Anyone else starting to realise that they're a bit 'old fashioned' the more they're on MN?

Or maybe I've just stopped giving such a shit about what people think of me? Though I'm unsure if this is true as I have been a rampant people pleaser all my life, but maybe I just care a wee bit less.

I don't think it's cool or funny that kids swear at their parents. ('Don't they all'? No).

I do think it's shit to let kids sit on various devices for a majority of the
day - although I get that sometimes it happens.

I also want comfort dammit. I want comfortable shoes, comfortable chairs and a lovely cup of tea with a scone.

I roll my eyes so far back into my head at the various #bollocks I see on social media (which I quite like actually).

I also appear to be getting a bit fucking judgemental and I'm not sure I even care.

Do I need to put 'lighthearted' on this? OK. .

professorslocombe, yes there will be a call log but that is quite different to the MN idea of logging an incident with the police (where I think there is a belief that call handlers do have a mystical spreadsheet, and officers have nothing else to do but attend to wheely bins that are moved out of place and neighbours who glare in passing Grin)

@Pinkout I love the library as it's free. I could never afford to buy all those books (even second hand), and I can reserve pretty much anything if it's not on the shelf also for free.

I can't be responsible for the misapprehensions of MNetters ....

I reckon I'm a bit old fashioned but when I read all the environmentally friendly threads realise the things I do are all the rage now (then I realise I definitely am old fashioned for using the phrase "all the rage").

I don't have a tumble dryer and dry everything outside or on an airer - always have

I use baby wipes for poo nappies and occasionally when out and about but usually a wet flannel does the job. Ditto antiseptic wipes - I bought a packet for cleaning the tables in a community centre I hired in October and still have some left.

I've literally never bought a takeaway coffee to drink "on the go". I sometimes have a McDonalds coffee which does come in a disposable cup, but we only go there very occasionally.

I tend to mend clothes / homewares (except socks and tights) and mostly buy only what is needed.

Re swearing, my delightful 5 year old learnt the term "fuckhead" within 3 days of starting school. Thankfully she has never said it again. It was made crystal clear that it was not acceptable.

"I don't own a smartphone, just a cheap basic mobile phone, which I don't use much."

Are you DH in disguise? I made him upgrade his phone two years ago to one (still a ‘dumb’ phone) that actually holds charge. He just went to top up the credit this week and was confused about how to do it - they’ve changed things again. the (Young) lady in the phone shop couldn’t understand why until she asked when he’d last topped up and he said ‘2017’. She was stunned.

I'm old now - not just old-fashioned.

Was absolutely delighted yesterday when someone asked me if I wanted a seat on the bus - hell yes... thank you very much... teenaged gentleman puffed his chest with pride, I got a comfy seat - 2 people happy!

I have never drunk a drink from a "paper" cup, I have never used a plastic straw, and nor will I, I always use a shopping basket, or a granny trolley - never a plastic bag - who knew I was such an "eco warrior" Grin for simply being old-fashioned.

DaisyChains6 · 06/08/2019 17:39

Scones with jam and cream aren't old fashioned, they are very trendy thanks to the likes of British Bake off. All the homemade style cakes and bread are "on trend" and have been for a decade.

I still use the library and listen to CDs. I still rented DVDs up until about 5 years ago when the video shop closed down.

@SoMuchToBits
My replacement was a simple one as well, that can only text and make phone calls. Another Nokia, though the new generation isn't as good (=longlasting and stable) as the old one. I dropped my old one hundreds of times and it was still perfeclty fine apart from a few scratches. And the battery lasted approx. 1 week, while being on all the time - almost 10 years after I bought it!

Libraries aren't a "thing" anymore? We borrow stacks of book from our library. My daughter got her own library card when she was a baby, my son when he was a year old (because we used to borrow so many books, that we reached the limits, so he got his own Wink)

I still have my original paper driving licence. It's still legal and I don't see the need to get a photo one. When I pull it out there's usually gasps.
I love the local library too.

This is what i meant people suggesting you waste police time but just getting it written down
