Anyone recommend a good supermarket pizza base?
I used to get these
Sainsbury's Stonebaked Pizza Bases but they've been discontinued!

Waitrose do one. It’s as good as any from an Italian restaurant

£2.19 is a bit pricey for a single pizza base.
Sainsburys version was 2 pizza bases for £1.60.

Anything cheaper for when you have a bunch of kids around at short notice?

Oh no!! Those Sainsburys ones were the only ones I could stand. Most of the time I make it myself but in a pinch, they were pretty good.

Northern Dough company is amazing. But maybe pricey for kids. Ocado do 4 good sized bases for £1 and dd and I love them!

LittleMouseontheDairy · 01/11/2018 13:25

I came on to say the Crosta and Mollica ones too. DH and I are OBSESSED with them Blush

sparklepops123 · 01/11/2018 15:32

Sainsbury's do a frozen dough

goose1964 · 01/11/2018 15:36

Waitrose do a cauliflower, and a courgette one, they're small but filling, Even my cauliflower hating kids eat them with no complaints about the taste.

They're not heal but half a small one will be enough for a normal appetite

goose1964 · 01/11/2018 15:37

Cheap not heal

dementedpixie · 01/11/2018 15:45

We use the napolina ones. Home bargains sell them cheaper sometimes. They are normally with the pizza topping sauces

Second the frozen Northern dough company, you do have to roll it out; each packet contains two balls of dough with each ball enough for a 12” pizza for £2.50

redzebra10 · 01/11/2018 16:06

garlic and coriander nans (the big ones) make a nice pizza base

ileclerc · 01/11/2018 16:10

Tortillas for when we're being a bit healthier work really well.

OneStepMoreFun · 01/11/2018 16:13

Just buy a strong white flour bread mix, add warm water, drop of olive oil (optional) and leave somewhere warm for 30 mins while the oven heats up and you prep the toppings/lay the table. That makes four big pizzas or six-eight kid-sized ones.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/11/2018 16:13

I just bought some Jus-Roll sour dough pizza base (£2 in Asda ) in a pouch , you roll it yourself so I suppose it could be as thin as you like .
Don't know what it's like though.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/11/2018 16:16

I make mine in the breadmaker. 40 minutes. French bread pizza or pitta pizza is good though.

Chimchar · 01/11/2018 16:21

I buy packs of fresh Naan bread from Costco. Less than £4 for 12 Naans. Each one is about the size of a 10 inch pizza.

They're really lovely, cook in about 8 minutes. They come with about 2 weeks date on them.

anniehm · 01/11/2018 16:34

Make a scone base (flour, egg, bicarbonate, margarine) and cook for 2 mins prior to topping and cooking as normal. Alternatively halve a ciabatta, or any flatbread. Failing that by basic cheese and tomato pizza eg Tesco value and add toppings. I use my bread machine to make dough but takes 2 hours!

chickensaresafehere · 01/11/2018 16:36

Pizza dough is so easy to make yourself.Cheaper too & tastier.

NoNoCharlieRascal · 01/11/2018 16:37

We've fallen in love with Greek yoghurt pizza. Half yoghurt, half Sr flour. Mix together until in a dough, pop on pan in a hot oven for 3/4 mins then add toppings. It's easy and delicious.

BarbaraofSevillle · 01/11/2018 16:56

But making your own takes aages. I do it in the breadmaker, which is 40 minute cycle after you've put all the ingredients in, plus rolling out and proving, plus sorting out the toppings, plus baking. So about 2 hours from start to finish.

BarbaraofSevillle · 01/11/2018 16:57

I bloody hate dealing with fresh pizza dough when it's all sticky and all over your hands too anyway. The result is usually nice but not nice enough for the effort so it's one of the things that I get when I eat out, because it's not something I can do quickly and easily at home.

HoraceWimpIsThisYourLife · 01/11/2018 17:00

I’ve never found a decent base ready made.
Much easier to make your own. If you’ve got a day where you have the time then double up on ingredients and freeze the extra bases.

iloveredwine · 01/11/2018 17:59

We just use pitta bread!

FekkoThePenguin · 01/11/2018 18:02

I'm with crispbutty et Al on this one. They are often in 2 for £4 in waitrose.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 01/11/2018 18:13

Waitrose do packs of 2 stonebaked pizza bases, find them in the freezer section. They are really nice, about £2 I think.
