And praise the Lord, January is over

Is anyone just so relieved this bloody month is done?

Ran out of money about a week ago, living off freezer delights. Having darn a massive hole in DD’s one remaining pair of school tights, but they still look ridiculous. DS’s birthday and the guilt that a January birthday is never as good as a July birthday. Endless requests for money from the school. Constant rain, no tumble dryer so trying to dry washing has been horrendous. Freezing and the battle between being cold and paying another enormous bill.

I feel absolutely exhausted with it all. I feel like now I can breathe for a few days, but then it all just begins again.

You're a day early

DonutCone · 31/01/2019 09:16

Well I meant that’s it’s January payday today. But thanks.

TwitterQueen1 · 31/01/2019 09:17

yep - too soon OP

ShatnersWig · 31/01/2019 09:17

Don't most people get paid on the last Friday of each month, which would have been last Friday?

Sorry OP, I'm bored at work Grin

DonutCone · 31/01/2019 09:19

Last working day here. I thought that was the norm?!

ShatnersWig · 31/01/2019 09:25

Well I get paid weekly these days because of the type of role and flexible hours I do which is always Friday. When I worked in the corporate field it was always last Friday of the month. Oddly enough, I was out with friends last Saturday and they were all saying "thank God it was payday yesterday"

So I do think the norm for monthly salaries to be paid last Friday of the month.

JustAnotherMillennial · 31/01/2019 09:27

Me too OP.

Depressing weather, also been skint (just finishing paying off Christmas, it was also DS2's birthday in December) so finally catching up with the bills, the whole bloody family has been sick with colds at one point this month.

This month has been mega stressful too as we are moving abroad in two weeks and I have had so many loose ends to tie up, packing etc, and Christmas was hard because we are leaving.

DonutCone · 31/01/2019 09:27

That’s interesting. DH has a public sector job and as do nearly all our friends so my view must be based on my small pool then.

Massive global org here - always last working day of the month, ie today.

ShatnersWig · 31/01/2019 09:41

So was mine Twitter

Well, we've all learned something today.

But inescapable fact that unless you are in a different time zone, January is not yet over Wink

CosyToast · 31/01/2019 09:43

I'm with you, I get paid on the last Thursday, January has lasted forever! So ready for some sunshine

hipposarerad · 31/01/2019 09:51

Good old AIBU. There's always someone available to piss on your chips Grin

ShatnersWig · 31/01/2019 09:52

@hipposarered This is Chat, not AIBU Grin

TwitterQueen1 · 31/01/2019 09:55

Thursday? Thursday? Now where is the logic in that? Grin

Megan2018 · 31/01/2019 09:58

Payday for me has always been 25th, or the Friday before it if the 25th is at the weekend.
So I got paid last week and will be back to skint tomorrow as all the Direct Debits come out on the 1st.
I hate January as a month though - partly because of the long gap between paydays, partly the dark and cold.

Feb goes quickly and then it is March which is my favourite!

hipposarerad · 31/01/2019 09:59

Oh yeah, my mistake and I am suitably chastised, thank you.

I find the chip-pissing can filter across many boards though.

I think it could be argued that it's OK to feel happy that January is finished on 31st because after that there's no more January left.

QforCucumber · 31/01/2019 10:02

DH gets paid on the last Thursday of the month (local government) I get paid the 25th, but bloody Xmas both of us were paid a week early as goodwill gestures - nuisances!

ShatnersWig · 31/01/2019 10:16

Of course hippo some think pissing on chips is a good thing. It stops people eating so much fried food which is part of the obesity problem we have Grin

Not you or I personally, of course...

CigarsofthePharoahs · 31/01/2019 10:20

If only January could take the cold snap with it!
February isn't much better, but I hope it is for you op!

TheFaerieQueene · 31/01/2019 10:21

If there was a lord, they wouldn’t have invented bloody January in the first place 😉

Imperfectsusan · 31/01/2019 12:13

There should be a like button for that thread title.

TadaTralala · 31/01/2019 12:24

Amen! bl@@dy hate January.

shutlingsloe · 31/01/2019 12:38

I'm private sector- paid today, dh is public sector - paid on 28th.

OP I totally agree with you!

buckeejit · 31/01/2019 12:54

Yes, it's been going on for about a fucking year. Good bloody riddance!

SagelyNodding · 31/01/2019 12:56

I think we should swap January and February over. A short month to get through after Christmas, then back to business. Grin But I'm glad it's (practically) over, OP
