Anyone have a recliner sofa? Would I regret it?

2 piece needs replacing. We watch a lot of films and I have a bad back and end up using a foot stool as I can’t curl my legs up and want to be comfy. It will be fabric, I see there’s not much of a selection with recliners. My friend has one passed down to here and when I go there I love it pulling the legs out and getting comfy. Would I regret having one myself? What are the cons other than having to keep putting it up and down?

I have recliner armchairs and they are SO comfortable. I agree it limits choice massively but ultimately you need to be comfortable - that's more important than style. Constantly twisting your legs to the side is not good for your back and takes up another place someone could sit.

Could you get one recliner armchair and a regular sofa? They don't need to match.

Thanks for replying. I don’t have room for an arm chair aswell as a 2 seater and a 3 seater. I wouldn’t want to get rid of either of the sofas either. I’d never get a look in if I only had the armchair as recliner

I’d recommend an electric recliner so you can adjust your position slightly for comfort (and sit yourself up!)

DM has a semi L shaped sofa with a reclining armchair in her small sitting room, it looks lovely and the 'L' is more like a normal straight sofa with an extension for the feet where one person sits if that makes sense? It's so comfy and actually looks very stylish despite being leather imo

My friend has one, and it's fab. I honestly can't think of any negatives other than choice really.

I've got one, love it (went mad and got the electric version)

Only problem is am tall though so my feet hang off the end 🙄🙄🙄

So when I'm on my own, I recline the opposite side and put my feet on that!

Ha I’m a short arse so my feet won’t hang over the edge although will probably swing like a kid when I’m sat upright.

I live in rented and don’t want to buy a sofa that fits in my current front room which is big. I would love an L shape one but every house Iv lived in apart from this one wouldn’t fit an L shape due to size or layout of doors etc.

Interesting, I didn’t realise you could adjust how far it comes out with an electric recliner but makes sense. Iv only been on one with the loud annoying pulley thing ...

I have a La-z-boy electric reclining sofa and love it. My side is always reclined and DH rarely reclines his side. It is so comfortable

Woah!! Looking at one on furniture village and it’s an EXTRA £820 for the electric recliner!

The only downside I can offer is that moving them is a total and utter pain in the hole!

They’re much heavier than a regular sofa so if you’re moving house in the foreseeable you’ll need some heavies to wrangle it (bitter experience of helping friend move to 2nd floor flat with no lift. Yes we did the classic PIVOT!).

Apart from that they’re fab.

I've got a recliner sofa, they're amazingly comfortable. The only con I can think of is the weight of them if you'd have to move them.

There is a possibility we may move this year and Iv already decided that I will be saving for professionals so that moving them won’t be my problem!

Any brand that is decent quality particularly? My current sofa Is furniture village and I’m not happy as it hasn’t lasted very long at all, the last one before which was also FV lasted years. I always thought paying more was worth it for sofas.... current set was £3k so I’m it so sure!

We have electric recliner chair and one manual recliner. Manual has set levels so isnt as flexible but cheaper and doesn't need access to power. Electric far more flexible where it stops but it decides when the back reclines (part way through the foot recline) so in that case its not flexible.

I love them. The electrics mine! Manual we bought s its on the other side of the room and there no real power point. But we saved £100 by having it.

Overall, with a electric recliner 3 seat sofa too, in decent leather, from Fairway Furniture about 4 years ago, we paid £3.5k

We have one similar to this one and we love it, we have had it 2 years and it is one of the best things we have bought.

pros

• reclines nicely at the touch of a button and you can stop it wherever you want
• also has USB charger next to the reclining buttons

cons

• heavy to move
• you have to un-recline to get up out of the sofa/chair
• seats aren't as deep as our old sofa. DH and I used to be able to snuggle up much better on the old sofa

I preferred our old sofa, but it had got past it really, sadly.

Yes it’s fab, I love having my feet up so it’s perfect. The armchair is also a rocker when not reclined which is great for lulling the baby to sleep.
My only complaint is that it isn’t very attractive.

Timely thread! DH has been eyeing up some recliner sofas for a while and is now trying to sell the idea to me😀

My only concern is that once I'm reclined that'll be it for me and I'll get nothing done!

OP I have 2 reclining chairs, 1 electric dual motor (so back and foot recline independently) and 1 that is a manual recliner but has heat and massage as I also have a bad back. I find the manual very painful to push back and sit back up, so while the heat/massage is beneficial, I don't often use it.

I would suggest trying out both the manual and electric

I do like mine. Curved corner sofa with end seats that recline. I'd definitely go with electric.

We have my deceased parents two electric recliner arm chairs (think of the old people on adverts in between old ITV Drama programmes but less floral) I think my brothers thought we were mad having them after DDad passed away but they are sooo comfy. I love them. They do make it a lot more difficult to get up and do jobs though.

Yes I find the manual one of my fiends quite hard to get off as have to use all my weight through my legs to try to push hard to get it in! How fragile are the electric ones? What would happen if say dc sat on the foot bit whilst it was up? Not that I will let them of course.

I hated the idea, DH convinced me, love them now. We got 2x 3 seater, only the outer seats recline and the seats are modular so could reduce to a 2 if house too small. From SCS in Kidderminster but they're online too I think. Only downside is leather is formed leather and not that hard wearing. Seat and recliner mechs are really comfortable though. Got leather effect because baby vom wipes off easier!

I love mine only problem is that it’s manual and you have to shove the footrest down hard to make it go back in and it makes really loud clunk that wakes any sleeping babies in the vicinity.

We’ve got a 3 seater where the 2 outer seats recline & a 2 seater wher both recline - were expensive but worth every penny as so comfy! Took us a lot of searching to find the right sofas though.

We’ve got a 3 seater from Harvey’s and it’s brilliant. Electric recliner at either end and pocket sprung under the foam so super super comfy. We’ve had it 4 years now and still looks like new (despite me pretty much never cleaning it!). Ours comes apart into 2 pieces (1+2) so easier to move than one solid piece, heavy but not the end of the world!
