Whats your morning routine?

ilovebiscuitsandcats · 20/05/2019 07:49

What is your morning routine and how much time is there before you get out of bed and go to work? I’m looking to try and make my mornings more productive but equally I really struggle getting out of bed. For reference I don’t have kids and I don’t eat breakfast so just need to get myself ready for work at 8 am

OP posts:
RedSkyLastNight · 20/05/2019 07:58

DH get up at 7.15. I enjoy having the bed to myself for a bit and get up by 7.30 (DH goes to have breakfast and make lunches so gets back to the bedroom at 7.30, so I aim to be up before he does.

Go downstairs, put kettle on, make lunch. Eat breakfast. Sit and MN with cup of tea until 8 at latest.
Have quick wash, brush hair and teeth etc (I exercise and therefore shower at night). Get dressed.
Leave house at 8.15.
I hate mornings too, but having time to sit, makes them easier!

crochetmonkey74 · 20/05/2019 08:04

Alarm goes off at 5.50am, have a cuddle until 6am. I get up first, have a shower or quick bath, make us a cup of tea for when DP comes down at 6.30am. Then make up, hair, dress and sit with cuppa. Leave for work between 7.15am if walking and 7.40am if getting a lift or driving.
I like to have a good chunk of sitting time in the morning or I feel too rushed!

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 20/05/2019 09:01

Alarm goes off at 5. May already be awake if DC wakes before then.
Downstairs to make a cup of tea and warm milk for DC. Empty dishwashers while kettle boils.
Shower (with toddler playing in bathroom if awake) and get dressed while drinking tea.
Dress toddler.
Give toddler breakfast while I take lunch from fridge/hang wash load/put slow cooker on - any combination of the above.
Nursery run/handover to MIL depending on day.
Leave at 6.30 for train.
Sit and read MN or Kindle or MSE on train.
Get into work 7.45 and eat breakfast and start work.

Theoldwoman · 20/05/2019 10:43

I get up between 4 and 5am.

Go to the toilet, feed the cat, put the kettle on, turn on the computer.

Make a cuppa and sit and check emails, weather etc.

Put a load of washing on and robot vacuum comes on at 5:30am and does the kitchen and dining room.

Iron clothes for the day if I didn't do them the night before.

Make the bed.

Feed rest of the zoo.

Kids get up between 6am and 7am depending on who needs to be where.

Make breakfast for everyone.

Eat. Shower. Dress. Hair and makeup.

Hang out the washing.

Usually out the door at 7:50am.

REDCARBLUE · 20/05/2019 10:48

6:30 alarm and im up. Make lunchboxes for DS and me.
Feed pet lamb and check other sheep round the house. DH does the other lot in other fields.

7am eat breakfast, Wake DD1, DH takes her for the college bus for 7:50.

7:30 wake DD2 and DS and wash my hair/makeup/dress. Then yell numerous times at the kids to get a move on and make beds/tidy up. Out if the house 8:30 ish.

Fantail · 20/05/2019 10:48

Alarm at 6. Test blood sugar levels. One of my medications makes me a bit lightheaded so I spend 10 minutes or so working my way up to vertical.

Then up, coffee on, lunches and breakfast made. Sit down and eat breakfast with my daughter.

Shower if I haven’t done the night before. Dress, hair and basic make up.

Feed cat. Make bed.

Out door between 7.20am and 7.45am depending on if it’s been a good or bad morning. If good, then we bus, if bad then the car.

My daughter sorts herself out except for lunch and breakfast making. She makes her bed and tidied her room.

SimonJT · 20/05/2019 10:50

6am alarm goes off
6:05ish feed the cat
6:10 twenty minutes of insanity (the exercise dvd!)
6:30 shower and mentally complain about having to work
6:45 get dressed
6:50 dry hair
7:00 get son out of bed and watch while he gets dressed or he does it in slow motion
7:05ish brush our teeth together
7:10 breakfast
7:20 massive rush for school bag etc and then we walk to pre-school.

gotmychocolateimgood · 20/05/2019 10:50

Kids wake me up at 7am
I feel like I've been in a car crash, stiff and sore all over, so take a few deep breaths (chronic illness) and get up. Pretend to be fine and in a good mood
Make breakfast - table set night before
Inhale coffee
Nag children to eat their cereal
Nag them to get dressed-clothes out night before
Nag them to brush teeth / wash faces
Get dressed myself
Realise they are still not dressed and staring into space wearing one sock only
Nag some more
Feed pets
Threaten things I will never follow through with
Brush my teeth
Nag children to get into car (cannot walk the whole way to school any more)
Realise I have forgotten something on the way
Lose temper in car
Walk rest of the way to school feeling I might collapse
Drop kids at school and walk back to car
Drive home and go back to bed crying with guilt
Today was not a great morning.

Damntheman · 20/05/2019 12:07

Before kids I could be up and out of the house in literally ten minutes bed to door :D I miss those days!

Now I have an alarm at 6.45, stumble out of bed by 6.50 and spend a few minutes threatening to murder my kids if they don't get up. We are usually dressed and washed by 7.10, then I spend some time threatening murder if my kids don't eat their breakfast. I multitask here between murder threats by packing the lunch boxes into kindy bags/work bags and then wrestle shoes onto the honeybadgers kids. Leave the house for 7.25/7.30, drop the kids at kindy and I'm usually at work for 8am.

Purplelion · 20/05/2019 13:20

Alarm goes off at 6:20.
Oh gets up and feeds the cat/washes/brushes his teeth etc.
6:40-OH leaves.
7-I wake the girls if they aren't up. Older one gets herself dressed, I dress the toddler and myself.
7:10-Quick wash and make up for me (I shower in the evenings)
7:25-Downstairs, Oldest DD makes her lunch for the day, I pack toddlers bag and my work bag (I get lunch provided at work)
7:30-All brush our teeth.
7:35-7:40-Leave the house.
8-Drop oldest at secondary school.
8:10-Drop toddler at childminders.

The girls eat breakfast at school/childminders and I grab a snack when I get to work!

lostfrequencies · 20/05/2019 16:21

6:30 wake up and shower
6:45 go downstairs with my toddler and get him breakfast, make myself a cup of tea. Put kids TV on
7:00 put make up on / dry hair / get changed
7:30 make lunch, pack bags
7:45 drive DS to nursery and go to work

IABUQueen · 21/05/2019 00:07

Wow am I the only one waking up at 9 and complaining it’s too early.

To be fair my toddler is a night feeder. But still

OytheBumbler · 21/05/2019 00:19

You're all so organised!
Snooze buttons people!
They're there for a reason!

Faster · 21/05/2019 00:21

DS shouts me awake at 6:30
DS getting into bed with DP and they read a story whilst I shower.
DP into shower.
I do hair and make up (10m) whilst DS is happy with book.
Dress DS. Do his teeth.
Downstairs.
Feed cat.
Feed DS.
Pack lunch into my bag and prep breakfast porridge in Tupperware for when I get to work.
Everyone out the door by 7:30.

Herland · 21/05/2019 00:30

gotmychocolate you could be me... Except for table being laid the night before. Mine is more likely to still have a half eaten apple, a homework jotter and a gazillion fecking LOL dolls on it from the day before.

I long to be someone who gets up at 6 to do an hour of exercise before showering and blow drying and waking my kids up fully ready for the day. But alas I am destined to be clutching on to the duvet for dear life until the last possible moment before flying around the house like a dervish shrieking and chucking things into school bags with wet hair and smudged mascara.

supadupapupascupa · 21/05/2019 00:30

Alarm at 7:15, snooze till 8:00. Shout dd to get moving. Up washed and dressed by 8:15, organise dd and breakfast, hair, school bags. Out of door 8:40. Come back from school run and then sort myself out with lunches, makeup, breakfast before work at 9:30

BrightOink · 21/05/2019 11:45

First alarm at 6.15 - kick DH out of bed if he's not up already. Snooze until 7.

Slowly have a coffee or 3, tidy, listen to 5live, make beds, collect pots, put a wash together, have shower and clean down bathroom.

Sort animals, check emails, send children off, tidy away, clean up and put washing in.

All out of the house at 8.35/45.

I would love to be an early bird and get a run or swim in before all of this, but my body clock resists. I love sleep too much.

purplelass · 21/05/2019 11:54

6:30 alarm, shower, dress, sort hair out
7:00 wake DD up, feed cat, make packed lunches, make breakfast
7:20 eat breakfast & watch BBC news
7:40 brush teeth, make sure DD is all sorted for school
7:50 leave for work

DD doesn't leave for school til 8:10 so I have to leave her to her own devices. It's been difficult building the trust but she very rarely lets me down!

disneyspendingmoney · 21/05/2019 12:15

5:10 am get up, make bed, check work bag, lay out work clothes, have coffee. Put on wash (clothes or dishes as necessary). Catch up on overnight news (US/Far East) or something else time to myself.
5:40 Get dressed (inc. put away sleep shorts) to
5:50 take dog out for morning walk.
7:00ish (+- 10 mins) make breakfast and prep lunches, wake children demand they get up and dressed. Depending on what needs to be done; put out wash, or out away dried wash, dishes away or vacuum, pick up children's stuff, check things for the day, sports kit and homework, work emails.
7:20 Critical decision time, depending if a dc is too unwell to go to school or DC's are having breakfast, watching TV or playing Xbox
7:45, pack dcs off to school. Floor walk flat to make sure everything's put away that needs to be put away
7:50 dress for work
8:00 leave for work or start work, if WFH day

Same routine every day from 5:10 to 7am, weekends I walk the dog longer and let the dcs sleep until they naturally wake up. Some days it's earlier if I want to watch a TV show. And once I'm awake I'm awake, never been able to snooze

eeela · 21/05/2019 17:17

Wake up
Teeth/wash face/loo
Have a coffee by myself (outside if I can)
Put a load of washing on and/or empty dishwasher
Go for a short run or walk (20-30 min)
Shower
accidentally wake up DP and annoy him for a bit
Get dressed
Eat breakfast
Do hair/ make up if wearing any
Make bed and tidy bedroom
Make to-do list
Emails
Put washing to dry (if any done)

I do the above every day, sometimes starting at 4.30am, other times at 11am (Self employed). I have to have a routine otherwise I feel very flustered in the morning and very anxious at night. It takes me about 2 hours, can be faster if I rush (but I don't like to) or slower if I've got a slow morning.

kaytee87 · 21/05/2019 17:32

7.00am Up, give toddler breakfast & have a cup of tea then clean up / make bed etc.
8.00am Shower etc while toddler watches tv or plays in playroom
8.45am Get toddler cleaned up, teeth brushed & dressed
9.15am/9.30am Gran/Granny collects DS while I go to work or DS and I go out somewhere together

Once a week on a Friday DH takes DS to nursery at 7.30am and I maybe change the beds that morning or watch a bit of tv before leaving for work at 9.30am.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 21/05/2019 17:38

Up at 6.30, quick wee then downstairs to make a cuppa while DH has a shower. Back upstairs and sit on bed with tea waiting my turn in shower.

Shower, face, dress, hair etc takes about 20 minutes. DH gets DS up on his way downstairs. I get downstairs just before DH heads out the door.
Empty the dishwasher, part reload the dishwasher. Shout at DS to make sure he hasn’t gone back to sleep and head out just about an hour after getting up.

DS texts me while I’m on my way to work to let me know he is leaving for school.

I get to work at least half an hour before my start time and have breakfast there.

qj17 · 21/05/2019 17:42

I have the bare minimum of time in the morning and that's how I prefer it... more time to sleep.
Up at 6.38am (specific odd numbers seem to work for me) I never snooze always get straight up, shower makeup hair clothes. Grab lunch I made night before and out of house for 7.10am. Start work at 7.30am.

IABUQueen · 21/05/2019 17:48

6.38 Grin I’m gonna try that !

namechangedforthis1980 · 21/05/2019 17:53

DH gets up at 6.40
I get up at 6.50
DS1 gets up at 7am- quick wash/shower, get dressed, grabs a tiny breakfast then out the door at 7.20 for the school bus

DS2 gets up at 7.30. He has to eat, get washed and dressed by 8.20. In the meantime I'm doing his pack lunch and having a coffee.

Send him out the door when his friend knocks, then I start my day. Usually by having breakfast! Find it so much more leisurely now there's no school run to do
