Am I paying a ridiculous amount for electricity?

I pay £54 a month. Just on electricity.

I live in a 2 bed flat on my own. I’m also out most of the time.

Sounds like a bargain to me!

Mokepon · 14/07/2019 19:55

I pay £90 for gas&electric for a 2 bed semi.
2 adults/2 kids.
So it seems a wee bit high.

dementedpixie · 14/07/2019 19:56

Do you have gas too?

I pay £100a month for gas and electric for a family of 4in a 3 bed semi. So yours doesn’t sound that high really. Do you pay gas as well?

MouthFullofGum · 14/07/2019 19:58

A bargain? Really?

The gas is paid for on a top up card.

I live the East Midlands if that makes a difference.

No that’s High, we pay £34 per month, it has just gone up £5 since having a smart meter installed, two of us, two bedroomed duplex.

Zebedee88 · 14/07/2019 20:01

Does seem a little high. My bill is £60 for gas and electric, 1 person in a 3 bed. In Derbyshire if that helps.

Rayna37 · 14/07/2019 20:01

Well there's two things you can check: are you on an expensive tariff or is your usage in kWh high for a two bed/one person property.

CitadelsofScience · 14/07/2019 20:05

No that's high.

dementedpixie · 14/07/2019 20:08

Depends on tariff or how much you are using. Do you use a tumble drier?

Pizzaaddict · 14/07/2019 20:08

I was paying £90 a month for one adult and two kids in a two bed flat so it sounds good to me

MrsGrindah · 14/07/2019 20:08

£105 here ..electric only 2 bed flat, two of us .

TheCanyon · 14/07/2019 20:09

Thats no way a bargain for a person who lives alone. We pay a similar amount, there's 6 of us here and I'm at home the majority of the time with the washing machine and dryer on constantly.

NoBaggyPants · 14/07/2019 20:09

Have you checked your on the best deal?

whereveryouwillgo · 14/07/2019 20:10

I also live alone in a 2 bed flat. I work standard office hours Mon-Fri, but I'm home most of the time outwith this. My electricity is about £25 per month on average, so yes yours seems expensive to me. I'm paying less than that for gas & electicity together right now, and only about £65-70 for both in winter.

For info I'm in Scotland, and with Bulb.

CitadelsofScience · 14/07/2019 20:11

TheCanyon same here. Four of us, I'm home all day and I do use the tumble dryer.

RandomMess · 14/07/2019 20:21

Yes it seems high...

Wonder if a neighbour has hacked into your supply? Have you tried turning everything off and seeing if the meter still moves...

Livebythecoast · 14/07/2019 20:25

I'm in the south east. 3 bedded house. 2 adults, 1 teenager permanently playing music and plugged up to the mains with phone.
Pay £82 per month for gas and electricity. No tumble drier.
I turn the mains cooker off unless I'm cooking

MouthFullofGum · 14/07/2019 20:28

Not tumble dryer . .. I use the washing machine 2 times a week.

Only have one light on in the room I’m in.

I’m out all day at work.

Livebythecoast · 14/07/2019 20:29

*dryer

dementedpixie · 14/07/2019 20:30

What sort of tariff are you on? Do you give regular meter readings?

dementedpixie · 14/07/2019 20:31

Have you done a price comparison?

beachcomber70 · 14/07/2019 20:31

I'm in a 3 bed bungalow, no gas just electricity. I live alone and am home most of every day. I pay £20 a month. So your bill is very high.

InsertFunnyUsername · 14/07/2019 20:40

Your bill is high, Mine is £45 a month.

Me and DD are the only ones home during the day (even then were out every day at some point) until 6 when DP and DS come home, then its all the lights and tv on in the house 🙄

wheelywheelynice · 14/07/2019 20:40

That's really high. I'm home all day, every day and I pay half that.
I'm with Bulb and they are the cheapest. Switching is really simple.
