What spirits/alcoholic drinks can you drink without a mixer?

I find fizzy drinks bloating but would still like an alcoholic drink other than wine. Are there any nice enough to drink neat?

Grey Goose.

Userplusnumbers · 14/06/2019 20:46

Go for a cocktail OP, personally I like a Manhattan, and a dry gin martini.

RottnestFerry · 14/06/2019 20:49

A good champagne Cognac is my favourite neat tipple.

I can't drink cheap brandy neat.

Amaretto, lovely if you like marzipan

OxanaVorontsova · 14/06/2019 20:50

Disaronno
Good vodka
Gin liqueurs

I can sip and enjoy a decent whisky, rum, brandy or (interestingly flavoured) gin - and there's thousands of them. There's Baileys, Kahlua and the many clones. I can't take tequila, ouzo or vodka neat, but maybe you can. Non-fizzy cocktails can be very simple - sangria, diaquiri, mojito etc. There's also your ports and sherries, sake. Beer! There's plenty of non-fizzy ales, milds and bitters. Still ciders tend towards scrumpy, but there's nothing wrong with that (until you find yourself dancing alone in a field somewhere in the middle of the night with one shoe and no knickers on).

I always drink whisky neat, or with a splash of chilled mineral water. The idea of putting sickly sweet mixer into an Islay malt is appalling!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/06/2019 20:54

Mix some cocktails? A Pornstar Martini doesn't have any fizzy mixers.

Bailey's.

TheWoollybacksWife · 14/06/2019 20:54

Limoncello
Sloe Gin
Apple Martini

I made some red currant gin last year that was fantastic neat.

Wolfcubisthefemalenominal · 14/06/2019 20:55

Whisky, Rum, some gins

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 14/06/2019 20:56

Mix with orange juice, or how about a bloody Mary?

CuppaSarah · 14/06/2019 20:56

Blue Curacao, vodka or lemoncello are my drinks of choice.

chipsandgin · 14/06/2019 21:02

Whisky (I love a single malt but there are some perfectly nice supermarket blends around & usually something decent on offer), dry gin martini, rum (Kracken is very delicious!). Just be careful if they are your ‘all evening’ drink as it’s way too easy to knock them back!

I’m partial to a tequila too but usually at the end of an evening out - always think it’s a great idea, not generally the case!..

Tanqueray Sterling vodka straight from the freezer, if you can find a source for it.

Myusernameismud · 14/06/2019 21:08

If you can get hold of it still, there's a Heston Blumenthal cherry bakewell vodka that is perfect on its own (but even better with cream soda!)

Myusernameismud · 14/06/2019 21:08

Oh it's from Waitrose btw

FizzBuzzBangWoof · 14/06/2019 21:09

Amaretto or Baileys on ice

For anything else I'd need a mixer

TitianaTitsling · 14/06/2019 21:12

Ooo a lovely Glayva (whisky liqueur) over ice, or a Edradour Highland whisky!

WhoKnew19 · 14/06/2019 22:12

Another one for amaretto here or a cheeky sherry!

HairyMcWary · 14/06/2019 22:19

Benedictine
Sloe gin
Baileys
Limoncello

dreichuplands · 14/06/2019 22:20

Whisky in cold months
Tequila straight out of the freezer.
You need to buy decent quality though.

shitpark · 14/06/2019 22:21

Good whiskey
Baileys
Rum

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 14/06/2019 22:24

Asda's version of Malibu (I think it's called Coconut Bay)
Amarula
Tia Maria
Cherry bakewell gin
Persian Blue gin

TwistinMyMelon · 14/06/2019 22:26

An old fashioned cocktail. Basically pretty much neat whiskey but is beautiful...
