Help I hate driving :(

I had several lessons (20+) in a manual but I could not get it at all so I switched to an auto and am now six lessons in. I find it much easier than a manual but I still cannot get to grips with all the rules of the road. I panic and forget which way to indicate, I can't figure out who is supposed to give way to who, I am shite at gauging distance. I haven't even been on a dual carriageway yet and I am absolutely dreading it.

I'm learning in SE London which doesn't help as other drivers are fast and aggressive.

I have a lovely and patient instructor but I have no confidence. I feel I'm shit and I'm never going to improve. Got another lesson this morning - we are going to tackle the big roundabout and I'm already having kittens about it. Just hate it.

Has anyone else overcome this? My default reaction is to panic and forget everything Sad

op you could be me honestly!

I learnt because I was pregnant and felt that I had to, I also tried manual and could not do it. Just couldn't. don't have the coordination.

Passed first time in an auto and hated every minute of every driving lesson.

I passed and then did not drive for almost 3 years (I lived a walk to work and nursery, so did that.)

we then moved and I HAD to drive. I still don't like it, but its getting easier. The more I do it, the less scared I am, and now I don't think i'll kill someone or myself, but still v cautious of other drivers which you should be anyway!

I think when you move out of London it will probably be easier!

keep at it and you will start to hate it less I reckon, I wont say you'll love it because I don't and I don't think I ever will, but it serves a purpose!

Just stick at it - you will get there in the end.

I took seven tests (!) and several years but did it eventually. Some people are just slower to learn than others.

OP, how did you get on in the end? I'm curious to know as I'll too soon be learning in SE London. Would you recommend your instructor?
