Tell me about getting ready in the morning

I am not good at this. I never leave enough time and feel like I'm in a rush. I want to go back to work and I know this is a hurdle for me. I don't even have young kids to get ready!

So. Tell me what time you have to leave the house by, what time you get up, and what you manage to do in that time. Please!

Up at 6.30. Coffee, 20 min workout then shower. Wake ds, load/unload washing machine, run hoover around. Get dressed, quick breakfast, leave at 8.30. I have one 10 year old who sorts himself out and leaves at the same time.
I'm at my most productive in the mornings though.

SimonJT · 29/07/2019 09:19

I get up at 6am and leave the house at 8am.

Here is my routine.
6am do either a 45 minute insanity routine or 45 minutes of weights
6:45 am shower
7am do bloods
7:05am get dressed
7:15am wake up son
7:20 clean his teeth and get him to use the toilet
7:30 he gets dressed while I sort my insulin
7:45 we both eat breakfast
8 we leave the house, lunches are sorted the night before so just need grabbing from the fridge
8:15 arrive at nursery
8:20 arrive at the tube station
8:50ish arrive at work

RamonaQuimbyAge8 · 29/07/2019 09:20

Thanks winsome. Can I ask of you getting dressed involves hair/makeup routine of any length? Do you check social media in the mornings?

I leave at 8. I have 2 kids and manage to get up at 7, get a shower and dressed. 7.20, have breakfast. 7.30 get kids dressed and finish myself (hair and makeup). Leave at 8am
Lunch is made the night before. I have long thick hair so get up half an hour earlier if my hair needs washing.

hidinginthenightgarden · 29/07/2019 09:23

Every other day DD gets me up at 6. On those days I spend the first hour sat around on SM or tidying the kitchen.

Alarae · 29/07/2019 09:23

6:40 - alarm goes off
6:50 - finally get up and go to bathroom (peruse Internet on the throne while waking up, brush teeth)
7:00 - grab clothes and get dressed
7:05 - slow makeup application
7:30 - make breakfast
7:40 - leave for work

I don't move quickly in the morning. I could if I wanted to, but prefer a slower pace while I'm waking up.

Hellohah · 29/07/2019 09:25

Get up 6.45, have a shower. Wake DS up, brush teeth. DS has breakfast while I dry my hair, leave house 7.20.

Winsomelosesome · 29/07/2019 09:26

I do my hair the night before and just wear bb cream, lip balm and mascara, takes 5 minutes.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 29/07/2019 09:36

I am not a morning person. I do as much as possible the night before - make sure work bag is ready etc, even deciding what to wear.

GreenTulips · 29/07/2019 09:38

Why not time yourself a few mornings so you know how long thing take
AND build in an extra 10/15 mins for checking doors are locked putting a wash load on etc

DisplayPurposesOnly · 29/07/2019 09:39

Also, work out how long it takes you to do something, and work back from that.

I know it takes me 45-60 mins to shower etc, dress, dry hair, make bed, put on (v little) make-up. That means I need to be out of bed an hour before I leave the house.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 29/07/2019 09:42

I have a 14mo and no need for an alarm, but it’s set for 6am anyway. Up by 6.15, shower for me, dress us both, teeth etc (makeup and dry hair for me), downstairs by 7am for breakfast, leave by 7.15

HerSymphonyAndSong · 29/07/2019 09:43

I would love to exercise before work but my son’s early waking (he goes back to sleep until 6 ish but needs my help) makes this difficult.

Singleandproud · 29/07/2019 09:48

I’m awful in the morning. What makes the biggest difference is not touching any devices so I cant waste time on MN, reading the news, SM until after I am ready to leave.

Monkeybunkey · 29/07/2019 09:52

6.30am alarm goes off, get in shower and wash hair
6.45am get dressed and go down for breakfast
7.00am hang washing out (if done overnight)/quick smoke in garden
7.10am brush teeth and put face on
7.25am walk dog
8.00am leave for work

Winterlife · 29/07/2019 09:55

It takes me about 45 minutes to get ready. I shower, put on makeup, make a latte and a boiled egg, then get dressed. When our 3 children were in school it took me double that time, as I prepared a hot breakfast and made and packed their lunches.

muddledmidget · 29/07/2019 09:59

I don't go on social media in the morning until I am ready to leave the house, almost like a motivating factor to get ready as quickly as possible.
On an early shift I get up at 5.50 and go straight downstairs to avoid disturbing DH. Straight to the kitchen to boil the kettle then use the bathroom/2 min shower while it boils and then get dressed (clothes organised night before and brought downstairs)
Make a cup of coffee and let it cool while I straighten hair and do make up. Put on shoes/check bag ready and then drink coffee and eat overnight oats. If time, check SM, if not, leave the house at 6.15 (breakfast is portable and can be taken with me!)

Aebj · 29/07/2019 10:02

5:30am- quick wee , clean teeth, sports kit on , feed cats
5:45 - leave for gym
6:45-7 get back from gym
Quickly make sandwiches, peel and chop and carrot for ds2 who loves carrots! Ds1 gets an apple or pear.
7am make sure both boys are thinking of getting up
Unload dishwasher
7:10-7:15ish, jump into shower get dressed ( don’t wear make up, tie hair up, takes 2 seconds!)
7:30 have a cup of tea, breakfast and watch headline news . Make sure ds1 leaves around 7:40
7:50-7:55 leave with ds2. Drop him at school and then at work just before 8:30.
Apart from today and Mondays from now on! Ds 1 started a new school last week ( we live in Australia) , so he now starts at 7:36am so I take him to school at 7:10 and back home for 7:35. Quick shower and cup of tea , which ds 2 will make me!!

notso · 29/07/2019 10:21

Term time
Up at 6:15
Shower, dress and downstairs with a load of washing by 6:30,
Put tea in the pot,
Put washing on,
Feed pets,
Pour and drink tea,
Empty dishwasher,
Set breakfast table,

Breakfast is usually until 7:30, I sit with the kids and have my second cup of tea,

Leave to walk younger two ideally 8:25 but can leave as late as 8:40 and still be on time,
9:10/15 Return from school run
Relax Smile

Holidays,
Anything goes!

Iamthewombat · 29/07/2019 10:44

It takes me an hour and ten minutes MINIMUM and I don’t even have kids (grown up stepkids don’t live with us).

My husband, who works from home, moans about it all the time but my response is, if you like having a well turned out wife, this is what comes with it.

I have to have a shower every morning. I can’t imagine going out without one. I also need to wash my hair daily (the injustice at 47 although perhaps the lively oil glands will keep me young) and I straighten it daily, too. And I put make up on, although often I’ll do eyeshadow in the ladies at work before I walk in.

I have to be out of the house at 7.30 am to catch a train. I hate rushing around in the morning too. I prefer to get up a bit earlier, less stress, although it gets irritating when I’m caught between a husband who wants me to get up later and a boss who wants me to get up earlier rather than (I quote) ‘rocking up at 8.20’. Rocking up!!!

BigGlasses · 29/07/2019 11:02

7.20, get up and imediately in the shower, wash hair
7.30 out of shower, towel dry hair and get dressed
7.35 wake kids up and get them downstairs
7.35-8.00 kids have breakfast, I make my cup of tea and take occasional slurps whilst feeding pets, making kids packed luches and unloading dishwasher
8.00 everyone back upstairs, kids get themselves dressed whilst I dry my hair and read internet, kids brush their teeth and I put on tiny bit of make up and brush teeth.
8.20 back downstairs, pack kids bags, kids get their shoes and jackets and stuff ready
8.30 leave house

Damntheman · 29/07/2019 12:32

My alarm goes off at 6.45am, I get up, wake my youngest, physically drag my oldest out of bed, yell at them until they finally get dressed, feed them breakfast and we are out of the house by 7.30 so I can be at work for 8am.

If I don't have to take the kids to school/kindy first then my alarm goes off at 7.30 and I'm out of the house by 7.40 it's BLISS! I shower in the evenings and prefer to eat breakfast at 9am in the break room so there's not a lot to actually do in the morning if I'm not herding kids.

ScatteredMama82 · 29/07/2019 12:35

I get up at 7, wake the kids, quick shower, get dressed. Kids get up and dress themselves. We leave at 7.30. I pack lunches etc the night before. I have breakfast when I get to work, they have breakfast at the childminder's. I rarely do my hair, just put it up in a messy bun. I do my make-up in the car park at work before I go in! The traffic builds up really quickly near my work so leaving 5 minutes earlier saves me 15 minutes waiting in a traffic jam so I use those 15 minutes to do my make up and grab a cuppa before going to my desk.

Jsmith99 · 29/07/2019 12:56

I am not a morning person at all so I do as much as possible the night before then set my alarm for the latest time I can possibly get away with, generally 0745 or 0800.

I stagger out of bed into the shower, then have tea & cereal while getting dressed. I’m very low maintenance on work days so no faffing about with hair or makeup. Out of the house by 0830.

DinoGreen · 29/07/2019 13:33

One 3 year old DS.

DS wakes us up somewhere between 5 and 6.30am. If it’s at the earlier end of that, he comes in our bed and we all stare blearily at iPads until a more sensible hour.
6.30 - actual alarm goes off
6.35-6.55ish - get out of bed, quick wash (I shower and wash my hair I’m the evenings), brush teeth, do hair and make up, get dressed.
6.55 - get DS dressed and brush his teeth
7.00 - downstairs, make breakfast for DS and myself
7.30 - leave the house.
