What would your turning 4 year old want?

Boring question, sorry. I have a turning 4 year old and people are asking what she'd like for her upcoming birthday.

She doesn't have any "needs", as she's a young cousin and gets a lot of handed down toys and clothes, so in that sense there is no gap to fill. So it's down to "wants".

If I ask her, she wants an octonauts magazine (which has been bought and wrapped), and "a toy jellyfish", which probably means a cuddly one because she loves all things "cute", but people keep giving her soft toys and we're somewhat overrun!

What do your 4 year olds like? She's pretty excited by anything, but I'm just drawing blanks trying to think of suggestions!

Thanks :)

Art and craft stuff. Stamp sets are good at this age. Dressing up outfits. Bike or scooter. Orchard toy games and puzzles. Mine loved cake monster and shopping list.

Dressing up? (Fireman, doctors coat, princess)
We normally say arts and crafts as at least it’s not more plastic and always handy to have for rainy days!

My 4 year old wants/ wanted when it was her birthday Paw Patrol toys, LOL dolls, My Little Pony. She was given a Sylvanian Family house and some furniture for it by my parents, which she has loved playing with and it has potential to get more sets etc for Christmas and future birthdays. She also likes art and crafts type things, board games (Orchard toys ones and junior Monopoly) but we already had those thanks to her older sister. Last week DDs, who are 4 and 8, told me that what they both really wanted was an Alexa. That seemed bizarre for a 4 year old.

SophyStantonLacy · 01/07/2019 17:51

Magnatiles if you don\t have them already.

Mac47 · 01/07/2019 17:52

For her 4th birthday, mine requested an umbrella of her own.

radgybadger · 01/07/2019 17:58

Bubble machine? All my daughter wanted for her 4th Christmas was a handbag Wink

Similar to others:

Dressing up stuff
Craft, colouring and stickers
Doctors kit
Lego
Board game? Orchard games or similar

Mine got a set of three cardboard suitcases (one inside the other) for her 4th birthday and she and her brother will play with those for hours. Packing them, unpacking them, going on holiday with them. I've just remembered DH spending a boring but quite amusing afternoon being airport security... as they came through over and over again being different people (with the same suitcases!)

Art supplies - paper, pens and stickers, preferably with some sparkle. Dressing up things, bike, scooter, books. What's her favourite thing she likes to do, particularly on her own?

Helix1244 · 01/07/2019 18:37

My 4yo dd got
Lego
Trolls
A david Walliams book

codenameduchess · 01/07/2019 18:38

I've had this problem and when I asked her what she wanted she said 'a smoothie and a big cereal spoon' (which is a big serving spoon she uses at grandmas house to get cereal out of the box).

She's obsessed with anything surprise, LOL dolls, peppa pig surprise box things and the like.

I got her an enchantimals house for Christmas so the dolls are a great present, they range from £5-20 so suit any budget.
She's also getting:
Paw patrol mighty pups figures
Astronaut barbie
Music box
Twisty petz set
Bo peep action figure

Haba games are great, animal upon animal is a hit with most kids! They're really sweet games but all teach a some sort of skill, and many encourage cooperation or logical thinking.

DrDentyst · 01/07/2019 18:39

Mine wants a cash register. I need ideas too because I have three family members who default to buying baby dolls if I don't tell them exactly what to buy her (money/vouchers /days out aren't adequate apparently Hmm) so now she has 12 of them!!

Snacktalk · 01/07/2019 19:12

These are amazing ideas!! Thank you so much! Plenty here to work with.

Weirdly I think her own umbrella would probably be the biggest hit...!

But will compile a list from here as suggestions for grandparents etc.

Thank you all so much!

inappropriateraspberry she is TERRIBLE at doing things on her own. So I shall be particularly listing ideas from this thread that might encourage independent play (so that my gift in turn is peace and quiet for a few minutes!)!

UnalliterativeGeorge · 01/07/2019 19:38

The biggest hits for mine recently were monster trucks, a counting book from Tiger (in fact he'd like pretty much anything from tiger), umbrella that he only wants to use when it's sunny, his own water bottle (because he'll need one for school) and some of those stilts that are effectively cans on string (also from Tiger!)

UnalliterativeGeorge · 01/07/2019 19:38

Oh and a space hopper

hidinginthenightgarden · 01/07/2019 19:39

My Dd is 4 in October and is getting a giant beanbag with some fairy lights and a unicorn cushion for her room. A unicorn shoulder bag (buynone get one free at Claire’s with the cushion), playdoh and an orchard game.
