TK Maxx

A massive TK Maxx has just opened near me. I've never been to one before, is it worth a visit?

What sorts of things can I get? Are they really cheaper?
Any things I should definitely get?

It's hit and miss and you have to be prepared to rummage!!

I think it's great for gym gear - got some really good fleece lined leggings there recently. Also for homewares like kitchen stuff, candles, bedding.

BearSoFair · 10/02/2019 09:32

It varies massively store to store. Our most local branch looks like a jumble sale, nothing seems to be in any kind of order, just thrown out wherever there's space. But the one half an hour away is fab, just in the last couple of weeks I've got a belt, bag, jumper, and socks in there.

fourquenelles · 10/02/2019 09:37

I get my jersey tops from their Plus woman rails. Long lasting and wash well.

I also buy random shit when I see it - I have a golden flamingo in my bathroom, a wooden fox head plant pot in my kitchen and "Neville" the Christmas soldier who is on parade all year round in my dining room. You do have to buy it when you see it though.

Dog beds and crate mats are great value too.

We have a TK Max and a Home (No) Sense as we call it. We often visit just to gawp at the amazingly hideous ornaments. The Christmas decs are epic.
Saying that, I rarely come out without something. Yesterday’s haul was gorgeous rose scented soap, a mini dustpan and brush and a spatula.

madeyemoodysmum · 10/02/2019 09:45

I like getting little bits for house

Kitchen wear. Towels. Nice candles etc
Shoes are good too.

I never go in there expecting them to have something though. It’s very hit and miss.

I was in yesterday and got a travel pillow for £5. My dh got a really nice expensive wool:cashmere jumper for £20

Sexnotgender · 10/02/2019 10:51

Oh yes and shoes! My husband got a pair of lovely Barbour boots and kurt Geiger boots, £100 for both pairs.

EmpressJewel · 10/02/2019 11:17

My best bargains in 2018:

Tights - falke and wolford for £6 compared to £15 in other stores.

Shoes - French sole ballet flats for £30, compared to £100+ on the French sole website,

Lipstick queen - lipsticks for £6 compared to £20 in Space NK.

Much of TK Maxx is crap, but there are some hidden gems. As per a previous poster, I take my phone with me and google the brands and prices.

EmpressJewel · 10/02/2019 11:24

Ooo, I forgot to mention my most recent bargain.

I wanted a Wet Brush hair brush, which were selling in boots and amazon for £10. I found them in TK Maxx for £4 few weeks ago.

FamilyOfAliens · 10/02/2019 11:25

Saucepans and frying pans.

Fitted sheets (deeper size)

Specialists foodstuffs for stocking fillers

Designer tights

Italian soaps

FamilyOfAliens · 10/02/2019 11:25

In my local branch a lot of the makeup has been opened and some even tried out 🤢

ABigBraclet · 10/02/2019 11:27

sagradafamiliar ooh lovely stuff, you've given me some great pointers.

Thesuzle · 10/02/2019 11:28

Hi
I would say if you see something u like then buy all the bits there that you can because you will never really be able to go back and find much that matches,

didireallysaythat · 10/02/2019 11:39

I buy off their website - less of the jumble sale feeling, plus I can't be bothered to drive for 30 mins, pay £5 to park and then not find anything I want ...

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 10/02/2019 11:45

I rarely get anything from there but I'm not into brands and don't recognise 90% of the names in there.

I've had a few party dresses for dd's and recently got a coat out of the clearance section.

lettymoo · 10/02/2019 11:47

It's always worth a look although whether you find anything good seems to vary from day to day. It's great for things you're not too specific about like coats and jumpers - you can find good quality ones at good prices. I like it for homewares and toiletries too. The only thing I don't personally find ever very good is the shoe selection

lettymoo · 10/02/2019 11:48

Also meant to say it's great for things like duvets as well

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 10/02/2019 11:52

I used to work in their supply chain, and the sourcing works a bit like this: end of line, then discounted bulk buy, then closure of business. I well remember running up and down three flights of stairs carrying boxes of handmade silk negligees, as the manufacturer's bump meant she couldn't do it herself. As for getting the artic into Maida Vale, the less said the better. Some of the other suppliers are more stable, although the access to Gurteen (damn fine trousers) is a thing of horror.

Basically, go regularly, keep an open mind.

Dowser · 10/02/2019 13:02

I get my faith in nature shampoo there
Much cheaper

Hushnownobodycares · 10/02/2019 13:22

Saw some Skechers sports socks in there for £6 a pack. They were £12 a pack in the official Skechers shop up the street.

Talk about hot footing it back Grin

TheNoodlesIncident · 10/02/2019 14:55

I love TK Maxx, it's my happy place. I really enjoy going in just to browse, it's even better if I find stuff I want!

I live near a big town and a city, the branch in the small town is actually bigger and better, although naturally I'll go to both. I try to pop in whenever I can to be honest because as PPs have pointed out, the range of stuff available changes so often and there is little that is consistently in stock. So I go when I can and stock up on my favourite things, like the Italian soaps someone mentioned. (They smell gorgeous, scent the bathroom while they last and actually last for ages.)

fussychica · 10/02/2019 15:46

Not a big fan to be honest but I'm not into designer stuff. However, the absolute best thing I ever purchased in there was a couple of Calvin Klein Leaf candles. Best candles I have ever had, unfortunately discontinued at any priceSad
