And praise the Lord, January is over

Is anyone just so relieved this bloody month is done?

Ran out of money about a week ago, living off freezer delights. Having darn a massive hole in DD’s one remaining pair of school tights, but they still look ridiculous. DS’s birthday and the guilt that a January birthday is never as good as a July birthday. Endless requests for money from the school. Constant rain, no tumble dryer so trying to dry washing has been horrendous. Freezing and the battle between being cold and paying another enormous bill.

I feel absolutely exhausted with it all. I feel like now I can breathe for a few days, but then it all just begins again.

yep good riddance!
Incidentally I get paid the day before the end of the month (nhs) and DH gets paid 15th every month

RavenLG · 31/01/2019 13:01

25th pay day here. DP is paid on the 1st of each month randomly.

It's been an extra long pay cycle but somehow we managed to save month this month. Not sure how.

At the risk of being roundly abused for being a Pollyanna- there are some nice things about January! Not a lot, granted, but I’m looking out of the window at a beautifully frosted landscape, there are snowdrops, winter jasmine, scented wallflowers and viburnum in bloom, the daylight is slowly increasing so we now have nine hours a day here in Scotland, there is palpable warmth in the sun when I open the door. The birds are singing their hearts out and looking lovely with their plumage fluffed up for warmth as they squabble on the feeders. The local theatres and concert halls have a good programme of winter events, and the bridge club is in the full swing of its winter tournaments.
The beaches, forests and hills are empty of tourists - ditto the car parks, so I’ve had loads of peaceful walks in glorious fresh air.
And the roads have stayed clear of snow, so I’ve been able to make several 100 mile round trips to see my DDs. Lots to be thankful for!

DollyWilde · 31/01/2019 13:06

I'm paid on the 27th (or 25/26 if 27 is a Saturday or Sunday), as does DH, although I'm moving to a new job (same industry and role) and moving to the 24th from next month.

January does feel like it's been going on forever, but in fairness I've put it down to the fact we have lots of really big exciting plans for later this year (new job, belated honeymoon, TTC) so I sort of just want to crack on with 2019 already!

ButtMuncher · 31/01/2019 13:34

I can't moan at January too much as I was born in January Grin But it does feel extraordinarily long this year Hmm

Imperfectsusan · 31/01/2019 14:06

Babdoc, all good points!

Dowser · 31/01/2019 14:13

Awww...you’ve had a tough time op
I’ve enjoyed it .
We have busy times in the warmer months and I like to retreat into my bear cave in January knowing I’m not missing out

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 31/01/2019 15:41

I got paid today too, thank god!!!! Been skint since Christmas.

PLUS tomorrow after a loooooooooooooong and very boring January, I can drink again. Wine Gin

Can't bloody wait!

With you, OP Flowers

HappyEverIftar · 31/01/2019 16:27

It's been the longest month EVER (or so it feels). Feb tomorrow, so yes, it's over.

VeryFoolishFay · 31/01/2019 16:39

I hate January too.

I work for a seasonal charity and after a lovely autumn pottering round the highways and byways and a manic Christmas, I am stuck for a month working at home on my own, ploughing through boxes and boxes of handwritten accounts produced by volunteers of varying abilities. And whilst the house is glorious in the summer, it's cold and very damp at this time of year.

And it was a very long wait till payday. The nearest weekday before the 24th, if anyone is interested.

And tomorrow it's February and I go very part time for months, but still with the same annualised salary which feels excellent.

Jess74 · 31/01/2019 16:49

I agree OP. I always look forward to February as its only 28 days and then I can tell yself spring is round the corner.

CakeNinja · 31/01/2019 17:33

Payday for me today too, last working day of the month.
It has been the longest January on record Wink
Dc and I are home in front of the fire. Ordering a takeaway tonight and then I will be cursing when I have to go out late and collect dp who has been on a jolly all day.
Although I would really appreciate some snow (sorry!) Grin

Crunchymum · 31/01/2019 18:34

26th of the month here (or Friday before if it falls on a weekend or bank holiday). Medium size, US owned company.

I have 2 January children so 2 bloody birthdays with little money and I'm on zero pay (end of SMP) and DC2 has been ill for most of the month.

Roll on February indeed.

Although it sounds as though the problems are more than it just being January OP

Bananajam · 31/01/2019 18:54

I got paid yesterday (NHS), longest January ever, especially as we last got paid before Christmas! I do not like getting paid early. It was so nice to have a positive balance back in my account. February is ridiculously short in comparison and the days are slowly getting longer Smile

AwkwardPaws27 · 31/01/2019 19:04

You spoke too soon. This bastard of a month is still going strong. I'm on my second cold, and today i have torn a brand new pair of tights and lost the ability to spell. While taking a dictation I repeatedly failed to spell restaurant, in front of my boss, and Word kept helpfully correcting my attempts to "restraint". I have an A in GCSE English.

Fuck January.

Blompitude · 31/01/2019 21:00

I normally like January - new year, resolutions, and also my birthday.
Not this year. It just feels cold, and so dark in the mornings and evenings.
I'm sick of it.
At least a few little shoots are appearing in the garden.
