Who else is ‘loved’ by mosquitoes and other biting flies?

Because they fecking LOVE me.

Out for a lovely walk in the country today and one landed on my hand. I have prominent veins and he latched on for a good long drink. I’m now sorting a huge bruised hand. Sad

Don’t know if it comes through in a photo but it’s SORE!!

Me, I come up in great lumps. Only thing that works for me now is Incognito spray

BertieDrapper · 18/07/2019 17:32

Yep! They love me but I'm allergic to them. Every bite comes up the size of a football.

On honeymoon I was beaten 14 times on one leg... that was fun! Not!

managedmis · 18/07/2019 17:33

Me too

Bloody hate then ( and summer because of it!)

Newearringsplease · 18/07/2019 17:34

I must be sweet meat because they love me, I've 2 huge ones on my leg now

QueenOfIce · 18/07/2019 17:34

Avon skin so soft dry oil and vitamin B1 seems to keep the bastards away from eating me. I once had over 70 bites on my foot, was agony!

FindaPenny · 18/07/2019 17:38

I'm getting constantly bitten... Probably about 30 times since June. They come up in massive welts and have occasionally swollen up quite badly.

MIdgebabe · 18/07/2019 17:39

The hint is in the name

DogbertDogglesworth · 18/07/2019 18:44

I found that taking a 1 a day antihistamines for a month prior to going away, not only helped to prevent being bitten, but stopped the swelling and itching if I was.
You could try that next time you go away? Aldi ones are very good. 😊

angemorange · 18/07/2019 20:18

I'm a snack magnet for mozzies on holiday - I use some kids (no DEET) mozzie spray from Boots/Tesco or Sainsbury's. Brand doesn't really matter but it really helps if I spray it before going outside on hols especially round my ankles/arms.
Antihistamines help as well - if any bite gets infected get it seen asap.

dreichhighlands · 18/07/2019 20:21

Like a pp I now take antihistamines before I travel, I take them for a week and then spray a lot with deet.
Dd is the same.

eurochick · 18/07/2019 20:22

Me. My in-laws call me "bait" when I stay at their place in France. I always get munched and they leave everyone else alone. 😡

Parttimewasteoftime · 18/07/2019 20:27

Yep they love me got eaten alive in Turkey left my DH alone not one bite 😡

eatthepineapple · 18/07/2019 20:30

Me! Just got back from 2 nights camping in east anglia and been bitten to shreds! Out of interest, if you are prone to bites what blood type are you? I'm O- and have heard the mozzies love us!

Peanutbuttericecream · 18/07/2019 20:37

The only thing that works for me is DEET. I hate it but needs must. If I do get bitten, then a steroid cream helps a bit but the bites swell and itch like stink.

DH was bitten about 50 times in Turkey last year. He itched a bit but if that had been me I would have been in hospital.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 18/07/2019 20:38

Mozzies love me, and we have them where i live. They lurk in the lawn and wait for me.

DH is a horsefly magnet. He got chased down the beach by one a couple of years ago. And one got in his t-shirt last week and bit him 8 times!

jenthelibrarian · 18/07/2019 20:39

This is quite interesting reading

www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2018/06/30/623865454/a-guide-to-mosquito-repellents-from-deet-to-gin-and-tonic?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=npr&utm_term=nprnews&utm_content=20180630

After trying everything I reckon the best repellent is the dreaded Deet. I buy the cream rather than spraying it about and inhaling it, and shower after I've used it.

I honestly don't know why anyone rates that Avon stuff, it had no effect for me and it smells vile, like cheap furniture polish.
Taking vitamin E and eating loads of Marmite didn't seem to make a difference and a I have a photo of a massive bite right next to one of those repellent wrist bands.
*sigh

AugustRose · 18/07/2019 20:51

Me and DS2 are very attractive to biting insects, although despite the humidity we actually haven't been bitten yet this summer Confused. DS gets very itchy and I normally get huge red lumps that last for months.

Badabingbadabum · 18/07/2019 20:54

Dh. I don't think I even get bitten. I had barely seen a mosquito before I lived with him. They hurl themselves at the windows trying to get in when he is home! He also reacts badly to the bites.

Lellochip · 18/07/2019 20:54

I think the blood group thing is right. Sister is O and got eaten alive when we were on holiday. I'm A+, and I'm not sure I've actually ever been bitten by a mozzie?

(Fleas however, love me 🤨)

Badabingbadabum · 18/07/2019 20:59

Although I am O neg, bait-dh is A positive I think. Something positive anyway.

igotdemons · 18/07/2019 21:04

I’m A+ and they love me! Last summer overnight I was bitten by something 5 times on the same foot 😡 Itched like hell for days! DH on the other hand didn’t get bitten once... 😤

Scratchyfluffface · 18/07/2019 21:05

Me! I've tried EVERYTHING, vit b, skin so soft, deet, non deet, bands, patches, sprays, roll ons, plug ins....my most successful is mossie milk (doesn't stop but they are less but I have to smother myself in it) apparently they don't like red wine-that is my next thing to try!!

No idea why they love me so much, DH and I can be in the same room all night, he gets one or two and I get covered.....

Scratchyfluffface · 18/07/2019 21:07

Oohhh interesting about blood type - I have no idea what I am but might find out

Empra123 · 18/07/2019 21:10

Yes I'm clearly very tasty. I'm also allergic to the little buggers so that's an interesting mix. My right leg is still swollen after they got me last weekend. A+ blood group.

RushianDisney · 18/07/2019 21:12

I am lucky in that DP and DD are the ones the bugs want, I have been largely ignored since living with them. I used to get bitten quite a lot, but clearly there is better blood available in the immediate vicinity.
