019 18:02

The police are probably coming from a community policing point of view but I suspect they’ll just explain to you why they can’t do anything. I suppose they might bang on the neighbours door and tell them someone has complained.

Ocicat · 08/08/2019 18:04

You went and banged on the door of a vulnerable person for the sake of a bit of weed? Rather than try to sort things amicably, you leapt straight to making formal complaints?

I’m amazed the police would come out for weed possession.

StoorieHoose · 08/08/2019 18:04

MY mum's house had an attempted break-in when they were on holiday. Police didn't come out and we got a follow up call about 6 weeks later.

What did you hope to achieve when your were banging on their door?

Shittiestdayinalongtime · 08/08/2019 18:05

My friend has this problem. The neighbours smoke and sell drugs. No one seems to be bothered. She has to try and have proof of the drug dealing. The police dont care, no one seems to. It stinks whenever I go and visit. Really feel for you.

HappyHammy · 08/08/2019 18:08

How do you know they are under police protection, maybe the police need to do a welfare check on them if they do come round.

TerrifiedandWorried · 08/08/2019 18:10

I've been waiting for the police to come since 4pm yesterday after my 12 & 9 year boys were assaulted while playing in the park. Send them here if they turn up.

Jojowiththebowbow · 08/08/2019 18:14

The council referred the threatening behaviour of my neighbour to the police.

I’m still waiting 3 weeks later.

Unless it’s high profile the police don’t give a shit.

EileenAlanna · 08/08/2019 18:16

Unfortunately you may find the police are coming to give you a warning. While most other crimes don't elicit much response many police forces have been "trained" in hyper vigilance over anything that slightly bothers a trans person. There have been several horrendous abuses of police power over this.
You've done nothing wrong or unreasonable - certainly nothing criminal. Unlike the neighbour.

GabsAlot · 08/08/2019 18:18

Erm no offence but unless theres something else going on they wont be coming round-not to check on you anyway

HollowTalk · 08/08/2019 18:20

Are you the same person who was talking about Susan, the trans athlete, on the other thread?

StoorieHoose · 08/08/2019 18:23

This thread is like MN bingo

Trans
Dogs
weed
Logging it with the police

Do they also park in your parking space?

Jaxhog · 08/08/2019 18:25

The police will come if they think your neighbour is growing weed (as opposed to smoking it).

RushianDisney · 08/08/2019 18:26

The police won't do anything, especially not if this person is classed as vulnerable. The best thing you could have done was put a note in their letter box/under their door/on doormat telling them how their smoking is affecting you and asking them to refrain from smoking, or at least put a towel against the bottom of the door or smoke by a window. Maybe still worth a try once you've ascertained you aren't the ones in trouble with the police for making them feel 'uncomfortable'.

helpmum2003 · 08/08/2019 18:26

You are totally reasonable to not want your house to smell of weed.

Lilyrose90 · 08/08/2019 18:29

I feel for you OP because weed smells repulsive.
BUT
Wtf are you thinking involving the police?!

fudgesmummy · 08/08/2019 18:29

@StoorieHoose
Don’t forget are they giving their dc a Greggs sausage roll and a fruit shoot for tea? 😂

catofdoom · 08/08/2019 18:30

I am fed up of feeling like I have to check for it in my own home

What? You think they're going to break in and lea e some in your flat? Confused

Cohle · 08/08/2019 18:31

"I have reported it to the police, again."

How many times have you called the police about this??

HeyMonkey · 08/08/2019 18:31

Why would there be weed in your home?

StoorieHoose · 08/08/2019 18:32

@fudgesmummy dang it! Hope they are having pom bears for afters
