We’re on holiday in Norfolk and I’ve come up with a new business idea

DH won’t even discuss it as he thinks it’s ludicrous. Spoilsport.

I reckon you could make a fortune if you rented out shiny Range Rovers or the latest Discovery along with a choice of black Labradors or spaniels.

Red trouser / beachcomber jumper / well worn deck shoe rental available for a premium.

Barbour jackets, Hermes scarves and pearls an option.

Obviously there would be the set up cost, but you could partner with the terribly smart holiday homes along the coast and everything could be waiting on arrival.

Is there a market for this? Have I come up with the Next New Thing?!

Are you at Wells?

You forgot to have a wardrobe full of kids Boden in the holiday home too.

woodcutbirds · 30/05/2019 08:26

Can you offer capsules to swallow so that your chap has no volume control enabling him to bray and hoot and limit his conversation to ski chalet ownership and test drives?

Jenala · 30/05/2019 08:27

You must be in north Norfolk Grin
Holkham? Wells? Blakeney?

Drive round the coast to Yarmouth or pop to Kings Lynn. Market is probably quite limited 😂

Fairylea · 30/05/2019 08:29

I live in Norfolk (moved here from London 10 years ago) and I am laughing at this Grin

Outofinspiration · 30/05/2019 08:32

Yes, great idea!

I agree that if you went down the coast a bit you wouldn't have quite the same uptake Grin

Collectorofcookbooks · 30/05/2019 08:33

Yes! I KNEW it was a good idea.

North Norfolk coastal village Wink

Mini Boden wardrobe - done. Can’t believe I missed that one.

Sit up and beg bike with basket on the front - too much?

Lol, don't forget the pill that makes people you don't know either completely invisible or so bizarre looking you're forced to stare right through them. And stops you being able to engage them in polite conversation.

Collectorofcookbooks · 30/05/2019 08:36

Ok, so it’s a niche market. But sounds like the basic principles are right.

YY to the honking capsule. For an additional cost I reckon I could provide a script featuring Binky and Miles, Clarissa and Jonty.

On a side note, if you have children under 11 make sure you visit Bewilderwood, Pensthorpe is brilliant for all ages with a great play area. Als, both are excellent venues to scope out your target market.

BringOnTheScience · 30/05/2019 08:43

Hairdresser appointments on arrival, as they all have exactly the same hair too!

Bubbington · 30/05/2019 08:50

You forgot stripey navy and white tops from Joules , the jauntier the better, those basket weavey wine bottle carriers for taking your own wine to Cookies Crab Shed. A navy jumper from Crew Clothing for him to wear jauntily over his shoulders in a way he never would at home.

SnugglySnerd · 30/05/2019 08:53

I think it could be a chain of businesses actually with franchises in Aldeburgh and certain parts of Cornwall.

justaweeone · 30/05/2019 08:59

I live in Norfolk and avoid the North Norfolk coast in the summer!
Get yourself to here Smile

I like to combine with a trip to b& m and home bargains in Great YarmouthGrinclassy as I am! There is an M & S Food though nearby to maintain some of my standards

Collectorofcookbooks · 30/05/2019 09:04

I also thought about the franchise potential, but didn’t want to grow the business too quickly @SnugglySneard Grin

Stripy tops yes, also crisp white shirts worn with gilets

Jaunty jumper tying instructions added to the list

Socks confiscated on arrival

Shhhh....Justaweeone don't let the holiday makers know about that beach! Danny Boyles done enough damage, its going to be filled with enough people this year as it is.

However, Justaweeone is right it is a very lovely sandy long beach, a couple of small amusements and a few ice cream shops. If you fancy lunch whilst in Gorleston then the Cafe on the prom has lovely tea and cakes or visit Margos which is a short walk away.

justaweeone · 30/05/2019 09:10

Single you're right maybe I shouldn't have let the secret out!😆

DinosApple · 30/05/2019 09:13

Grin We always say the Cockneys are up.
I love North Norfolk (it's not far), but yes OP you'd make a fortune. You must also stock a full colour range of corduroy trousers.

Please also consider opening a branch in Southwold. Wink

virginqueen · 30/05/2019 09:15

I love this ! I live near and the population doubles in the summer. People with very loud voices and no sense of their own space. Filling up pavements with children, dogs etc. You could also provide clothes for the elderly grandparents. Try Bakers and Larners in Holt. All their clothes are for people over 70.

Singleandproud · 30/05/2019 09:19

Ofcourse, you should also include a London - Norfolk vocab book to truly fit in and ensure that they can pronounce Wymondham and Happisburgh properly (phonics don't count in Norfolk).

Sidge · 30/05/2019 09:23

Spot on!

I think you have potential market appeal down in the Cotswolds, some of Devon (Charmouth, Salcombe etc) as well as Cornwall and coastal Suffolk like Aldeburgh. Also Chichester way, you could capture the Glyndebourne set.

Bubbington · 30/05/2019 09:27

I used to holiday there with a dear friend and we used to have a competition to count the stripey tops, extra marks if they were particularly 'jaunty, out of season when school holidays end stripey top wearers all have a particular type of grey bobbed hair

Collectorofcookbooks · 30/05/2019 09:32

A potential name for this enterprise:

The Terribly British Accoutrement Company

An Authentic Holiday

What would I do with the dogs out of the summer season? There’s only so many point to points they could be hired out for.
