Anyone have a recliner sofa? Would I regret it?

2 piece needs replacing. We watch a lot of films and I have a bad back and end up using a foot stool as I can’t curl my legs up and want to be comfy. It will be fabric, I see there’s not much of a selection with recliners. My friend has one passed down to here and when I go there I love it pulling the legs out and getting comfy. Would I regret having one myself? What are the cons other than having to keep putting it up and down?

We have a recliner sofa and a reclining chair. I always use them. DS has a lazy boy chair in the homework/office room. They are better for your back. But they are blooming heavy.

I've had two previously...first was manual, fabric, second one was leather and electric.

The latter is 8 years old and still going strong in XH's home!

In some ways I preferred the manual as I liked being able to just whack the footrest down and jump up ie if the doorbell rang or DD called for me.

The leather one was from DFS. I think a people can be a bit snobby about them as a company but we found them to be brilliant, in terms of product, customer service and aftercare - really couldn't fault them at all.

Definitely get fabric...I found I used to slip down the leather one a bit.

The fabric one was bit hideous (gift from ex MIL...long story!) but it was definitely more comfy.

The back reclines in mine but we don't need to move it away from the wall. The armchair we had you did though.
I agree furniture village aren't great quality. We've had no issues with DFS sofas, or for better quality Harvey's are good.

Thanks, as I said I always have got FV ones as they lasted but my current one is only 3 years old and virtually threadbare and my dc are almost all teens so hardly had little ones up and down with shoes on. Not impressed!

I brought my electric recliners from Furniture Village, no end of problems, uncomfortable,motor issues, definitely wouldn’t recommend. Based on our experience whatyou see in the showroom may not be the quality you get on delivery.

That is what my armchairs do inbed and they are amazingly comfy but I do have plenty of room for them to be well away from the walls.

That's less easy to accommodate with a sofa than a chair. And the footstool part only comes fully up the further back you go, as they don't operate independently.

Yes ellen!!! This was a concern of mine but no one has mentioned that as a con.... my friends one literally the whole thing moves and you’re almost laying horizontally, it’s amazing BUT a bitch to get it back in before you get up and I couldn’t be dealing with that, although hers is very old.

Us , 3 seater with the outer 2 that recline and is electric.
2 single recliners as well.
Love them and wouldn’t change.

Just remember that if it reclines at the back you'll need to pull the whole thing quite far forward into the room or it won't work. Make sure you have space to do that. You don't to be having to move your whole sofa back and forward every day.

Thanks all. So Iv it’s electric the back doesn’t recline? I’d like to be able to sit across it aswell as sit normally. My current 2 seater is just wide enough for me to as I’m a short arse! There a sales on this weekend any of the main shops better than others for quality?

I love them and can't think of a negative, as others have said the electric ones are great but we couldn't justify the extra cost as I doubt I'd ever want my legs half way reclined, it's all or nothing for me!

Our old sofa was the length of a 3 seater but was a 2 seater, i really liked the fact you could recline both sides so I could sit diagonally if I wanted to, the one we have now is divided into 3 and the middle section doesn't recline so I have to sit with my legs forward or twist 90°.
I'll definitely go back to a large 2 seater next time.

We have an L-shaped sofa with a recliner at either end. Best sofa we've ever bought. We have no other furniture in the living room apart from a couple of cupboards. We all love it. So comfortable and you can lie on the recliners or just across the sofa itself.

I've had a couple of sofa disasters in my time. The 3-piece that just didn't suit the living room and took up loads of room; the 2x 2-seaters and armchair that no one could recline on. The recliner is just fabulous; our whole family agrees.

We are on our third (manual) recliner. Love them and it's hard to go back to normal once you're used to reclining.
The only negative we have found is the reclining seats can start to sag a little.

Got 2 electric lazy boys. I've got arthritis of the hip and lower spine so can't curl up to get comfy. Electric is great coz you can make tiny adjustments to the angles.

My in laws have one and it's the most uncomfortable sofa I've ever sat on.

I had my heart set on a recliner. But found a small corner sofa instead. So I feel like I'm on a chaise lounge and don't struggle to get up so much

We have a leather recliner sofa (manual) it's very comfortable. Next time we get a new sofa we would plump for an electric one and check where the stitching was on the recliner. The one we have at the moment has stitching about 8inches each side.

We have a recliner and will never buy another non-reclining sofa again, I love it! It's well worth spending a bit extra for an electric one though!

We’ve got a 3 seater from Harvey’s and it’s brilliant. Electric recliner at either end and pocket sprung under the foam so super super comfy. We’ve had it 4 years now and still looks like new (despite me pretty much never cleaning it!). Ours comes apart into 2 pieces (1+2) so easier to move than one solid piece, heavy but not the end of the world!

We’ve got a 3 seater where the 2 outer seats recline & a 2 seater wher both recline - were expensive but worth every penny as so comfy! Took us a lot of searching to find the right sofas though.

I love mine only problem is that it’s manual and you have to shove the footrest down hard to make it go back in and it makes really loud clunk that wakes any sleeping babies in the vicinity.

I hated the idea, DH convinced me, love them now. We got 2x 3 seater, only the outer seats recline and the seats are modular so could reduce to a 2 if house too small. From SCS in Kidderminster but they're online too I think. Only downside is leather is formed leather and not that hard wearing. Seat and recliner mechs are really comfortable though. Got leather effect because baby vom wipes off easier!

Yes I find the manual one of my fiends quite hard to get off as have to use all my weight through my legs to try to push hard to get it in! How fragile are the electric ones? What would happen if say dc sat on the foot bit whilst it was up? Not that I will let them of course.
