Who the hell is Dave?

At Christmas and New Year, for the last 4/5 years I get best wishes text messages from Dave. I don't know who he is. I could ask him I suppose, but I quite like the mystery. I was very drunk last night and almost texted him back. Glad I didn't!

We also get Christmas cards from Pam and Vic for the previous owners of the house from 10 years ago. We always open them and display them and have a little toast to them on Christmas day.

Any similar stories?

I'd forgotten Janet and Roy. Did they send a round robin this time?

x2boys · 01/01/2019 17:29

I once got a text asking if I fancied their mate Dave? I didnt.know.any Dave,a well apart from my Brother in law but I'm sure it assent him Confused

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 01/01/2019 17:34

I don’t know who Dave is, do you know who Robert and Sara are? And why, this Christmas, they have they sent us yet another detailed description of their life, and their, pretentiously named, children’s lives over the last year when surely, they must realise, they have never had a single return card from us in fifteen years?Their flowery language round robin makes them sound as amusing as a bout of a particularly virulent urine infection. I’m glad I don’t know who they are because they sound insufferable. Literally no idea who they are, DH has lived here since 1985 so not meant for previous owners. It’s all very odd.

i recieve 4-5 cards every year for the original owner of the house .3 owners and 30 years ago.
for the past 2 years i recieve a small envelope with a card that says "jesus" and contains 100usdollars??????
no idea who it is.much appreciated and a lifesaver though.

x2boys · 01/01/2019 17:45

Are you single Op?.if so why not text him back it could be the start of a beautiful friendship.....

wishingitwasfriday · 01/01/2019 17:50

I get messages and calls for Beth. I've repeatedly told them they have the wrong number but they still call/text. I just ignore them now. Weirdly they must have the right contact details for Beth as they are often calling to confirm arrangements or say that they are on their way.

Last year I had four Christmas cards to my address but with unknown names on ... googling surnames enabled me to re-route them to other houses in my road. One recipient got in touch to say she was delighted to get a card from a very elderly acquaintance that she didn't realise was still thinking of her. None of the cards came to me again this year so I guess they all found their mark

GreenDinosaur · 01/01/2019 18:07

We received a lovely card, addressed to our family with all the correct names from Kate and Bernie.

We have no idea who Kate and Bernie are. Confused
I want to send one back as they seem nice but there's no return address or any details. It was hand delivered so not even a postmark to go on.

Wateringhole · 01/01/2019 18:14

We get a card addressed to someone who may have previously lived at our house but not for at least 10 years. They are obviously still in contact as this year they congratulated them on their new arrival. But they obviously aren't close enough to have been given their correct address!

BalloonSlayer · 01/01/2019 18:16

At Christnas for years we used to get a letter for the people here before us from America. The sender was someone with an almost comically American-woman-of-a-certain-age name. Think Thelma J Bindlebutt or similar. The kind of name you'd imagine one of the ladies in a Far Side cartoon might have.

I never opened them of course, just forwarded them.

I felt sorry for Thelma J Bindlebutt that she felt fond enough of these people to write them a big long letter every year but they couldn't even be arsed to communicate enough with her to tell her that they'd moved.

I always fancied they met her on a cruise.

The letters stopped eventually. I hope because "Thelma" finally got told the new address and not because she either gave up writing or died.

whyameyehere · 01/01/2019 18:22

For years dh and I got xmas card adressed to us from a couple whose names neither of us recognised, they obviously knew us and our address. The cards only stopped when we moved and we often wonder if the people who live there now still get cards addressed to us!

I had a flyer for a local Painter festive with a note pushed through my door. The note was an inviting to the festival and informed me I was a witch and could he join my coven. He also posted a note through a woman house round the corner telling her I was a witch, was she a witch and if so, could he join her coven 🙄

SpamChaudFroid · 01/01/2019 18:26

PAGAN FESTIVAL not painter festive

A man phones from time to time asking to talk about cash.
Eventually he explained he wants to talk about about Kash, a boy.
I don’t know Kash. I tell him that every time. He thinks I am Kash’s mum and that I tell lies.

BlytheSpiritsSpirit · 01/01/2019 18:59

Got sent a text a few years back from someone I initially thought was DH's friend, but no. He kept texting me and started trying to flirt, blurgh. Let slip he was married as well, the poor woman. I ignored him but he kept it up, sporadically, for several months.

x2boys · 01/01/2019 19:01

This reminds me at an old address I got yearly letters from Currys (I tbink) thanking me for shopping thre and reminding me my "washer/dryer " needed servicing only I didn't have a washer /dryer Hmm

LadyFlumpalot · 01/01/2019 19:28

My stepdad had a text that just said "mate, you need to pay that money back". He texted back to say wrong number and got a text back that said "don't play games with me, mate, I'm on my way round and you'd better have it waiting for me"

Nobody ever did knock on the door asking for money and no further texts were received so lord only knows who that was for...

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 01/01/2019 19:29

I'm married so no chance of a relationship with Dave.

Here's the message Smile

Happy new year 2019 hope it is a good happy 1 full of good health & may your wishes or dreams come true just remember you will only be another year older!
Enjoy.

Dave x

I don’t know about your Dave but my 5yr old dd asked me if all builders were called Dave after our second builder called Dave.

Ilovetolurk · 01/01/2019 19:33

Every couple of weeks I'm asked to think of Jess, billy and bobby or whoever and given lists of reasons to pray for them

I feel like this could be the preamble to some horror film in which one week the email is talking about you and inviting prayers for your untimely demise final destination style

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/01/2019 19:34

At my old house I used to get regular phone calls from overseas from a man called Mehmet, asking for Tracey. I am not called Tracey...

letsdolunch321 · 01/01/2019 19:36

We get cards from previous occupiers, same as you OP we display the cards 🤣

HarrietSchulenberg · 01/01/2019 19:38

My parents used to live in a house which had previously belonged to someone who was rumoured to attend some A list showbiz parties. This was in the early-mid 1960s. For a few years they got a Christmas card addressed to the previous owner and kept forwarding it on until one year curiosity got the better of them and they opened it. It was signed Peter and Britt. Turned out to be Peter Sellers and Britt Ekland, who were a pretty hot showbiz couple at the time.
It would be a bit like getting a card from the Beckhams now.

Borntobeamum · 01/01/2019 19:46

judas I think you're the recipient of an 'hoax' Round Robin Im Afraid! X

I went to dinner at my friend Clare's House for the first time - we'd been friends at school but had only ever met at reunion events or other friends' houses. A complete stranger opened the door.

A quick chat revealed I'd got the wrong address and a quick phone call sorted that out, but as I left this woman's house she said 'it's so funny, I recognised your friend's name, as someone sends a Christmas card here for her every year'. We agreed it was a funny coincidence and only as I drove away did I realise that of course she did - I was the one who sent it, and had done so for years and years!
