I have lost all capacity for a decent night's sleep & I fucking hate it.

Hour after hour tossing & turning with not a hint of sleep. My shin bones throb. My calf muscles beg for deep tissue massage, the muscle around my hip joints screams with discomfort. (hips are fine). My head won't shut up. Then I have a hot flush, which isn't too bad but still necessitates throwing off the covers. Two minutes later I'm too cool & need the covers back.,, Hmm I am SO sick and tired of this. If I get 4hrs sleep I consider myself lucky. Very often I just toss & turn like this all night with no relief. And if I try to have a cat nap in the daytime, I find my head hits the pillow & I jerk awake 2mins later! I never used to be like this.. PISSED OFF. Anyone else?

& yes I take magnesium

I'm like this. Have just given in and got up. I think it's work stress for me. I'm now off for 6 weeks and am interested to see if my sleep will improve. It normally does after a week or so.

LividLaughLove · 20/07/2019 05:06

Another teacher awake by default at 4am, even in the holidays, signing in.

Northernsoullover · 20/07/2019 05:17

I gave up alcohol as I was told it would help with my insomnia (and for other reasons). Here I am. At least I don't feel hungover. There is a bright side Hmm

Another one here... 8 weeks pregnant and restless legs back with a vengeance. 3hrs tonight and counting down the time til I can get in the shower and walk over the local market.

Patchworksack · 20/07/2019 05:24

And me.

Alsohuman · 20/07/2019 05:26

I’ve been up since 4. A decent night’s sleep is the holy grail.

YeOldeTrout · 20/07/2019 05:30

Up since 4am here. Terminal insomnia. There's a big job I need to do today, but will try to sleep again instead...

yearinyearout · 20/07/2019 05:31

Same...although one day last week I stayed asleep until 6.30am and was ecstatic about "my big lie in". Generally I go to bed 10.30, read for a bit, think I'm nodding off, then suddenly I'm wide awake until about 1.30. Up again between 4-5am. Think mine is due to perimenopaus as having erratic periods/aches and pains/generally raging.

Chottie · 20/07/2019 05:31

I have found my people!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 20/07/2019 05:35

I've been up since 3am, woken up by the rain and worrying about work. I've painted my nails!

Time to get ready for work soon which will almost be a relief. At least when I go it I will know if I have anything to worry about.

Insomnia is crap.

MrsIronfoundersson · 20/07/2019 05:37

Morning all! I fall asleep the minute my head hits the pillow but am then awake from 3 ish, only to snooze again from 5.30 or 6 so I can't get up when I need to. Yes to the covers on and off. Am now on school hols so will see if sleep improves.

cheeseislife8 · 20/07/2019 05:37

Fellow insomniac here. Fell asleep a little after 4 and here I am awake again. Grr!

Silversky70 · 20/07/2019 05:46

Do you need hrt, op?

PenguinsRabbits · 20/07/2019 05:50

I have just started this a month ago and think its hot flushes - keep waking up every hour hot and shaky and sometimes heart racing. Get it in day too. Its super annoying.

UncomfortableSilence · 20/07/2019 05:51

Same here, utterly sick of it and sick of feeling exhausted. I fall asleep with ease every night often on the sofa as I'm so so tired, drag myself to bed and sleep till about 1am, then it's in and out of sleep till around 4am when that's it for the day.

OzziePopPop · 20/07/2019 05:59

Melatonin? Helps me fall asleep and stay there. Apparently it’s common for autistic people (me) to be insomniac. I buy it from a large online chemist. It’s not expensive, I pay around £8 for 90 5 mg gummies (I don’t like tablets).

Not sure of course if it’s suitable for you, just something that works for me 😃

Asta19 · 20/07/2019 06:02

I am having literally the worst period of my life. I feel like I’m in labour and the pain woke me at 3am. Tried hot water bottle, actually made it hurt more. No damn painkillers in the house. Eventually at 5am I walked to the 24 hour shop down the road, clutching my stomach with every step, only to find it’s closed for refurbishment Angry Now I need to wait it out till 7am for the Tesco’s to open. I’m in peri menopause waiting for the actual flipping menopause! I don’t know how many more of these periods I can take.

higherforce · 20/07/2019 06:05

Ozzie

Have you a link to the online chemist?

Same here - don't feel like I'm firing on all cylinders during the day as am so tired

cantfindname · 20/07/2019 06:18

Insomnia is the pits. I have given up fighting it now I am retired. I get up when I wake up, usually 3:30 - 4am, come down and have a cuppa and check my computer and then cycle off to feed my horses around 5am ( utter bliss of no traffic!) Get back just after 6am for more tea and breakfast around 7 or 8am. Then, I confess, I go back to bed for a couple of hours. This routine seems to suit me better than tossing, turning and sweating for hours and I am actually less tired for it x

Shouldbedoing · 20/07/2019 06:26

Yup, I've been awake since 4.40 too, but I'm stuck in a Travelodge with 2 kids so nowhere to go. Thank God for Mumsnet. I finally brewed up at 6 a might sleep at my usual alarm time! I drove 5 hours last night & kids only got to bed at midnight so they should wake late. I also blame peri menopause.

Shouldbedoing · 20/07/2019 06:28

@Asta19 I found zinc and selenium/3 brazil nuts a day really helped stop my period pain.

LittleLongDog · 20/07/2019 06:32

@Asta19 have you tried a cold pack instead of a hot water bottle? Or having a bath?

You have my sympathies!

PostNotInHaste · 20/07/2019 06:33

Another in the early waking club. Am trying g my best to accept it and try to enjoy the quiet on the early morning then I get get less stressed but I hate it.

TheBigBallOfOil · 20/07/2019 06:40

Oh hell you poor thing. Do you think you might need a new mattress? You mention achy muscles and I wonder if that might help. I need one and was researching online, apparently there’s these new special foam ones with cool layers which sound amazing.
I find popping a podcast on at low volume helps. Paradoxically the more interested I am in the subject the better for making me go to sleep. I think because if I’m genuinely diverted it distracts me from the things worrying me and calms my brain!

Snog · 20/07/2019 06:54

HRT helped my sleep a lot
