Why are all the tweenagers wearing black lyrca gym shorts and Reeboks?

In the style of 80s aerobics instructions?

And also, interestingly, the same ensemble my mother bought me for S3 PE, making me cry for 3 days?

They are not wearing that where I live

RubbingHimSourly · 14/07/2019 15:48

Same here op. They're all wearing gym kit......a few years ago it was crowds of girls with massive, bird's nest hair and green parkas.........now they're all in identikit gym sweats. It's bizarre 😂😂😂

hopefullyhelpfully · 14/07/2019 15:53

This explains why DD 13 went out today in her school running shorts (tight Lycra) and a big T-shirt. I just thought she'd got confused.... It's a THING then?

Same where I am. Cycling shorts and gym tee's. it's a thing

Witchofzog · 14/07/2019 15:56

Er it's just fashion innit? Surely some of you remember the stuff we wore in the name of fashion. Shell suits, global hypercolour t shirts that highlighted your sweaty patches and wallabies are some of the worst things I wore as a tween.

Rubyjune · 14/07/2019 15:56

Kim Kardashian is the reason! She made cycle shorts popular unfortunately

Bezalelle · 14/07/2019 15:57

I think the correct terminology is "It's a mood".

< preens at being down with the kids .

yellowalstroemeria · 14/07/2019 15:58

It's a thing. It's hilarious. They just need a bum bag to top it off.

Fabletics outfits here, although one had thick black tights, black Lycra shorts, major Doc Martens boots. I’ve seen the Fabletics ensemble at the yard. Most curious.

BenWillbondsPants · 14/07/2019 16:01

It's a thing. I felt like I was in 1991 when I was in town the other day. Big tee and bum bags all the way too. Love it. Grin

Her0utdoors · 14/07/2019 16:02

Is it sports day at their school?

Fatted · 14/07/2019 16:03

It's the fashion.

Ellesse leggings and Fila trainers like when I were a wee lassy.

Looks shit though.

DS1 is v proud of his Bershka bum bag and I have to agree it's very practical Grin

Ilikewinter · 14/07/2019 16:09

Lol I found myself thinking this the other day, had half a dozen youngsters shopping throughout the day all wearing cycling shorts, didnt think anything of it at first but after number 6 thought it was a bit strange! I asked one of my younger colleagues (well shes 21) and she told me it was fashion and shes just bought some for her Ibiza holiday....I told her I thought id gone back in time to the 90s.....good times 😂

stucknoue · 14/07/2019 16:22

Really ? Not seen it here but bum bags are back in for adults it seems

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/07/2019 16:38

I went to JD sports last week looking for some running shorts that a) had pockets and b) would contain my butt cheeks sufficiently whilst doing said running. The girl in the shop sort of laughed and said that 'these are fashion shorts not real sport kit' and directed me to sports direct. 'These' were big, well known sports brands like Nike and Adidas.

SoupDragon · 14/07/2019 16:40

I wore that in the early 90's 😂

Comefromaway · 14/07/2019 16:41

Dd wears black Lycra leggings or shorts and Nike shoes but she trains every day.

Ohwhataballsup · 14/07/2019 16:42

Are they cycling shorts? If so, Vogue were on it.

Morgan12 · 14/07/2019 16:46

Kanye West telling Kim Kardashian to wear his shit clothes. Now everyone is. I'm so glad I'm 30.

Sassy306 · 14/07/2019 16:47

I thought the exact same last night. Was working the bar at a private 21st party and nearly all the girls had lycra shorts, matching lycra tops or wee tshirts and reebok type trainers with little addidas shoulder bags so must be the in thing these days lol!

DogHasEatenTheSqueaker · 14/07/2019 17:01

Was shopping with DSD14 today so she could spend birthday money. As DH and I stood uselessly in new look, topshop, H&M and Primark, playing our parts as coathangers and bag holders, we had a lengthy chat about how useful a bumbag would be for handsfree shopping/dog walking/sainsbury-ing, all whilst neatly hiding my lower belly PMT squishiness. So many available, was quite tempted.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 14/07/2019 17:02

I saw a girl (late teens I'd say) at Asda this morning who could have stepped out of a Gwen Stefani video.

I say, sat in a slightly cropped top and dungarees. Blush in my defence they are super comfortable and the shirt is too short to wear with trousers. And they are covered in paint too, firmly a loafing/DIY outfit.

Macca84 · 14/07/2019 17:05

Do not mock the bum bag Grin I wore one to a concert recently for the first time in a few decades... most practical thing I've worn in ages, and I'm a practical dresser!

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 14/07/2019 17:05

Where I am. It’s tight trousers that are too short and white socks. Takes me right back
