I have lost all capacity for a decent night's sleep & I fucking hate it.

Hour after hour tossing & turning with not a hint of sleep. My shin bones throb. My calf muscles beg for deep tissue massage, the muscle around my hip joints screams with discomfort. (hips are fine). My head won't shut up. Then I have a hot flush, which isn't too bad but still necessitates throwing off the covers. Two minutes later I'm too cool & need the covers back.,, Hmm I am SO sick and tired of this. If I get 4hrs sleep I consider myself lucky. Very often I just toss & turn like this all night with no relief. And if I try to have a cat nap in the daytime, I find my head hits the pillow & I jerk awake 2mins later! I never used to be like this.. PISSED OFF. Anyone else?

& yes I take magnesium

Getting a filter on my glasses has helped me ... less blue light going into my eyes after 9pm means I now fall asleep about 11:30pm until about 6am

666onmyhead · 20/07/2019 06:57

( I take contacts out at 9pm and swap to glasses )

I feel your pain. I’ve invested in a wool duvet and it’s helped with temperature regulation, but I still have nights where I wake up at 3am and can’t switch my head off.

I despair about my sleep pattern. I am wide awake at night and hardly sleep, then I'm exhausted by 9am and again about 3pm to the extent that I wouldn't attempt to drive a car. It's all I can do to force myself not to get a couple of naps during th day.

absofuckinglutley · 20/07/2019 07:36

Also struggling with sleep these days despite been constantly tired. Today was my lie-in day. Ear plugs in, eye mask on. Woke at regular periods through night and woke up thinking praying it was between 8-9amish. Looked at time, 6.13.

I don't even get up at that time when I'm at work!!
Had a cuppa and laid on settee and hoping I can get back in bed for a couple of hours in a bit.

stucknoue · 20/07/2019 07:41

I've been like that for 3 years given up worrying about it

Soola · 20/07/2019 07:55

If it’s menopause related I took Menopace and feeling hot in the night/flushes stopped immediately.

Horse chestnut extract stopped my having restless legs.

Oh god, I so agree. DS woke every sleep cycle from birth to 2 y 3 months. Since he learnt to sleep 5 months ago, I think i have achieved a solid 4 hours' sleep once. Mostly I sleep for 10 minutes and jerk awake, heart racing... then spend hours awake... then another 10 minutes.

Does regular proper exercise make a difference to anyone? I walk a lot, carrying 17kg DS in a backpack, so I am often physically exhausted - but I only very rarely manage a week where I go running twice. I think I need at least 30 mins running every other day to actually sleep - which isn't likely to happen any time soon with DS...

TroysMammy · 20/07/2019 09:33

I have restless legs, kicking the duvet on and off all night. I then get up for a pee. I don't know if it 's the need to pee that also wakes me or thinking I'm awake now may as well have a pee.

Bumblenut · 20/07/2019 09:42

I find that putting a podcast on helps if your mind is worrying or working overtime.

SeaViewBliss · 20/07/2019 09:43

Me too but my trouble is falling asleep. Once I’m asleep I am sound asleep and don’t wake up. But I can still be wide awake at 3 or 4am.

I did some CBT a few years ago and it did help but those techniques have stopped working.

I slept from 3-5 on the sofa last night then went back to bed at 6 and slept until 9. I now feel like shit and know I will be dog tired by about 3 this afternoon.

I can’t take HRT and I don’t know where to start with supplements.

I feel all of your pain Sad

Celeriacacaca · 20/07/2019 10:07

I have a pure cotton flat sheet under the duvet so I can flick the duvet off and still have the sheet over me to cool down but be warm enough to get to sleep. It's really helped.

Celeriacacaca · 20/07/2019 10:08

To add, DH and I have separate duvets - singles. Again, so much better as I can have a lighter one.

isitwhatitis · 20/07/2019 10:30

I do that with the flat sheet as well. It's good but doesn't help me sleep. It's half ten now and I just want to go back to bed.

Threadbaretoe · 20/07/2019 10:55

I could have written your post a few months ago.
I can't take HRT as I have had breast cancer. Desperate times called for desperate measures and I gave up alcohol (drank about 1 bottle of wine a week) and have lost 2 stone.
I am sleeping much, much better and the aches and pains have gone.

Soola · 20/07/2019 11:01

@TroysMammy give horse chestnut extract a go. They stopped my restless legs.
