How much sleep do you get/need?

Recently come to the realisation my optimum sleep is 9 hours. I’m a good sleeper and rarely wake up in the night, I do an office job and not overly physically active so it makes me wonder why I need so much.
Less than 8 I’m groggy, less than 7 it seriously starts to affect my day.
Typical week day I’m in bed for 11 and alarms set at 7.30

To feel really fresh then 8 hours, bare minimum needed to function for me 6 hours. I wake up early and find it difficult to get back to sleep no matter what time I go bed.

To feel fresh I need 8 - 10 hours.

I'm lucky if I get 2 at the moment - chronic pain, horrid virus and insomnia. Lethal combo!

I wake up after 7 hours these days, doesn’t matter what day it is. Means I’m usually pottering from 7.30 on the weekends. Weekdays I’m in bed lights off at 11, usually wake refreshed at 6 - 6.30. I know I’m lucky - my best friend has insomnia and I know she really struggles. I’m no good on less though so when we have kids I’ll be a nightmare...

I need at least 8 and get around 6 😭

stegosauruslady · 29/11/2018 18:26

I need seven hours, I generally get 6.

I am astonishingly good at functioning on 3/4 hours sleep though when necessary!

FickleFingers · 29/11/2018 18:43

It's funny because I used to feel like I couldn't function without 8 hours minimum.
Between kids and work I get between 5-7hrs max and feel no difference!!
Turns out I have an under active thyroid so it doesn't matter how much sleep I get, I will still feel shit when I wake up 🙄
