First-time poster here, so please be gentle!

Back in my 20s and early 30s I used to sail competitively. Amateur dinghy racing, local and national level with a few international events. Not particularly great, but not awful either.

I gave up about 15 years ago, as I’d had enough of the scene: the drinking, gossip, borderline bullying from tough guys on and off the water. I’d had some MH issues and it’s fair to say that sailing exacerbated them horribly.

Fast-forward to this year, and blow me down if I haven’t got a burning desire to try the sport out again. I no longer have any contacts in the sport, but the thought of bumping into anyone I used to know is terrifying! (Although I’d hope we’ve all grown up a bit). My MH issues are all dealt with now.

Has anyone done this? Gone back to a sport or social scene that they’d long given up on? After a long break? I know it’s a seriously long shot, but I’m curious to see if anyone here has tried this. Thanks!

Hi @LayingGhostsToRest, we're just bumping this thread for you in case there are any Mumsnetters around who've been in the same boat (pun intended)... Smile
