Positive driving test stories

65 replies

have my test next week and although I enjoy driving the manouevers really stress me out which makes me make stupid mistakes, my nerves get the better of me. I have had 35 hours of lessons and inbetween in my own car with family there's no reason I can't do it but I'm so anxious. Anyone want to share any positive stories with me.

@Lottapianos like the beeping was going to make me go any faster😂😂

I have rebooked, but its a really long way off so hopefully i can get a cancellation in the meantime, im really worried though that its knocked me. Ive been driving in my car since, just went through a set of lights and ambulance was coming round from the opposite so stopped, let the ambulance go through and then had to wait as all other lights were on green and wouldn't of been safe to turn even though i had already gone through the lights. Soon as the lights i was at had gone green the bus behind me started beeping and gesturing. Was so frustrated as there was nothing else i could do but least their insistent beeping didn't make me stall which i think it would have previously.

Just trying to keep practising as much as I can and brushing up on things that i lack confidence in.

These beeping people really need to have a word with themselves. Its really unfair and as you say, you're more likely to stall and cause a worse obstruction if you're a nervous wreck

supermariossister · 29/01/2019 15:10

@chocolatecake08 not till April that was the earliest they had, really hoping I can get a cancellation.

Yep I thought the same too. Full of earache today so quiet day at home.

@supermariossister ah quite a while away then, can you pay a company to search cancellations??

supermariossister · 29/01/2019 17:20

Think I will do as it's impossible to check for cancellations that much yourself, gives me a lot of time to keep building experience but it's a little too long and can see me tailing off and getting worse!

@chocolatecake08 get yourself a new driver sticker for your back window.

Like a baby on board but says new driver please be patient.

Haven't had any beeps since having one of these. People give you bit more room etc.

I'm not a fan of driving now I've passed my test either!

chocolatecake08 · 29/01/2019 18:29

@danni0509

I have two on and i still got beeped at/over took xx

@supermariossister

I had my first test 18th of December and my second one 24th of January so didnt wait to long, i think the second one makes you at ease so much more x

supermariossister · 29/01/2019 18:37

My first was the 24th, so fingers crossed for the next. How is the solo driving going since passing, think that's gonna make me nervy

I passed on my 3rd go. Test 1, I was so nervous I just made too many stupid mistakes. Test 2, I was still really nervous but only ballsed up reversing around a corner (the examiner made me do it up a steep hill, which I think was a bit unfair). Test 3, I was convinced I'd still fail which relaxed me and I drove just fine + the guy was very chatty which helped.

This year I had to take my US driving test- I went with the strategy of just chatting to the officer and passed with only 2 of their minors.

chocolatecake08 · 29/01/2019 21:38

@supermariossister

At first the solo driving filled me with absolute dread and kept having dreams of crashing the car🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️but now im fine and drive happily to most places but i still do stall etc but i think its due to getting used to the car x

Lottapianos · 29/01/2019 21:43

Oh god chocolate, the anxiety dreams! I have dreamt of driving over the edge of a flyover, driving straight into the central part of a roundabout, all sorts Shock

chocolatecake08 · 29/01/2019 21:52

@Lottapianos they make me feel physically sick and i wake up in a panic 🤢🤢 mine are always smashing into parked cars🤢x
