Bedtime songs you sing

MiddleClassProblem · 26/02/2019 22:50

We like to songs to DD at bedtime. Some of the classics like Twinkle Twinkle but also a variety of pop (etc) songs.

DD is always asking us for new ones and we’re running low on what to sing. What do you sing to your kids? We need inspiration!

Bella Notte from Lady and the Tramp, and others that were already mentioned.

JasonGideon · 02/03/2019 07:00

Dear Thedosia from Hamilton
Skye Boat Song
The New Girl theme song

But mainly made up songs using her name and nickname!

JasonGideon · 02/03/2019 07:05

Just seen The Skye Boat song is a real song so to clarify I only know the Outland theme and now feel very uncultured

I used to sing Annie's Song, Bed of Roses, Love of my Life and Hallelujah. Ds3 hates being sung to and ds2 is too old to want singing bedtimes though so it's ages since I did.

MrsSquidney · 02/03/2019 10:05

We do
I only want to be with you (the slow one from the dogs trust advert Blush)
You are my sunshine

Witchend · 02/03/2019 10:11

Maybe because I'm a Londoner
Zipperde do da
My Ole Man said Follow the van
Daisy Daisy
I want to go home
Maybe (from Annie)
Candle on the Water
You're never fully dressed without a smile
Goodnight children everywhere
On a wonderful day like today
Bear Necessities
When the Saints
Sing a Happy Song with me
Transport of delight
Run rabbit run
Kiss me goodnight Sergeant Major
They were only playing leapfrog
5 little speckled frogs
Head shoulders knees and toes
Grand old duke of York
I do like to be beside the seaside
Knees up Mother Brown
Pack up your Troubles
It's a long way to Tipperary
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye

Lots of Beatles songs (Golden Slumbers and Blackbird)
Bowie (particularly Little Drummer Boy as soon as it gets near to Christmas - the DC are always Bowie and I'm always Bing)
Motown songs (especially Up On The Roof and Under The Boardwalk)
Roy Orbison You Got It
Anything from Les Mis, but especially Master Of The House (because we can say "comforter, philosopher, lifelong shit" without the DC being told off for profanity) and Do You Hear The People Sing, because you can really belt it out.

My favourite ones are hymns, though, especially Jerusalem and Abide With Me. My Grandma and Grandad used to let me stay over when I was young quite often and whichever one tucked me in, they'd always sing one of those. Abide With Me was always my Grandad's song and hearing my DC sing it makes my heart happy in ways I can't explain.

Cheerybigbottom · 02/03/2019 10:16

We also sing blackbird as ds saw the parents in the boss baby movie sing it Blush

Also hushabye mountain, skinny malinky long legs, Coulter's candy, wee Wullie winky, somewhere over the rainbow (Ukelele version) and sometimes minecraft songs like don't mine at night or songs he loves like bohemian rhapsody or something from Muse 😆

UrbaneSprawl · 02/03/2019 10:16
has always been a popular choice in our family.

I also remember singing Morningtown Ride, The Flower of Northumberland, and Nana was a Suffragette when DS was little.

Musicalmistress · 02/03/2019 12:14

Goodnight my someone from The Music Man musical - changed the words to Goodnight my darling. She still likes it now if she’s feeling ill, she’s 12

Mine used to like:

She Moved Through The Fair
Little Hercules
A Whole New World

Colours of the Wind

From A Distance
I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles
Room on the Third Floor
Bad Day
Anywhere for You
To Make You Feel my Love

Mmmhmmokdear · 02/03/2019 18:32

Hey Mr Tambourine Man is also a favourite.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 02/03/2019 18:42

When DC was a tiny baby....I'd hum the themesong to Stargate SG1. And hush little baby. Now if I sing the eyes ping open and I get a quizzical "mummy what on earth are you doing some of us are trying to sleep" look.

AveEldon · 02/03/2019 18:48

My mum always sings Hit The Road To Dreamland by Dean Martin

MiddleClassProblem · 02/03/2019 19:46

My husband does the singing at bedtime. He sings:

The Manchester Rambler
Solidarity forever
The Red Flag (my boy calls it "scarlet stannet high")
Oranges and Lemons
London Bridge is Falling Down
Mary Mary Quite Contrary
Ding Dong Bell
The Internationale
The Diggers Song
We're Going To Roll the Union On

His favourite changes, but when he was a baby, my husband didn't know what to sing so I told him to sing something he liked. He looked the words up on the internet.

NecklessMumster · 02/03/2019 20:15

Used to sing:
Morningtown ride
Skye Boat song
Close to you (Carpenters)
You are my sunshine

wheresmyhairytoe · 02/03/2019 21:22

She's fine thank you, girl dramas, Fallings out etc etc...
