Test drove a Mini Cooper S today. Think I'll purchase tomorrow. Not new, it's ten months old

It's got Union Jack tail lights which in very swayed by Grin

Anyway - before I bite the bullet - do you love your mini and if so, why?

I have a 4 door mini and I live mine! It is my third mini and wouldn't buy anything else!

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 17/01/2019 19:10

Me! 68 plate 5 door mini cooper 1.5 turbo petrol. Union Jack lights too. Love it! Had one about 6 years ago but a lot older model.

Therighthonourable · 17/01/2019 19:13

I drive various makes of cars for work but own a mini as my personal car. I love it! It's like a go kart. Solid, grippy, speedy - when you want to go it goes!!!

Not very practical for a small child but I am style over practicality on many things.

I just bought the Mama's and Papas pram that was specifically designed to fit in the boot of the Mini. Job done!

@Accountant222 now I always thought they were just a touch too far for me price wise but I've been surprised

I usually go for something around the 8 or 9k mark like a fiesta. I aim for a year old

I'd always wanted a mini though so looked around and this one - just 10 months old - is just over 13K. I'll get a couple of grand trade in for my current car so all in all it'll be about 11k

I know that is a lot of money but it doesn't seem as much as I'd thought they were until I started looking

I've got the Mini Cooper 2.0 D Sport. It's a year old and had it from new. I LOVE it!. Feels really solid and sticks to the road in sport mode. Don't have the fancy lights though Grin Would definitely recommend.

WhatTimeIsItCuckoo · 17/01/2019 19:24

I have the John Cooper Works convertible and I love it. It's super nippy, looks great, easy to manoeuvre/park and is just all round brilliant. I've had bigger family cars in the past when our kids were young but now I'm loving driving this one for meeee Grin

DropZoneOne · 17/01/2019 19:28

I've got a London 2012 special edition Mini. Wanted a Mini, saw this one locally and had to have it! It doesnt have union jack tail lights but it does have heated seats.

It's a diesel too, but as i drive 50 miles a day to/from work, that's more economical than my old petrol mazda.

Only downside is that lorries have a tendency to cut me up. Had the same in my old mx-5. Luckily both cars so responsive, i quickly get out of the way.

WhatTimeIsItCuckoo · 17/01/2019 19:28

I should add that I'm not the most confident driver either but the Mini has really helped with this as it's just so easy, comfortable, etc, etc...

RocketQueen21 · 17/01/2019 19:33

I have a brand new MINI Countryman . Lushest car ever ! I had it made to order so added on loads of gadgets and fun stuff which is what I love about the MINI brand . It’s moonwalk grey with black stripes on the bonnet and black wheels , sunroof , auto tailgate , Harman Kardon (admittedly it’s not Bang and Olufsen but still sounds frickin awesome with Linkin Park blasting out the speakers 😏 ) leather seats , activity pack , chilli pack etc ! I wanted something quirky , big enough for my two ever growing boys and a crazy Cockapoo puppy . I paid extra for the adjustable rear seats so my boot is huge ! We travelled to the south of France in the summer and we had a full car plus roof box and it was so comfortable and not a hard ride in my opinion as others suggest . My husband is an Audi fan but I wanted something that stood out from the carpark crowd and MINI did that for me and the Countryman model as I needed a large car . Hope that helps ! Do it you’ll not be disappointed . My friend has just got one as she loves mine that much ! Helpful tip if you have the time , use CarWow to screw them down on price, I got a a very cheeky deal 😉

BlueUggs · 17/01/2019 19:35

I'm waiting for the plug in to come out!!

TheBlahWitchProject · 17/01/2019 19:45

I have a cooper s clubman with suicide door ....love it but drinks oil and ended up without it for a couple of months while engine was refurbished as a result....cool car, great for the dog (love the back doors, remind me of my dads Morris traveller when I was a little girl)....6 ft 3 and other 6ft DS’s struggle to get in back but ....might encourage them to take driving lessons 😂

laramara · 17/01/2019 19:51

I really love driving mine, it's very nippy and responsive, but a few very irritating things, the entertainment system is really tricky to use and non intuitive, also the boot is ridiculously small, servicing as it's BMW is on the pricey side. Also I had a diesel one as a loan car recently and thought it was miles slower than my petrol car.

MarmiteTermite · 17/01/2019 19:53

I have a Mini Cooper convertible and LOVE it. Love the projected logo - like a superhero! It’s my first mini but I can’t see me ever buying any other brand now as I’m a complete convert. I customised it and got the chilli pack and the chrome Smile

TiggeryBear · 17/01/2019 20:00

I had a 2006 Mini One & I ADORED it. We had to part with it as we had DC2 & it was deemed by OH to no longer be practical. If I had the money I'd have another in a heartbeat.

RavenAroundTheChristmasTree · 17/01/2019 20:19

I love mine! I got a new one (5dr cooper) on 68 plate and it is the cool Union Jack lights. I get comments on them often. This is my 4th mini, first one was a convertible mini one. But kids came along so I had a countryman, then upgraded to a 4wd countryman (64 plate that was so not the newer style). It’s was good and when we had all the snow last year it was no problem going out. Loved my countryman.

And now I have my new one. This is smaller than the countryman but good fun to drive, easy to park, can fit all the shopping in the boot no problem. I would recommend mini to anyone!

RavenAroundTheChristmasTree · 17/01/2019 20:22

Should add the touch screen is really easy to use.

CosmicComet · 17/01/2019 20:25

DH had one and wrote it off. The car was a wreck and he didn’t even have a bruise. They’re very solid and safe.

BatShaped · 17/01/2019 20:29

People just love minis don't they? I'm looking forward to it more now!!

There is a Mini 4x4 Cooper S Hybrid. We have one! (I think these are now renamed something else: Classic, Sport etc). Well it’s DHs car to get to the office and back just using the battery. It has petrol if needed!

I’m rather fond of it. No congestion charge in London. Great spec but we didn’t go mad. It’s classy rather than loud. It appears to be featured on their web site. A pewter grey metallic with black wheels and roof. We got the big hybrid discount which has now been removed I think.

The hybrid perhaps isn’t quite the same to drive as a standard Mini because of the heavy battery and the boot space is a bit smaller. You certainly cannot plug it in everywhere either! Also, pedestrians don’t hear it so you must be a bit careful around schools. However it’s the perfect run about.

I would go for it if anyone is undecided. DD used to have a Mini One and that was an excellent car too. The plug in hybrid is expensive to buy but cheap to run.

TheCraicDealer · 17/01/2019 21:26

I have a 2016 four door Cooper- metallic red, white roof and white racing stripes. It's very nippy and I've had a few mechanics in it rave about the drive. Buuuuuut I just don't love it. The door seals freeze shut in cold weather (all the doors!), one of the tyres consistently comes away from the rim so the tyre pressure light comes on and one of the rear seatbelts won't click in and mini say there's nothing wrong it it. My PCP is up next year- I'll buy the car out and then use it as a trade in for a Volvo XC40.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 17/01/2019 21:30

I learned to drive in one. The sport mode is awesome. Flip it on, touch the gas and it's just gone! Throws you back in your seat as you accelerate. I was and still am in love with it. This is the sole reason I'm doing pass plus in his car rather than my own. Grin

CatnissEverdene · 17/01/2019 21:38

I've got a 1 yr old Cooper S 5 door, that I've had from new. Mine is a petrol with automatic gearbox and i LOVE it. It's so nippy, good on fuel, feels really solid and easy to drive/park. DH got very carried away and added LED headlights, heated seats and the auto box/JCW steering wheel! I don't like the music system - it's really crap to work around and you have to press button after button to play spotify through your bluetooth.... DHs just auto plays when he gets in his Hmm. And the suspension is not for the faint hearted... there are times I wish it had a softer setting, especially on rural roads.

But I wouldn't swap it for the world.... I had a warning light come on the other day and it was in the garage for 2 days. They gave me a BMW1 series and I absolutely hated it. I was very very happy to be reunited with my Mini again Grin

BikeRunSki · 17/01/2019 21:48

I had an 02 Mini Cooper chilli pack. Red, White roof and bonnet stripes. Bullseye on roof. I loved it! I will have a Mini again when the twin spectres of huge and growing children and company car are no longer issues.

BatShaped · 17/01/2019 22:43

Do you think they're reliable? I've had Ford for years and, for me, they've been the epitome of reliability. Never had a problem
