ASMR

What the fuck is this horror?

I've just had gogglebox from last week (I think) on in the background and it caught my attention when noises which put me on edge started coming through. They mentioned asmr??? I've never heard of it before and after googling it I am horrified!

Weird creepy whispering and cringing and horrible mouth noises. Scrunching and rattling and all sorts of crazy shit done really close to a microphone! Why on earth would anyone think that is a good thing?
It's literally a collection of all sounds which make me want to scream and stab somebody. I could feel my blood pressure rising just looking up what it was.

It's just a physical reaction, I think you either get it or you don't. And if you don't then it's going to seem really really weird.

Most of the whispering ones do nothing for me and the wet mouth sounds stuff is horrible. But I've always zoned out when there's quiet background noises like typing, writing with pencil in exams, turning pages, stuff like that.

WhispersRed is fab, she's just like a really lovely friend (and originally from my town I believe). She did a 'Barb Ross' video which was genius and had me howling with laughter. Adore Ephemeral Rift, though sometimes I'm laughing too much to fully relax and Phoenician Sailor does the most incredible videos - ASMR or not he should make Hollywood movies (and he is incredibly handsome too Blush).

All the ones I have listened to out of curiosity after reading an article on ASMR have made me feel irritable and anxious. I do have an issue with hyperacusis though which becomes quite pronounced when I am tired or feeling tense anyway - which are probably the times that you'd employ these videos to produce ASMR.

I like the rug washing videos, especially when they bring out the scrapey thing and scrape the water away... swoosh goes the soapy water, then scrub scrub scrub and finally scrapey scrapey - aaah!
But I showed them to a friend and he just didn't get it!

So they are a personal thing.
I bet there's food that you hate that other people love too...

Even her recent one with her newborn routine was relaxing

Yes! Gentlewhispering is fab and her new baby is adorable. That video wasn't even supposed to be ASMR but was so relaxing. She's in a league of her own IMO.

Also love Isabel Imagination, Love Today, Albinwhisperland and Itsblitzz. Soft spoken women's voices with massage, book reading/ tapping and show and tell type videos are my favourite.

I'm dyspraxic and have sensory processing issues and AMSR makes me want to peel my skin off

The ASMR that is seen on youtube is only one very specific kind of ASMR. I get misophonia rage when I hear the whispering and weird mouth noises that people assume all ASMR is , but other sounds like something being tapped bliss me out completely.

I don't like a lot of the noise ones, the tapping nails, rubbing bristles of brushes etc, but I love the hair brushing ones, the scalp massages, hand massages. I also really like ones of people doing mundane things like cleaning, folding things, reading, painting.

There was a woman who did some lovely videos a few years ago, I can't remember her name, but she had long brown hair and huge brown eyes. She was from the US not sure where.

I shall have a look for the origami one, and the ear massage one too.

It's not just a case of not liking it though. My husband's food tastes are very different to mine and even things like smelly kippers which make me heave don't give me rage. The noises I heard on the video make me incredibly angry and full of rage. It could genuinely be used to torture me.

I am funny with noises anyway and can only just bear eating with others if there is enough background noise to mask the eating noises.
