Asda at midnight

xlexiix · 23/12/2018 21:38

So thanks to DH coming down with what I can only describe as some kind of excercist style vomiting we can no longer go to DMs from Christmas Eve untill 27th.

As we are meant to be leaving in the morning I have nothing in the house would I be mad to go to Asda at 12:01 when it opens and do a food shop..

Has anyone been on a Monday at midnight before is it usually well stocked? Am I walking into a disaster zone? Or should I go tomorrow morning?

Help

Tonic
Ice
Lime
Lemonade ice lollies and salted crisps for when DH is a bit better
Cheese!
Crackers
Salted butter and a nice crusty loaf
Pâté
Roasted salted nuts
Brazil nuts
Good crisps

Good luck and hope you escape the hideous bug!

Get a second baking camembert and then you can have pigs in blankets dipped in baked camembert!

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 23/12/2018 22:50

I did Tesco at 04:30 on Saturday morning and was amazed at all the lovely people working filling the shelves etc. All very helpful and cheerful too. I was one of about 6 people shopping! I bought bucksfizz, no problem. Didn't get any strong booze though.

Hope DH gets better soon and that you don't get it ! Happy Christmas !

MrsFezziwig · 23/12/2018 22:50

Having made the amazing discovery, thanks to you lovely people, that Asda will be opening at 12.01, I feel strangely compelled to go even though I have already bought everything I need (might be something to do with the thought of pigs in blankets dipped in camembert) Blush

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 23/12/2018 22:57

I too am now considering whether 5 pigs in blankets each will be sufficient and may have to get some more and another camembert. There is still a tiny space in the fridge. No 24hr places but I could go early tomorrow...

xlexiix · 23/12/2018 22:57

Oh my god camembert with pigs in blankets for dipping why did I not know this was a thing!!!

Ok I'm going I'm all pumped now to stay away until then....

Will report how bad it is when I get there!

Shouldwe you are a genius 🍷
Our Xmas plans have just changed suddenly, and I need something different
Pigs in blankets and Camembert sounds ace

BubonicBudgie · 23/12/2018 23:06

As this might be the mainstay of my Xmas dinner do you think a packet of Camembert and a packet of pig's in blankets per person would be a good size portion ? Grin

abbsisspartacus · 23/12/2018 23:08

Pink gloopy medicine tastes vile holds everything in give it to dh so he can shut up?

DaphneFanshaw · 23/12/2018 23:08

It should be fine. Don’t forget the other bits like potatoes, veg and gravy making ingredients.
Crisp, nuts and nibbley stuff.

@lottielottielottie Jesus. Calm down love.

xlexiix · 23/12/2018 23:24

@lottielottielottie at no point have I said it's his fault he is ill in reality I am being all bright and breezy to his face and making all the right noises about how terrible it is he is sick while silently seething at the sick voice I'm going to Asda to try and salvage some of Christmas!

To everyone else thank you all for brightening up my slightly rubbish evening.. I am starting to get ready now and dreading it! It's dark and cold!!!

lottielottielottie · 23/12/2018 23:25

@ShitBag I am calm lol. I just can't stand all the OTT Christmas shite / panic over one fucking day. OP talking like her life is in ruins due to husband being ill. Can't wait until all this pathetic crazy Christmas behaviour is all over Grin

italiancortado · 23/12/2018 23:28

I’m in Tesco now, it’s quite busy, like a usual weekday! Shelves are pretty well stocked and plenty staff working on filling right now.

ShitBag · 23/12/2018 23:36

@lottielottielottie but some people like Christmas.. OP is entitled to feel a little frustrated that hers hasn't worked out as planned.
I don't think she needs to 'fucking grow up' really.
Bit harsh.

Merry merry merry Christmas!

RCohle · 23/12/2018 23:39

Wow @lottielottielottie, describing the OP as "pathetic crazy Christmas behaviour" is really harsh.

Peace on the earth and good will to all men, and that . I think you might be the one that needs to chill out a bit.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/12/2018 23:45

I hope the op remembers to get some nice bread - to go with the cheesy pigs but also may be something her DH can eat when he starts to recover - which I'm sure we all hope he does soon.

Do it, I did Tesco at 6 am on Christmas Eve one year (working full time and no chance beforehand) and it was lovely and quiet with full shelves.

knittedmouse · 24/12/2018 01:03

I've just got back from Tesco. I got some ice cream out of the freezer and there was a strong smell of smoke. The store worker looked decidedly sick when I told him.

xlexiix · 24/12/2018 01:10

Well I'm on my way home now I could confirm everybody in my local area had exactly the same idea the queues were ridiculous and the shelves were still being stacked.

I managed to get everything on my list except figs in blankets but I did get cocktail sausages and streaky bacon so I'm considering that a win DH must be feeling better as he started texting me a list of demands as I was battling the crowds there was not a turkey to be found but I have survive the experience

Now just to get home and put the stuff away I feel like I need a large glass of wine

I was in and out in 20 mins with extra pigs in blankets! And a Camembert which wasn’t on my list Xmas Grin

Rather dead at mine! Was fully stocked apart from fresh milk as the delivery wasn’t in yet.

The checkout lady was expecting utter carnage but was pleasantly surprised at how quite it was Xmas Smile

justforareply · 24/12/2018 01:55

Sending Winewell done Smile

MarcieBluebell · 24/12/2018 02:08

I wish I had a 24 hour store near me. Love a potter about in the early hours when I can't sleep. Merry xmas op.

jessstan2 · 24/12/2018 02:11

Might be fun to go to Asda in the middle of the night!

(I think strange things are 'fun' at my age.)

My husband went to Asda today (yesterday really) afternoon to pick up my son's order and was pleasantly surprised that it was not at all difficult and they actually took it out to the car for him!

Good luck, hope you enjoy,
