TK Maxx

A massive TK Maxx has just opened near me. I've never been to one before, is it worth a visit?

What sorts of things can I get? Are they really cheaper?
Any things I should definitely get?

Oooh you should definitely go, tk maxx is one of my favourite places to go for a browse. They do nice photo frames, glass ornaments, candles and homey bits though you sometimes have to have more than one trip to find something you like. They do a great range of baby blankets and sometimes have good changing bags such as pink lining bags. I’ve had lots of jellycat soft toys from here too, and lovely books - the children’s books are usually much cheaper. Have fun!

Happilyacceptingcookies · 09/02/2019 16:31

If you see something you like but still unsure, just buy it and then think and return it if necessary. It won't still be there in a few days time/you won't be able to locate it.

I love TK Maxx, half my house is from there. It used to be better than it is now, especially the clothing. I bought a very beautiful cushion in there today. I love the craft and home section the most. To find the best things you need to go I regularly and its best if you don't have a set idea about what you are looking for.

So the best thing is the bedsheets look for the highest thread count.
The sports bras are great value good brands.
Towels the hotel brand is the best.
The handbags can be great and the toiletries

Sexnotgender · 09/02/2019 16:33

LOVE TK Maxx.

The homeware is great, I’ve got loads of Sophie Conran and le creuset stuff for great prices there.

NashvilleQueen · 09/02/2019 16:34

I absolutely love it.

blibblibs · 09/02/2019 16:38

No one has mentioned the shoes! I hardly ever walk out of there without some kind of footwear.

junebirthdaygirl · 09/02/2019 16:44

I think it takes a while to get used to TKMaxx so don't be disappointed if you come out empty handed. Go again! I get lovely jumpers for 12 pounds which wash well and are really good stuff. Also good for teen hoodie/ tshirts but have to search and find. Might have one guys jacket reduced 200 to 45 but if its in size you want great. Good for skinny people and outsize as often whats left. My dd does brilliantly with dresses and jeans.
Nice candles/ frames/ cushions. Its like an upmarket jumble sale.

@ABigBraclet I'm no beauty guru but generally speaking anything with retinol in it, snap it up. Holy grail. Same with glycolic acid in my experience. So serums, masks, resurfacing toners/presoaked pads (rodial, nip and fab, Alpha H do good ones), overnight creams containing these.
I just use eye creams and moisturisers to give my skin a bit of extra comfort and added sunscreen so whichever brand you like the smell of/look of will do as they work on a more basic level anyway.
Sorry I can't be more helpful, as I say I don't particularly know my stuff but TKMaxx is definitely an Aladdin's cave of beauty bargains so is worth a browse.

pembs · 09/02/2019 17:38

Not over keen personally. An expensive jumble sale. Very occasionally you find something good but not if you're looking for something in particular

LikeACowsOpinion · 09/02/2019 18:20

I didn't have much luck today. The place was absolutely crammed and everything was everywhere, didn't even get a chance to browse properly.
The crowds were worse than Primark!

Am going back on Monday morning, first thing.

I did see some huge bottles of BedHead though, that's a good sign for me!

I love Tkmaxx! We have a new 2 storey one in our city, a huge improvement on the small jumble sale branch that was there before.

My most recent bargain was some new bedding, including 1000 thread count bed sheets that are like luxury hotel sheets. I don't buy the womens clothes as they rarely have my size but the children's clothes usually have some decent finds. I do find a lot of the designer children's clothes quite tacky though so you do have to sift through.

Their homeware department is great though, my go to place for picture frames, candles and Reed diffusers

EyUpOurKid · 09/02/2019 21:35

For me, Tk Maxx is like an Aladins cave of shit you didn't know you wanted but now you've seen exist, you desperately need. Imagine the middle aisle of Aldi, but on steroids.

I would suggest you join the ‘TK Maxx gallery of horrors’ group on Facebook. You’ll get lots of inspiration 😃!

Crab bells Grin

BerylStreep · 09/02/2019 21:54

They used to be great for ski gear, but not so much now. I still regret not buying the pucci ski 2 piece about 10 years ago.

caffeinebuzz · 09/02/2019 21:54

The clothes aren't as good as they used to be but still brilliant for homeware and baby /kids stuff.

NotMeNoNo · 09/02/2019 21:57

Great for household stuff. Worth a rummage for clothes but quite seasonal - I got some good gym wear and a yoga mat last month for instance.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/02/2019 22:17

We used to have a HomeSense but now its moved into the TKMaxx Sad

HomeSense was gorgeous, things were set out really well , changed almost daily. There wasn't a feeling of "Well that's the last of the random tat all on a shelf"
It was more "There's only one of this , one in store . Very exclusive " type feel. And yes , if I went off and thought about it for a couple of days , it would be gone.

I don't buy clothes there , I really CBA searching. Even searching for some branded underwear for DS , trying to sort through the sizes , some boxes were open, the prices were Seriously ? (the RRP were a laugh)

A lot of the Beauty products looked very tired and some I knew the prices of , not any sort of bargain.

But household things...... especially seasonal . They are in very early (I reckon all the Easter things now) brilliant . I have had some amazing Christmas crockery and Hallowe'en decorations

DontCallMeCharlotte · 09/02/2019 22:25

Er, handbags people, handbags!

AlanThePig · 09/02/2019 22:49

Crab bells, moist mugs and no regerts mugs
Oh, and Alan 😉

Excited101 · 10/02/2019 00:08

The bedding section is leathal! And I’ve had my last 2 winter coats from there, both have been and are awesome! I love their homewear section and their pet beds are gorgeous. So much lovely stuff...

Wendywoo1000 · 10/02/2019 07:50

Its like one big jumble sale. Never a selection of sizes just one of each clothing. Worth a visit just to mooch but likely to leave empty handed.

WholeL0ttaRosie · 10/02/2019 08:42

Everything except clothes (can't be bothered to rummage)
I love the soap, homeware, stationery, socks. Oh and food, great for odd bars of chocolate or random American cake mixes.
Ours has had some really nice bathroom stuff lately plus loads of JosephJoseph kitchen bits.

Deathraystare · 10/02/2019 09:18

Not as great for larger sized fashion (though in the past I got 3 pair of patterned jeans - Ralph Lauren.

I normally buy handbags (sometimes have Osprey, Kipling, Lulu Guinness.

I also buy some bedding and house ware stuff. They have perfumes, make up and bath stuff, loads of hair stuff too, but the make up is normally in a manky state, opened and half removed!

Shoes too.

My ex flat mate bought some ski gear there. I have been quite happy with their shapewear.
