I have the chance of a new job but it's shifts and I'd start sometimes at 6am would need to get up before 5am which I've never done and frankly don't fancy at all
I'm mid 50s
When do you get up when you're working?

An interesting question would also be: "what time do you go to bed?".

I assume many on here would have to keep primary school aged kids' hours to get up that early!

DuffBeer · 01/03/2019 13:30

Mine is variable. There are days that I get up at 5am (which I hate) and other days 9.30. I'm very good at maximising sleep and getting up, dressed and out of the house in about 20 mins!

madvixen · 01/03/2019 13:31

I go to bed at 8pm and am usually asleep by 9.
The 4am works for me, it means that I'm guaranteed a seat on the train, get lots of work done in the mornings (when I'm more effective) and get home by 5:30 in the evening.

Up at 5:30, out the door with 2dcs by 7, at my desk by 7:30.

boxlikeamarchhare · 01/03/2019 14:23

miljah, bed at 10:30 at the latest for me during the week. At the weekends I get up and feed the dog, let her out by 7am and then go back to bed with coffee until 8:30-9:00 if I can.

boxlikeamarchhare · 01/03/2019 14:24

So seven hours sleep max (I never sleep through the night and wake at 2am, often still awake at 4am).

My alarm goes off at 6.30; for the past few weeks I've just being going "feck it" and repeatedly pressing snooze until 7.15. I really need to get back in the habit of getting up when the bastard thing first goes off.

Mabelface · 01/03/2019 15:33

5.15am. Leave at 6.30 after coffee and coming to, train and tram and at my desk just after 8. Home by 6.20, asleep before 9.30. Permatired.

DeadCertain · 01/03/2019 15:48

@Miljah to be up at 0300 I am generally in bed for 2130 and asleep by 2200 if I can. A few days per week I grab an hour or ninety minutes in the afternoon too if I have time. I am looking forward to getting up at 0500 ish for my new job but quite honestly really do function very well with early mornings - I am much, much more "early bird" than "night owl". My husband on the other hand despises early mornings (luckily for him he has very few!!) and functions much better later.

Jellyfloodagain · 01/03/2019 15:50

My hours vary but if I'm on an early then my alarm goes off at 4am and I leave at 4.45 and am in work for 5.00.

LimaRednot · 01/03/2019 15:55

I get up at 5.30 and do the general tidy up, prep dinner/lunch/pack bags/washing machine on/tumble dryer/dishwasher emptied etc and do a 20 minutes exercise.
Get the kids up by 7. Brush teeth/feed breakfast/get them ready. Leave home by 8.45 to drop toddler at nursery for 9. Walk to the station, catch the train to London. Start work at 10 and finish by 4. Home by 4.45 pm but I tend to walk to the station to get home by 5.10 instead. Dinner/bath/tidy up/stories etc and on bed by 8/8.30 pm. I am a bit more relaxed on the weekend and Friday night. But this works well during the week. I was lucky to negotiate my full time salary on reduced hours before I went back to work after my second maternity leave and my employers are family orientated and flexible.

5.30, with a long commute so I don't potter, just shower, dry hair, get dressed and go. I work part time which makes it more manageable now we have children, I couldn't still do it f/t with little ones personally, I'm not made of strong enough stuff! I get 7 hours of sleep which is fine. Still rubbish in winter though when it's so dark.

Realitea · 01/03/2019 17:25

I wake up at 6.30 to be out for 8.30. Get to the school then start at 9. I do quite a bit of housework before I go and like the quietness of the morning. I’m definitely a morning person!

Dowser · 01/03/2019 18:56

Night owl here..I’m heading to bed at 1am when some of you are in your last sleep before the alarm
Fortunately I don’t have to be up early

Cerealkillers · 01/03/2019 19:13

Up at 4.30am for a 6am start, permanently knackered though. Get home at around 4.30pm in bed by 8.30/9pm. I do get to do 6 hour days throughout July & the holidays are good. I just have to convince myself it’s worth feeling like crap the rest of the year.
