Do you let DCs play naked in the garden?

DD is 3 and we have the paddling pool out for the nice weather. She has a ‘thing’ about wet clothes so as soon as she’s out of the pool she takes her costume off and won’t put it back on until it’s completely dry - I don’t have a million swimming costumes for her so I’ve been letting her play naked.

DBro has just called in and commented how inappropriate it is as ‘someone might see’. For reference, our garden isn’t overlooked at all, and due to high fences, neighbours on either side can only see into the garden from their upstairs windows.

So, what are your opinions on DC playing naked in the garden?

No. Our garden is the same, but the batshit neighbour I have next door is enough for it to not be allowed for the reason she could see from upstairs.

wotsittoyou · 29/06/2019 15:05

Mine were naked at that age.

Wet costumes aren't very comfortable once they're out of the water, and they're in and out going from one thing to the next at that age.

We had a gazebo over the paddling pool/sandpit/blanket, they never burned.

Your brother shouldn't be giving you patenting advice.

Parenting, obv.

I think it's a sad indictment of the world today when you feel you can't let small kids run about without clothes

Biancadelrioisback · 29/06/2019 15:12

I still hang out nude in my own back garden. Only people who can see my are the occupants of my house or a drone if it chose to fly over the garden.
My son loves playing naked in the garden

YouJustDoYou · 29/06/2019 15:15

Yes. No one can see.

WizardOfAus · 29/06/2019 15:15

Living in the Australian tropics, our DC’s are permanently without clothes.

HairyToity · 29/06/2019 15:24

Yes!! Mine love being naked.

notso · 29/06/2019 15:30

Christ no, they have ginger genes and skin cancer in the family plus one reacts really badly to suncream.

Gertie75 · 29/06/2019 15:34

My two dd's aged 4 and 6 are naked a lot of the time when it's hot, I'd put clothes on them if we had visitors but when it's just us there's no problem.

Right now the youngest is in the garden and the eldest is playing in her bedroom, both naked.

Mine have been out today in factor 50, t shirts, hats and sun glasses. Their dad is Turkish but only one of them was blessed with olive skin, the other two are so pale they are see through. I couldn’t find their UV suits or I’d have put them in them.

I had factor 50 on while watching them play and I’ve burnt Sad

PattedPlont · 29/06/2019 15:58

I did as a kid, and all of mine did up to the age of about 5. Never thought anything of it in the back garden!

Your DBro would hate the thread about the elderly neighbours mowing the lawn in the nuddy.

HotChocolateLover · 29/06/2019 15:59

Garden yes. In public- No.

ChoudeBruxelles · 29/06/2019 16:06

Brits worry so much about things like this. In Spain, France young children are on the beach in just bottoms or naked. Ds ran around our garden naked at 3. He didn’t care. I don’t give a shit of a naked 3 year old upsets other people. If a paedophile happened to be peering from a neighbour’swindow I doubt a small pair of trunks would make much difference

DisputedChair · 29/06/2019 16:07

Mine is seven and hasn’t worn clothes at all today.

BenWillbondsPants · 29/06/2019 16:09

As long as they were in the shade, of course. Mine always did. It's weird to think this is weird!

ElizaPancakes · 29/06/2019 16:11

We don’t have a back garden but if we did and they wanted to I’d let them.

Theghosttrain · 29/06/2019 16:13

Whyever not? As long as they are protected from the sun with cream of course. My DD went through a phase of taking her clothes off whenever she was hot, she spent an entire birthday party starkers. It's saddening how attitudes have changed.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 29/06/2019 16:19

Yes, I do it and I'm 56.

Kashali · 29/06/2019 16:33

Yes, definitely, sad if you can't at this age.

stucknoue · 29/06/2019 16:47

Well we do when the teenager DD's aren't home (or are indoors occupied) though only sunbathing

JE17 · 29/06/2019 17:15

Mine always played naked in the garden when they were smaller. We have a small pool in the garden now and DD10 will jump in with just her pants on if she gets half a chance (mix of too lazy to put on costume and also very comfortable being naked).

HearMeSnore · 29/06/2019 17:42

I generally worry more about sunburn than I do about perverts with binoculars, but I don't think I'd let DD strip off anywhere other than a private back garden (although when she was a toddler I did once let her run around on the beach in a t-shirt but no nappy. She was delighted about it.)

She's 7 now and a little more self-conscious so she generally chooses to keep her swimsuit on. Having said that, in the heatwave last year she went to play in her cousins' paddling pool, and within half an hour they were all naked and bouncing on the trampoline. Shock

StandardPoodle · 29/06/2019 18:07

Mine were naked ay that age if it was very hot and they were playing with water, but we do have a private back garden.

SkintAsASkintThing · 29/06/2019 18:10

No. Mainly because bum areas can get sore. Especially with girls if they're sat in sand or whatever. Just pop some knickers on.
