I'm new to shopping at Aldi, please tell me your favourite items to add to my shopping list! I've already discovered the gin! 😊

OP posts:

Vegan sausage rolls. Vegan chicken burgers. Bistro salad. Sea salt dark chocolate. Onion bhajis. Most of the fruit and veg is very good.

0blio · 24/07/2019 08:23

Norpak spreadable butter, absolutely identical ingredients to the similarly named branded one but at least £1 cheaper and on offer just now.
Yes to the goats cheese pearls and fresh pizzas.
I've recently bought their teabags in the gold box and they're good too.
I love Aldi ❤

EdithSitwell · 24/07/2019 08:40

Cheese topped rolls.
Greek yoghurt with honey.
Peppered salami.
Aldi used to do a plain chocolate bar with marzipan inside. It was nicer than anything from a posh chocolatier. Think it 's been discontinued now.

Gottoloveabagel · 24/07/2019 08:43

Their bake your own sourdough bread.
Their malted sliced loaf is amazing.
Jars of artichokes, peppers and sun dried tomatoes are far cheaper than in supermarkets.

Olives with feta cheese are nice too

imnewherethisisme · 24/07/2019 08:52

Norpak butter
Coconut ice lollies
24 pack of loo roll (brown pack)
Gluten free Cumberland sausages
Mature cheddar cheese
Milk chocolate oaties biscuits
Tomato & basil soup
Compostable food bin liners

These are my favourites off the top of my head from our last shop Smile

GMtoBe · 24/07/2019 08:54

Frozen vegan sausage rolls, their own versions of the aussie shampoo and conditioner, Teddy faces (DD loves them) their decaf filter coffee, orange mousse chocolate, brie, organic prosecco, red pesto, olive oil and of course whatever takes your fancy in the middle aisle!

notso · 24/07/2019 08:59

Buy
Most of the cheeses,
moser wroth chocolate,
sea salt crackers,
chocolate brownie bombs- highly addictive tonic water,
toiletries are pretty good,
Ingredients like flour, sugar, etc
their version of hula hoops
Greek yoghurt

Avoid
meat,
fruit and veg if you want it to last and if you want to eat all the pack,
processed stuff
flavoured yoghurts
spreadable butter
most of the packaged stuff if you have allergies to nuts or peanuts

Fleabag123 · 24/07/2019 09:01

Agree with loads of these

The Aussie dupe shampoo is brilliant for the price.
Compostable liners are sturdy and a good price
Love the Jo Malone dupe candles, obviously not as good as the real thing but a nice treat for £4
Cheeses are great, as are cured meats
My friend raves about the olive oil, I think she said it’s Spanish

HesTheFastestKidAlive · 24/07/2019 09:10

@notso we disagree in this house - my DH would live on their thick and creamy yoghurts if he could!

Cold pressed rapeseed oil
Chocolate
Nappies
We've always had nice 'deli' bits from Aldi- ham/ quiche/ cooked meats and the like
Haven't had any bad fruit or veg yet

Would generally avoid the multipack crisps

AntHilda · 24/07/2019 09:10

Nappies and wipes
Everything from the bakery section is delicious
The birthday cake is better than the Asda ones
The Baywood wines are lovely
Theres a toffee yoghurt/mousse type thing in the fridges which is gorgeous
The split pot yoghurts
The handsoaps

AntHilda · 24/07/2019 09:21

Whoops I have given you tips on what to buy from lidl. For aldi I'd go for:
The chocolate caramel squares (4 in a pack, as good as Thorntons)
The nappies and wipes
Laura face wash is fantastic and takes my expensive mascara off without stinging my eyes.
Their coleslaw
The split pot yoghurts
The family size sticky toffee pudding
The crisps are as good as walkers if not better
Sweet chilli dipping sauce
Shortbread biscuits are best I've tasted ever!
Like others have said the twix/Mars rip offs are just as good as the real deal
The chocolate waffles
The fabric conditioner
The chicken and bacon pasta bowls are lovely
The lemonade is good
The cat food/cat litter is spot on

AntHilda · 24/07/2019 09:22

*lacura face wash

Daffodil2018 · 24/07/2019 09:27

The organic prosecco is delicious. I don't normally like prosecco but it's lovely and dry.

UrbanMage · 24/07/2019 09:32

Their salmon is fab.
We love the yogurt (especially the thick Greek one)
The biscuits and chocolate is great as are the frozen lollies/ low fat ice cream.

We only shop there now.

coconuttelegraph · 24/07/2019 09:32

I'd suggest actually trying the food, dont expect to like something just because a stranger on the internet does or vice versa, does everyone in your house like the same things?

There are things mentioned already that I don't like, people have different tastes.

doodleygirl · 24/07/2019 09:33

Like any supermarket some stuff is good, other not so good.

I have never had an issue with the fruit and veg but I buy every three/four days rather than once a week as we go through so much. The British cherries are particularly gorgeous at the moment.

Jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 24/07/2019 09:49

I multi-shop, these are the bits I get from Aldi ...

Not from concentrate orange juice

Organic eggs (mixed weights so cheaper but gorgeous)

Blackberries and raspberries

Chestnut mushrooms (usually cheaper)

5% lean steak mince 1kg

Filtered milk

Cheese - roquefort and extra mature cheddar

Their Torchon ham

Luxury soups - my local seems to have stopped stocking these though, v disappointed.

Luxury toilet rolls (fine for the kid's bathroom Blush)

Kitchen roll

Mini marshmallows (for dd's hot chocolate)

These are for the dog, infact I've switched from tesco mixed veg ...
Sardines in oil
Frozen veg (mixed and farmhouse)

Don't buy the in cistern toilet blocks, useless!!! Used to be v good but lately only last a day or two.

BrightNewLife · 24/07/2019 10:36

Love Aldi!

I also say yes to:

Vegan sausage rolls
Frozen cauliflower cheese (winter only I think)
Gourmet burgers (better than M&S)
Spinach and feta triangles (deli)
Fresh PIZZAS
Twix rip-offs
Luxurious Mac 'n cheese w pancetta (winter only? incredible)
goats cheese pearls
Norpak butter
Chocolate Profiteroles (dessert)
Chorizo is fab, too
Fresh 'artisanal' cloudy lemonade - not too sweet

Enjoy!

Newcatmum · 24/07/2019 10:45

Luxurious Mac 'n cheese w pancetta (winter only? incredible)

Nope I saw this on Monday. They no longer sell their macaroni with ham hough though Sad

Punxsutawney · 24/07/2019 11:41

Got some salted caramel frozen Greek yoghurt yesterday. Not a huge amount of salted caramel in it but tasted really nice. Especially in the hot weather.

PopWentTheWeasel · 24/07/2019 11:44

The fat free hazelnut greek yoghurt. Tastes like the filling from bueno bars.

The full fat plain greek yoghurt
Granola
Sea salt butter

The purple mouthwash. Better and cheaper than listerine.

Baby wipes, nappies and formula. Loads cheaper than the big brands but, legally, has to include the same essentially components, vitamins etc.

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 24/07/2019 11:52

Most pizzas
Coconut milk
Almond milk
Nuts
Pasta
Olive oil
Specially selected pitta
Chocolate tear and share brioche
Choceur and moser Roth chocolate
Crisps
Chicken thigh fillets
Lightly smoked salmon fillets
Hot smoked salmon
Mackerel
Frozen raw prawns
Extra mature cheddar
Halloumi
Stilton
Parmesan
Soft cheese
Yoghurts (kids and adult)
Orange juice
Coconut water
Eggs
4 ply toilet roll in purple pack
Blue/white kitchen roll
Nappies are brill
Baby wipes the same
Australian Riesling
£6.29 Malbec is great
10 fish finger (not omega 3)
Chutneys
Jars of olives
Lollies / ice cream
They do a kids pack of pink lady apples
Rocket always lasts ok as does most salad stuff

Agree that some fruit/veg is a miss as doesn't last as long as it should. We didn't like the halloumi fries and the cereal hasn't gone down well here. We also don't like their ketchup or mayo but there aren't many other things I can think of that I don't like.

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 24/07/2019 11:55

How could I forget their sesame brioche buns! We get through far more than we should here Blush
Ripe avocado twin packs are usually good and good value.

Pinktinker · 24/07/2019 11:57

Gin&Tonic ice lollies
Nutoka (their version of Nutella) is nice
Belgian buns
Their white bloomer is gooood
Norpak is exactly the same as lurpak, fraction of the price

Foslady · 24/07/2019 11:58

Just discovered the lemon meringue ice cream - lovely!
