The Daily Mail now INSISTS I disable my adblocker.

Has this happened to anyone else yet? It's the first time I've had this happen. Can't access any content until I disable my adblocker. Even reloading the page doesn't make any difference.

Other news sites are available

There must be a careful balance between running enough ads that you make the money you need to run the site, and having so many you piss people off and they resort to ad blockers. For a site such as a newspaper, where they employ staff to provide the content, they depend on sales. So as RL sales fall, they need those ads or will have to charge. Or ask for donations, as The Guardian does.

BBC will remain free, so you'll never be completely cut off from the news

A window popped up yesterday requesting me to turn ADBLOCK plus off so i did and had all these ads bouncing around the screen could not enjoy reading the online daily mail so turned adblock plus back on and the window popped up again requesting me to turn adblock plus off, so i have gone to Daily Express online so i have concluded that the Daily Mail have kicked me off their site because i had adblock plus installed bye bye Daily Mail.

AdBlock isn't the only tool you need ...

NoScript which stops sites loading and running scripts (which are then used to pull advertising from 3rd party sides).

Also, it's useful to have a router that blocks access to tracking sites, as these are polled to decided what ads to show.

Just about makes the internet usable in a 2001 way again.

Part of the problem is the greed of site operators is such that even if you subscribe, you still get ads.

Unless there is something especially unique about the Mails cheery blend of celebs, lies and bile I'm sure there are other sources on the internet though.

Today was the first day I encountered this problem and it just makes the Daily Mail website unreadable - this time for all the wrong reasons lol
What a total pain! I hope there's another adblocker out there that can get around this.

Well, millions of people watch love island, and used to watch the Jeremy Kyle show. Big brother, x-factor, gogglebox and the list goes on. Doesn’t make them any less shite.

But all that aside, ads are becoming such a thing now that there will come a time when people just won’t bother, because often the amount of ads leave the sites unreadable so instead of turning off the ad blocker people just won’t bother to read at all.

To get around this, you need to disable javascript in Chrome, which is easy.
3 dots top right of Chrome- settings - advanced-site settings- javascript, under 'block' add 'www.dailymail.co.uk ' with no inverted commas.
Exit settings and refresh Mail website, you can now scroll and read with no Ads Wink

Only bad thing is that you cannot login to post comments, but who wants to join the YaBoo sucks crowd anyway ...

Quite aside from the fact that ads clutter a screen and can render screenreaders useless (another kick in the teeth for the less able, although that's not going to worry Daily Mail readers overly) there's also the fact that they can slow your machine down to a crawl and if you're on a metered/mobile connection, you are paying for the bandwidth.

These poor little snowflakes. Spare a thought but Fascism comes at a price, not just for those who are demonised by it, but also for those who encourage it and wallow in it for their own unfathomable reasons.

The least these poor lambs could do is click a few ads for the Thai brides and erectile dysfunction preps that shine a light on their partner's browsing history.

It's always wiser to know what your enemy is saying than hide in an echo chamber imo Plus some of us need to read papers from across the spectrum for professional reasons.

Anyway yy OP I noticed this today too and I agree it makes it unreadable.

Those warnings give me the rage. I usually just click away immediately. Don't want me to use your site? Okay, I won't then - despite the fact I have the option on adblock to allow unobtrusive ads, so you might have been getting revenue from me anyway. No problem.

When there is a nice message explaining that a website uses ads as an income stream I will often think about disabling it for that site.

Presumably they've discovered that the vast bulk of their readership aren't knowledgeable enough to set up an adblock. They certainly know their demographic.

I've noticed it too. Annoying. Yes, I read the DM along with other sites. The DM has quite a nice travel section and the odd interesting thing on the money section. I don't read the celebrity bit as don't know most people. Most people I know read a few sites.
