BBC high earners - Vanessa Feltz?🤔

Just reading about the highest BBC earners this year and while I think it’s about time some women made the top 20, am I the only one surprised to see Vanessa Feltz in there?

Radio 2 gets lots of listeners I agree. But does her show?

I agree Galloping. Nothing at all against Vanessa but I’m blowed if I can work out why she’s earning more than Fiona Bruce.

They should get rid of Jeremy Vine (lunchtime BBC 2) and replace with Vanessa.

I love Vanessa's early morning show for my commute.

Her BBC London show is excellent and I agree with the PP about her being erudite and knowledgeable, able to speak on any subject. She does lots of other stuff too and is a proper grafter.

I love Vanessa too. Good to see I'm not alone.

I didn’t know VF worked/has ever worked for the BBC.

I vaguely remember her from being on CBB.

I like her a lot and I’m glad she’s one of the high earners.

Only those presenters paid directly by the BBC are on the list; those paid through their own production company are not.

I didn’t like the way 3 women scrape into the top 10 earners and the news has been all about how overpaid they are, as opposed to the 7 men that earn more than them to talk about sodding football!

Jaffa, the overpaid and overrated men in the top ten are always in the top ten, so it didn’t make me go: “Eh?”

This is the first year that women have made it onto the list of top earners. I was just surprised that of all the women I see on the telly etc week in and week out, VF was in that top list.

Didn’t think she had a particularly high profile and thought her early morning Radio 2 show can’t be such a top earning gig, can it? Never knew about the radio London show - wouldn’t be of interest to me as I don’t live in London.

PuppyMonkey Every thought you had in your last post (21:59) I had too. I was surprised. I like Vanessa, I really do but I didn't think she did much for the BBC. I don't live in London either.

I like her a lot. It seems odd that when there’s are so many terrible men who earn more than Vanessa, she is getting criticised.

She puts a shift in. She has a very early morning show on Radio 2. Then a three hour talk show on BBC Radio London at 7am. Then hot foots it to This Morning studio to be an agony aunt. And is Vine's stand in. She gives vfm, unlike Steve Wright or Lineker.

Her image belies her intelligence. She sometimes gets a bit shrill but she is fiercely intelligent. I listen to her London show. Her command of the English language is awesome, I always learn a new word.

I suspect she is high maintenance in RL but she is a good broadcaster and I don't begrudge her one penny.

I think Vanessa is great and glad for once most of you all agree!

I like Vanessa Feltz. She's intelligent and hardworking.

I do wonder how the likes of Jason Mohammad becomes a higher earner than Emily Maitlis or Fiona Bruce. I know he does a few shows for the BBC, but he hardly dazzles with his talent or personality.

Another vote for Vanessa here - she is the most intelligent, articulate and interesting broadcaster on the radio imho. Love her BBC London show.

I'm more shocked that Steve Wright is the fifth highest earner - and had taken a pay cut! 5th! He only does that one dire radio show, and takes loads of leave. And agree that Jason Mohamed is a charisma-free zone, very undeserving of a top 10 place.

I'm glad Vanessa is early enough that I can sleep soundly through her gushing. I tend to turn off when she covers JV unless it is a particularly fascinating discussion. She gets over emotional and shouts over the contributors.

Zoe Ball has converted me to 6 Music until Ken Bruce time.

I absolutely love Vanessa, she has a razor sharp intellect - her command of the English language is awesome and she does not try and hide her intelligence and pretend to be a giggling moron so people like her. On her BBC London show she tackles quite hard hitting subjects and has never ever been intimidated or stumped by anything, she is funny and honest and adorable, a warrior woman she is worth every penny. We should all be a bit more Vanessa.

I loved VF on my early morning commutes. I no longer commute so early and wish she had a later show because I can't be arsed to get up early

It's a shame she can't take over from Jeremy Vine on channel 5 in the mornings. He had no control over Terry Christian talking over everybody last week, Vanessa wouldn't have stood for that shit!

I like her I was a guest on her Anglia TV chat show back in 1997

Shes articulate and intelligent. And a while back did a couple of phone ins on how housing associations treat tenants.

As I’ve said, this isn’t a Vanessa bashing thread, I do like her. I suppose what I take from this news is that being a presenter on the radio is a really lucrative gig. I always had it in mind that a TV presenter would be more highly valued to the Beeb.

Vanessa is FANTASTIC on BBC Radio London. I bloody love her. We’ve always listened to her and I swear that my children’s brilliant vocabulary (always highlighted at parents’ evening) is down to her. The Vanessa Effect, bit like the Mozart Effect

She’s likely a good negotiator/employs a good negotiator. And the people with a higher profile are paid via production companies.
