I was talking with my Ds12, earlier, about the late, great, George Michael and he asked, was he still alive... I told him, that sadly he had died. He asked me how, and it occurred to me , that I don't know. I was a massive fan, back in the day, and was sad at his passing. Was his cause of death ever made public?

It does feel wrong that he isn't here. I hope he knew how much he was liked by everyone.

Whatthefunk · 02/06/2019 14:37

I've been given tickets for the fast love show. It supposed to be brilliant, but I'm not convinced...

A year or so before his death he spent some time in an Austrian clinic where he was very ill with pneumonia. So perhaps his overall health was not good

Cirrhosis (liver damage) goes with immunity compromise, and makes those with liver disease an easy target of pneumonia. Sadly he would have been very unwell towards the end. Non Alcoholic liver disease is now one of the main reasons for liver transplants but due to poor diet and greater consumption of alcohol there are less healthy livers available. The liver does not have an alternative such as pace makers for heart or dialysis for kidneys. It is the largest organ and thought to be responsible for 500 functions (not everything is yet known) so it is vital we "love our livers" by healthy diets and sensible alcohol consumption.

Such a shame as a real talent.

Awww gorgeous George I absolutely love him. It's genuinely heartbreaking that he's not here.
Definitely one of a kind

PolaDeVeboise · 02/06/2019 18:14

@Whatthefunk. I honestly couldn't - no-one could possibly do him justice IMO, in fact, my attitude is 'how DARE they'?

Tolleshunt · 02/06/2019 18:20

I wasn't particularly a fan of his music, though I did enjoy some of it, probably more during his Wham days. But I am genuinely sad at his passing, as he was such a kind and generous person that it feels like the world is worse off for his passing. The stories of his paying for IVF etc for strangers, all on the QT and not publicised till after his death, made me look at him in a new light. Such a shame.

abbiecloud · 02/06/2019 18:32

Chris Martin doing a cover of Different Corner at the Brits showed just how good George was

UrsulaPandress · 02/06/2019 18:35

A friend sent me a newspaper clipping a few years ago. Apparently George used to hang out in Le Beatroute in SoHo at the same time that we did.

Eastpoint · 02/06/2019 18:40

His death really upsets me, such a great artist. Weirdly his birthday is just before DH’s but GM always seemed much older, perhaps because I used to watch Wham on TOTP.

ControversialFerret · 02/06/2019 18:48

Wonderful voice and such a talented musician.

Jesus to a Child, Praying for Time, Freedom and Outside are my favourites. I love the video for Outside - he had a great sense of humour and wasn't afraid to send himself up.

TheFaerieQueene · 02/06/2019 18:52

Not just a great artist, but a kind and gentle man who was so generous but didn’t ever advertise it. Not like the fame hungry z listers who fill up the media.
He was cut from a rare cloth.

BarbarAnna · 02/06/2019 18:53

Like a Baby is in my top 5 always, along with Kissing a Fool. The others change depending on mood. Watching him sing Somebody to Love for Freddie gets me every time. Loved George.

abbiecloud · 02/06/2019 18:53

Yes Ferret, loved the scene in Extras in the park eating a kebab !

PolaDeVeboise · 02/06/2019 19:02

A Different Corner (couldn't agree more @abbiecloud), Father Figure, Outside, I'm Your Man and Somebody to Love are my top five (at the moment). Oh, and I LOVE Heartbeat.

abbiecloud · 02/06/2019 19:04

Heartbeat is my absolute fave !!! I played Make it Big on a loop, also loved 'if you were there' and 'where did your heart go'

abbiecloud · 02/06/2019 19:05

And 'credit card baby' !

unicornsrule · 02/06/2019 19:08

Loved george michael
Saw him live an amazing voice

BarbarAnna · 02/06/2019 19:09

Been listening to Where did your Heart Go loads lately! Haven’t listened to Credit Card Baby for a loooooong time!

BestIsWest · 02/06/2019 19:10

I wasn’t much of a fan when I was younger. I was a fool. The man was a genius. A very sad loss.

BellaBellaBelle · 02/06/2019 19:25

His voice was just pure silk. No one else has been able to match up to that for me.

Bagpuss49 · 02/06/2019 22:06

He died from Cardiomyopathy on Xmas day 2016 he was 53 June 25 is #GM56 George Michael day which would have been his 56th birthday fans will gather at Goring the weekend before to celebrate his life before the C&A concert at Brixton academy

mummyof2munchkins · 02/06/2019 22:57

A poet and a genius. I once sat on a coach to London reading the lyrics to the songs on the Older album. They made me cry. far more moving than most of the "credible" poetry I was studying for A level. His ability to absolutley hit an emotion with his music is(was) amazing. I saw him live a number of times. In later years he was obviously troubled. So sad that he passed so young. Sad

howwudufeel · 02/06/2019 23:02

An amazing singer and songwriter. He wrote Careless Whisper when he was 17. He was too shy to be a solo artist so roped Andrew in. His lyrics are amazing too. What an immense loss.

Pinkarsedfly · 02/06/2019 23:04

A truly good soul.

I love Waiting For That Day, Freedom, Edge of Heaven, Jesus to a Child and Everything She Wants.

He needed a good mate to talk him round.

redeyetonowheregood · 02/06/2019 23:05

Beautiful man. I loved the duet he did with mutya Buena...this is not real live. Their voices were a very good fit.
