Packing cubes

Are they worth getting? Being very grown up and buying suitcases this week - usually everything for into a kit bag when we travel in my van to Europe. This year, we're flying so suitcases are a must.

My friends swear by packing cubes - are they worth it? Best place to buy?

I love packing cubes! I'm obsessed! I have two types, the cheapish IKEA ones and the extra zip compression sort (my daughter bought me those for Christmas)

They fit into my suitcase/backpack very neatly, and there are still odds and ends that don't go in them (not everything needs to, obviously), that fill up any spaces.

I backpack a lot, so it works great when I'm only spending a few days in any one place. I can just undo my side opening backpack, take out the cubes I need, then when it's time to pack up again, it takes two minutes. Before packing cubes, finding anything in a backpack, and packing it again after a two night stay, was painful!

It also makes packing light (as in taking only cabin baggage for a week's stay) much easier. Even the cheap ones compress clothes down a little, so things don't take up so much room. The compression ones almost halve the space.

It’s definitely helped me with packing. We have two sets, the best were from Lidl! Even has a shoe and hair dyer/straighteners cubes. I find if I roll clothes into them they stack quite neatly and I get it in in a more compact way.

Love them. We all have our own colours. We also pack very minimally and wash clothes once a week when we are away. We take 8 kgs for each person in carry on bag only, for 4 weeks away, using cubes. So easy and convenient!

I'm a very recent convert to them, even though I thought I was a packing expert. I went backpacking in Morocco this summer and they certainly made the difference to my organization and weight distribution ( comfortable and no weight hanging down my rucksack). I've also used them since with cabin luggage and found them fantastic. I used Amazon with mine.

I have tons of the mountain equipment black ones from Amazon. Each child gets a cube dh an 1 have 2. For a long hol. I like that I can pack The Cubes stacked up in the corner and that's the clothes done and then the case can be organised however I see fit and it's easy enough to check if I've left something or I want something back out of it. Love them.

Just coming on to say that although I dismissed these earlier on in the thread I succumbed and bought the cheapest set I could find to see what the fuss was about. I'm hooked! How did I live without them! Used them on a two week cruise. Kept stuff in the bags all holiday so knew where everything was. Shoes, underwear, hair stuff, jewellery, medical and tat. When we came to pack at the end of the holiday I just zipped the bags up and put them in the case. So simple. Who knew? Thanks op for introducing me to these!
