Do you think Ivanka Trump has any business representing the U.S on the world stage?

I'm referring to this news article about her at the recent G20 summit:

www.buzzfeednews.com/article/stephaniemcneal/ivanka-trump-g20-viral-video

Other world leaders there - whatever your view of them have legitimacy to be there. Theresa May, Christine Lagarde, Emmanuel Macron, and so forth. But as far as I understand it - Ivanka's only qualification is being the daughter of the current U.S President. I don't think that qualifies her.

Does anyone also see issue with this?

Nope, no business whatsoever. Donald’s doing this in preparation for her presidential bid. The “piece of ass” and “beauty and the beast” comments are so, so disgusting. If he had half a brain cell she’d disassociate herself from her dad immediately.

That clip is hilariously cringe though. She looks like a teenager trying to join in the grown-ups’ chat. Christine Lagarde’s face is excellent Grin

Ivanka Trump is Advisor to the President. In her role, she focuses on the education and economic empowerment of women and their families as well as job creation and economic growth through workforce development, skills training and entrepreneurship.

Prior to her father’s election as forty-fifth President of the United States, Ivanka oversaw development and acquisitions at the Trump Organization alongside her brothers Donald Jr. and Eric. Ivanka led some of the company’s largest and most complex transactions.

Also an entrepreneur, Ivanka founded an eponymous lifestyle brand.

Ivanka graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 2004.

Ivanka is the author of two New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling books.

Ivanka has been included in Fortune magazine’s prestigious “40 Under 40” list (2014) and was honored as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum (2015). Most recently, Ivanka was also featured in Time’s 100 Most Influential list (2017) and Forbes’ “World’s 100 Most Powerful Women” (2017).

.........

She is fab and I hope she’ll follow in her father’s footsteps and become President one day.

You can bitch all you like about her but she’s a high achiever and destined for great success.

MindyStClaire · 01/07/2019 16:51

Ivanka Trump, hereditary monarchy, the second and third generations ruining the family business I used to work for through sheer incompetency... All sides of the same coin.

YouWhoNeverArrived · 01/07/2019 16:51

@Soola Hi, Ivanka Wink

VladmirsPoutine · 01/07/2019 16:55

Thing is. I don't dispute that she is clearly a successful business woman. That's all well and good but I don't find that she has any legitimate reason to be so much a focus on the world stage with other leaders that got there through yes, privilege of some sort but put in the graft regardless. Theresa May is in my opinion one of the worst PM's and an even worse Home Sec when she spear-headed that gov department. She run's her dad's business. That's fine. But what actually qualifies her as a diplomat representing the U.S on the world stage with other leaders?

Ah Soola, I needed a good giggle today :)

How anyone can look at either Donald or his children and honestly describe them as "high achievers" is pretty ridiculous. I think instead, you'll find the word you're looking for is "nepotism" :)

LittleAndOften · 01/07/2019 16:59

All of the other world leaders in that clip were elected public servants.

The odd one out got there through nepotism.

Appointing cronies to positions of political power is an autocratic, not democratic act. It's a slippery slope.

LittleAndOften · 01/07/2019 17:00

OP, I dispute that she's a successful businesswoman! Grin

Her clothing line recently collapsed.

Teddybear45 · 01/07/2019 17:01

Ivanka is more qualified and credible than Melania which is why Trump wheels her out. Ivanka and Melania are both basically doing the job that Michelle Obama and other first ladies were capable of doing by themselves.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 01/07/2019 17:03

I'd be a high achiever if my dad was a billionaire president.

She's a shining example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

LittleAndOften · 01/07/2019 17:03

But Melania doesn't have to have qualifications, she's a wife, not a political appointment.

Ivanka has actually been appointed as a political advisor.

Justathinslice · 01/07/2019 17:04

Hmmm

Regardless of her parentage, qualifications or experience,... taking a video ( from the angle it looks like it was surreptitious), and posting it...? Not on!

floraloctopus · 01/07/2019 17:04

But as far as I understand it - Ivanka's only qualification is being the daughter of the current U.S President. I don't think that qualifies her.

It doesn't qualify her, no. Not much qualifies her father either though.

SemperIdem · 01/07/2019 17:08

I think what qualifies Ivanka is the family trait all the Trumps seem to share, an absolutely astonishing lack of shame. They seem completely incapable of feeling embarrassed about their own actions.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 01/07/2019 17:08

I think Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sums it up for me:
It may be shocking to some, but being someone’s daughter actually isn’t a career qualification.

It hurts our diplomatic standing when the President phones it in & the world moves on.

The US needs our President working the G20. Bringing a qualified diplomat couldn’t hurt either.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 01/07/2019 17:10

Ps I do actually agree thinslice.
If you filmed me at any networking event it would probably look similarly cringingly awful

Isthebigwomanhere · 01/07/2019 17:53

The photoshop of Ivanka in inappropriate places on twitter is hilarious

Theknacktoflying · 01/07/2019 17:57

And if Malia Obama did the same?

If the dictionary wanted to find an illustration of ‘entitlement’

DeRigueurMortis · 01/07/2019 18:19

I see her PR team has arrived Grin

She's fundamentally someone with a very privileged background that's afforded her many advantages in life.

In the context her achievements don't make her exceptional. She's the beneficiary of wealth and her fathers nepotism.

As a pp said - if she really had anything to commend her, she'd be striking out on her own - not working for her fathers business and subsequently political tenure.

However, you get what you vote for and there's no denying that there are a good many Americans who find Trump and his family inspiring as opposed to shameless and embarrassing.

That said looking at this side of the pond we've got nothing to be proud of given it's likely we'll see Boris as PM and Jezza potentially succeeding him - a prize choice between Ebola and small pox....plus the small matter of our economy being ruined by a no deal Brexit.....in that context just how much damage can Ivanka do?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/07/2019 18:23

She hasn’t earned it.

Sl33pingfox · 01/07/2019 18:23

AOC sums it up beautifully and squashed the odious Pierce Morgan's attempts to sneer at her previous job as a bar maid.

She was very inspiring on Knock Down the House and all of the women featured are better qualified to do that job than Ivanka.

Stompythedinosaur · 01/07/2019 18:41

No, it is outrageous nepotism.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 01/07/2019 18:55

Isn’t her role as Advisor to the President

Of course we know she hasn’t worked for that role but that is her job title

So I can’t see why she shouldn’t be there not that I necessarily agree with it

Politics and nepotism have always gone hand in hand she will be running for President in the near future and I wouldn’t be surprised if she becomes the first female president of the US (I thought that as soon as her Trump became president and she was there in meetings with world leaders)

magneticmumbles · 01/07/2019 18:59

High achiever 🤣
No, she's a rich kid that hasn't had to work for anything.

TheBigBallOfOil · 01/07/2019 19:03

If she’d held senior roles in public companies that would be a different matter but she never has. Nor has she diplomatic experience. Same applies to her dad of course but key difference is he managed to persuade several million fuckwits to vote for him,
