We’re on holiday in Norfolk and I’ve come up with a new business idea

DH won’t even discuss it as he thinks it’s ludicrous. Spoilsport.

I reckon you could make a fortune if you rented out shiny Range Rovers or the latest Discovery along with a choice of black Labradors or spaniels.

Red trouser / beachcomber jumper / well worn deck shoe rental available for a premium.

Barbour jackets, Hermes scarves and pearls an option.

Obviously there would be the set up cost, but you could partner with the terribly smart holiday homes along the coast and everything could be waiting on arrival.

Is there a market for this? Have I come up with the Next New Thing?!

PS today’s underwear is from Sainsburys and my shoes are from Tesco...

You should venture to Holt as well, you would LOVE IT, essentially gets taken over by Londoners around this time of year and they seem to all dress a bit like Madonna when she was married to Guy Richie.....

Collectorofcookbooks · 30/05/2019 19:11

Going for coffee at Byfords tomorrow @PinkSpring! Lunch at Wiveton Hall yesterday...just need to get myself a floral frock.

I live here too. We always sit in Wells/Holkham and score points for everything you describe. It's particularly fun watching the landrovers pull up and betting on which pedigree will spill out.

ForalltheSaints · 30/05/2019 19:40

You could have an urban branch in Muswell Hill too!

RomanyQueen1 · 30/05/2019 19:44

Do any of you know anything about North Norfolk, folks are skint not paying over the odds for mc stuff.
Further down Yarmouth is one of the most deprived areas in the UK Grin
People with money tend not to go to Norfolk on holiday, the locals who stay in the area are too skint for touristy services.

thegreatcrestednewt · 30/05/2019 19:46

I reckon this would go down a storm in cornwall too!

JeantheHipster · 30/05/2019 19:48

And West Wittering

Singleandproud · 30/05/2019 20:02

Yarmouth itself maybe deprived as its such an old fishing / tourist town but don’t be deceived, there is plenty of money just outside of it.
Although I think Yarmouth has more pound shops than any other area in the country.

MiaCulper · 30/05/2019 20:02

Bakers and Larners have got some smashing red trews in stock at the moment.

Deli counter is my favourite bit. The most ridiculously over-priced food slapped in a bag by the surliest, most joyless man in the world. If I were flogging Scotch eggs for £3.75 each to people who are old enough to know better, I think I’d have a permanent grin on my face.

Their vegan/veggie ranges are very good though (and why I am dragged in by DD).

RuffleCrow · 30/05/2019 20:32

Yarmouth is not typical of North Norfolk as a whole.

As for Norfolk generally - Thetford, Kings Lynn and parts of Norwich are pretty deprived. Everywhere else is predominantly MC.

Singleandproud · 30/05/2019 20:50

You also need a pop-up yurt at Latitude - The Boden of music festivals

thegreatcrestednewt · 30/05/2019 21:09

YouWhoNeverArrived - really? Advice is that dc should not try crab and shellfish till 12 months. Plus advised weaning age is 6 months, not 4...

YouWhoNeverArrived · 30/05/2019 21:51

@thegreatcrestednewt Babies can be safely weaned any time after 17 weeks, as long as they're able to sit supported etc. Having looked at the research evidence, DH and I (both doctors) were happy to start first tastes at 18 weeks. We started giving purees regularly at 20 weeks. Very happy with our informed decision to start weaning earlier than 26 weeks Smile

We couldn't find any reason not to give shellfish to a child who is being weaned. The NHS advice just says to avoid raw shellfish due to infection risk. This was cooked.

From an allergen point of view, he was fine.

There is actually evidence that introducing peanut and egg before 6 months is beneficial in terms of reducing future allergies: www.food.gov.uk/research/food-allergy-and-intolerance-research/eat-study-early-introduction-of-allergenic-foods-to-induce-tolerance

ErrolTheDragon · 31/05/2019 00:13

From an allergen point of view, he was fine.

If you've got the requisite number of labs or spaniels he'll have a hearty immune system already, won't he?

It's years since I've seen the word 'jaunty', delightful thread.Grin

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 31/05/2019 00:19

Hmm don't think you'd get the custom in Overstrand as everyone seems quite normal. Or Hunstanton for that matter.
Maybe it's because it's Chisits central in the summer.

isthatabloborwhat · 31/05/2019 00:39

You're forgetting something OP. When the north-east wind blows in from the North Sea along that coast it is damn cold. People are going to want to rent an Aga.

Orchardgreen · 31/05/2019 00:40

I visited Bakers and Larners in Holt when I was training a Labrador Guide Dog puppy, they are allowed in shops. She helped herself to a bread roll........ooh, the shame.....

lljkk · 31/05/2019 01:22

I live in North Norfolk. We will be on the beach on Saturday :)
I expect to see plenty of lurchers, fat folk, pasty skin & sunburns.
Landrovers & wellies, no.

Collectorofcookbooks · 31/05/2019 07:32

I met the most beautiful wolfhound wearing a neckerchief on the quayside last night.

His owner has had to reinforce the suspension on the car as he’s so heavy.

I don’t think wolfhounds and Agas could be conveyed by pony express.

Maybe I just need to buy a mansion here and set up an enclave. Might be easier.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off for a run and then a bacon butty on the beach with DH. Whilst I’m pounding the coast path I will smile and pant good morning to everyone I pass, fear not!

OP you are welcome to borrow my spaniel to hire out. However on a recent trip to the beach in north Norfolk he rolled in a dead seal - so perhaps not the look (or stink) you are aiming for 🤢Grin

AlexaAmbidextra · 31/05/2019 12:25

You have to sell temporary names for children. Hugo Darling and Jemima Sweetie are good ones. 😄

chocolatebuttonsandcheese · 02/06/2019 21:48

Yes don't forget the hunters! Also, national trust badge stuck in the Range Rover window and strict instructions to only drink coffee from 'independent chains'. No costas please!

Bloody hate those north Norfolk know it all's.

Schnitzelvonkrumb · 03/06/2019 07:59

We've just been to Norfolk, staying fairly near the towns just mentioned. We tried to go to wells one day but couldn't find anywhere to park so came back......which was just as well as my friend later told me it was compulsory to have a dog if you go to wells (and we dont!)

ProfessorofPerspective · 03/06/2019 08:14

Wish I could find the photo but in Wells a few years ago, there was a handwritten sign in a shop window, asking for newspapers for recycling 'broadsheets only'

Obviously.
