Eating down freezer contents as moving and I have a cauli cheese. What should we have with it for a quick easy dinner? My girlfriend doesn't eat meat and my brain is blank Grin

A big green salad or roasted veggies.

Ohyesiam · 19/06/2019 13:41

Bacon for you, frozen peas for her.
Actually you can have peas too.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 19/06/2019 13:42

baked potato (if you have time for it to cook) . veggie sausages if not and salad

Tough one. How weird are you prepared to go?

With green veg?

On toast?

With ham for you and some sort of vegetarian sausage, quorn gammon style steak for your GF?

Boil up with some vegetable stock, blend and have cauliflower cheese soup?

With a roast dinner, at the risk of generating even more leftovers in a 'one step forward, 2 steps back' way? I would probably choose the latter, which is why our freezer is always bulging and efforts to run it down seem to go nowhere.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 19/06/2019 13:44

my suggestion is ham, but not so much for your girlfriend!

Garlic bread and a green salad?

We often have Cauliflower cheese as a main, but I always put bacon on top in that case. And everyone has garlic bread or crusty bread.

BirdyBedtime · 19/06/2019 13:44

Nothing better than cauliflower cheese and chips!

SusieFlo · 19/06/2019 13:45

Agree with the responder who said jacket potato (especially oven cooked, with skins slightly oiled & seasoned with salt & dried rosemary). And veggie sausages.

I also quite like cauli cheese as a side dish with roast salmon or sea bass (assuming one of you is non-veggie).

Roast potatoes.
Or
Garlic bread.

Or top it with breadcrumbs. Yummy.

Inis · 19/06/2019 13:46

I like it with a very cold, crunchy green salad with punchy vinaigrette -- the contrast of textures is delicious, and I love hot with cold. Add a baked potato or good bread if you want to make it more substantial?

notso · 19/06/2019 13:47

I like it on its own. As a child we had it with thickly buttered white bread.
My kids (the two who eat it) like it with gammon, sausages or bacon or sometimes I put it between the mince and the potatoes in a cottage pie.

DoYouNeedAWee · 19/06/2019 13:53

Pasta ? Potatoes?

The2Ateam · 19/06/2019 13:54

With chips and a green salad.

My personal fave is as a side to steak or roast beef.

LiveatCityHall · 19/06/2019 13:58

More cauliflower cheese Grin

Cailleach · 19/06/2019 13:58

Green veg for me, every time.

DameFanny · 19/06/2019 14:16

Hasselback potatoes and green peas, also enough ketchup to qualify it as a vegetable

AbsentmindedWoman · 19/06/2019 14:29

Thank you for these suggestions, lots sound good!

Is it only meat she doesnt eat would she eat fish with it?

I have a huge cauliflower and a gammon joint in my fridge ready for Friday. Cant wait!

AwkwardPaws27 · 19/06/2019 15:19

More cauliflower cheese

I second this.

Redshoeblueshoe · 19/06/2019 15:21

It doesn't need anything with it

SamBeckett · 19/06/2019 15:24

I'd go for a jacket spud and salad too . depending on how much cauliflower cheese is to go around how much salad you get possibly even garlic bread if I'm really hungry

ExpletiveDelighted · 19/06/2019 15:32

On its own, maybe with peas, add chips if you're really hungry. I don't serve it with meat or fish though, it is a main meal in itself.

Weepingwillows12 · 19/06/2019 15:35

Quiche?

happyhillock · 19/06/2019 15:39

Salad and garlic bread would be my choice

Teddybear45 · 19/06/2019 15:40

Roasted carrots / potatoes are really good with cauliflower cheese

koolaider · 19/06/2019 15:41

Chunky chips and tomato ketchup
