Anyone recommend a good supermarket pizza base?
I used to get these
Sainsbury's Stonebaked Pizza Bases but they've been discontinued!

Last time we wanted homemade pizza we ended up buying the Sainsbury’s basics margarita (sp?) ones which were very cheap and had just a bit of tomato purée and a small bit of cheese. Once the kids were finished topping them, I have to say, they were bloody lovely!

Oh fucks sake I used to buy the Sainsbury's Stonebaked ones and noticed they haven't been in the shop for a couple of weeks. They were great for quick Friday night pizzas..why does this always happen..

I would also vote for Northern Dough. I would never go back to a ready made base any more.

Those Waitrose ones are lovely and already have the tomato sauce on them. My DC love them - I put out sliced mushrooms, peppers, sweetcorn, grated cheese etc and they make their own.

This thread inspired me for dinner tonight. DP has ham mushroom and pineapple on his.. Ive got prawns, anchovies, capers, artichoke and olives on mine... 😂

I use ciabatta halved, or naan bread, prefer these to pizza dough bases!

Vegisgrowingwell · 01/11/2018 19:40

@NoNoCharlieRascal we love the yogurt/flour flatbread. Best recipe in the world!!

DamsonWhine · 01/11/2018 19:40

Loving the make it at home with an aubergine brigade Grin

The Sainsbury’s bases were bloody lovely, what a travesty. I’d noticed they had stopped selling the pizza topping in our store too. Maybe they will replace with a rejigged product?

We will hold a memorial when we eat the last two bases from the freezer tomorrow night Sad

E20mom · 01/11/2018 19:52

I was going to recommend those Waitrose ones too.

Sainsburys do a cheaper two pack, for £1.20. It has no tomato on it they're just plain

Johnbuoy · 01/11/2018 21:47

yeah, ended up having to use the £1.20 ones last night for 5 boys. They were ok ... but not as nice as the ones they have discontinued!

Those Crosto and Moll from waitrose are the best you can never go back to anything else after you've had them.

The bread mix dough doesn't have to prove for as long as they say it does. Last week I only proved it for about 15-20 mins, just while prepping the veg toppings and it was fine. It doesn't need to rise much, so as long as it's swollen a bit from being in a warm place then you can just roll it out. It's a bit of a faff but tastes so much nicer than ready made bases.
