Have you ever seen a ghost?

I haven't. I'm curious but I don't think I'd want to see one, not if I was alone and scared anyway.

But Halloween is here (🎃 👻) and I keep reading spooky stories and it's got me thinking 😊

... Who on here has seen a ghost?

No never seen one. Have felt uncomfortable and rattled by some places.

bobstersmum · 30/10/2018 12:36

I've never told this before, but about 15 years ago I was in a really bad place, I'd gone through some horrible things and made some really bad choices, I was totally rock bottom and really actually wanted to die. One particular day it was my birthday, I was alone apart from my little dog, I just sat and cried and prayed that I could die so that it could end, then something caught my eye, a dark shape on the wall at the side of me, as I turned to actually look at it it was a fuzzy shape of a person, almost like a silhouette, I looked around to see if something was causing a shadow or other explanation and it wasn't, I looked back and it was still there but then started to fade before my eyes. For whatever reason I just felt better, I couldn't make any sense of it but I just felt stronger and brighter in mood. My life did start to get better very soon after. I don't think it was a ghost but maybe my guardian angel.

Me. I've seen and heard many things. A lot of the time it's just seeing someone out the corner of your eye or a shadow that shouldn't be there. But three times I've seen proper ghosts. It's never how you think it's going to be, you're not frozen in fear. You realise what you saw afterwards and that it can't be explained.

@EalingBroadway my mum and I saw a man stood by the doorway in a b&b we were staying in independently. I saw him and assumed it was my dad and told him to get back into bed. Mum then woke and saw him too.

RocksSocksFoxBox · 30/10/2018 13:26

Last night. I think.
I woke up after hearing a tapping sound on my bedroom wall. I didn’t think much of it, so just shut my eyes again, then I heard it again so looked at the wall and saw an old man standing there with one arm stretched out. I did a silent scream, shut my eyes, and when I looked back he wasn’t there.
I’m still trying to figure out if it was a ghost or just my imagination, I dont think it was a dream though because I was definitely awake.
I certainly didn’t get that peaceful feeling that people claim when they see a ghost either.

More details needed, Chocolatecoffee!

I've never seen anything, and I now sleep in the room that my dear mum died in so I keep expecting to but, no dice.

However, two different children who've slept in another room of the house have talked about 'the lady' who comes and sits on their bed at night, so...

I was staying with a friend and she gave me the attic room, now she had six cats and they could be a bit annoying at night and there was a cat door in the room door from when she used to sleep up there before her ex moved out and she moved down to a room on the first floor of the house. She advised me to first check the room thoroughly to make sure all of the cats were out of the room which since it didn't have a lot of furniture was easy ( bed was mattress on floor so no under bed space!). So I got sorted for bed and started to read by the light of one of the those daft neon light phones she had as a lamp.

Suddenly I could feel cat feet on my legs, like they do when they are settling down to make themselves comfortable to have a good sleep on you. I looked down expecting to find that one of the little buggers had eluded my search. No cat. I could see moving dints where a cats feet were going but no cat. I felt it settle so I just carried on reading and I felt actually calm and good feelings from it. Later before I slept I just felt it had 'gone'.

I asked my friend about it and she said yes some people who had stayed in the room had felt it too. She reckoned it was one of her cats who'd died. He was used to sleep on her legs and was extremely protective of her. He would only ever come to women though as he hated her ex who was abusive.

My DH has seen several ghosts although never in this country, only in his native country, one being his grandad and the other an old man with a little white dog who he talked with until he said something he didn't like so he threw a shoe at him and he disappeared.

His country has some amazing and very woo places! Lots of witches and spooky places!

VenusClapTrap · 30/10/2018 15:00

I wish my deceased cat would come back and sit on me.

Kezzie200 · 30/10/2018 15:17

I dont believe in them. Yes I once saw one. I have put it down to my vusual imagination - bit like dreaming but awake. It makes it easier to fit with my views.

I used to see what I thought was a child in my old house, always just out the corner or my eye. One night me and my DH were sitting watching tv and both heard a child calling mummy from the stairs behind us. No one was there and my DS was fast asleep in bed.

The other day my dd's were filming themselves on their tablet in their bedroom. There's an orb in 2 videos flying round the room. It's not a light or reflection or anything like that. It looks like a white bubble flying round in different directions and in and out of their room.

I haven't had any experiences but my parents have. Our first home was a tenement flat and they would often hear the floorboards in the hall creaking all the way along in the middle of the night and one night they were lying in bed and the big plastic lid from the washing basket flew into their room and landed on the bed.

An old lady that had lived in the flat above them had passed away in her house and my mum would say oh I wonder if it's Betty. Then one night my mum got a psychic in and he said "I've got your gran here". Immediately my mum thought what a lot of rubbish as she didn't call her gran that but didn't say anything just nodded then he said "oh wait she's saying it's not gran it's nana". Then just before he left he said "she says shame on you for thinking it was Betty" and my mum was so shocked because she hadn't mentioned her suspicions to him. They never had any spooky stuff happen after that.

Also, my dads father died years before I was born and they weren't close as he was an alcoholic and didn't treat my gran well so no one had ever bothered speaking to me about him and I never asked as my gran had remarried so I had a grandfather on both sides. We had a butterfly table and I used to sit under it and play and one day my dad could hear me chatting away so popped his head under to ask who I was talking to and I said "my granda John" (DF's dad). My dad quickly retreated and left me to it 😂

Kezzie200 · 30/10/2018 16:17

I saw a woman walking up the stairs in my office. I even went up to find them as they shouldn't have been there as it was early morning. There was no one there.

The property was a converted stable block and that staircase we put in, so its not like an old ghost occupant should have been using it. It was originally downstairs stables later a flat for an old guy who died there. Upstairs was stable boys accommodation and later the families nanny lived there. The steps to upstairs were outside (like a fire escape).

Also, we had staff dogs in our office, and one back room the dogs hated.

InteriorLulu · 30/10/2018 16:25

@EalingBroadway. Yes, both DH and I have seen the same spirit/ghost independently of each other.

We rented a place when we first got together - shared bathroom with a closed off staircase opposite which led down to the ground floor flat. Anyway, I saw a woman dressed in brown Edwardian style clothing climbing the stairs, didn't really register to be honest, beyond 'oh, that's weird' (the place was full of things that went bump in the night). A couple of days later DH mentioned the thing that he'd seen in the stairwell. Wearing brown.

One of many things that eventually led to us moving out. We lasted six months.

Oh and the disappearing door was another - on the left as we went through the front door was a door into the downstairs flat. It was there for the first couple of months we were there, obviously the entrance to the flat. And then it was gone. No evidence that it had been there at all.

Tighnabruaich · 30/10/2018 16:35

I don't believe in ghosts, or at least am sceptical. However the following two things happened to me.

A long time ago in the late 70s my boyfriend and I were standing on the pavement at the edge of a common waiting for a bus. He was standing directly behind me to shield me from the cold. A man walking his dog came along the path on the common, and I turned my head to look at him.

When I turned back I saw a white, kind of smokey, shape drift out of the common and across the road and up into the attic window of an old house facing the common. It was sort of shapless and almost see-through, but vaguely human shape.

My boyfriend said to me, 'did you see that?' 'yes'. 'Then say nothing about it til we get home. I'll explain then'.

We got back and he took out a notebook and two pens, gave me a page and a pen and told me to draw what I'd seen, while he did the same.

We then showed each other the drawings and they were identical, but we'd not discussed what we'd seen to make sure there was no influence.

That was a bit long, so I'll put the other incident separately.

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 30/10/2018 16:55

I've seen a ghost.

One of my little dogs choked to death in my arms ( an over-large pieces of food got trapped in her throat - it was awful).

For several week she continued to meet me when I cam home, just as usual, running down the stairs towards me and getting fainter and fainter as she got close to me. It wasn't just me who saw her - the other dogs did too, and go very excited and spent some time looking for her each time.

Then she began to fade sooner and sooner, and one day didn't appear at all.

I miss her so much

Mincepietimesoon · 30/10/2018 17:26

When I was 7 or 8 i swear I saw a woman come out of my (large door) toy cupboard - I never told anyone but I can never sleep if there is a cupboard door not completely closed! I don’t know why but I think she had on an old fashioned nurse’s uniform.

Nothing as an adult but I’m open minded - not everything I’ve read has been by the obviously deluded.

ManicUnicorn · 30/10/2018 17:28

Yes my grandmother on the morning she died and my last dog. Ive seen him several times, the sightings increased when we got our new puppy! Like he was reminding us not to forget him.

dangermouseisace · 30/10/2018 17:39

Re 2 people experiencing the same thing at the same time, my friend and I did in our teens. We were in a care facility, and one evening had hidden away up a flight of stairs near the staff accommodation/offices. There was a door to this, which was locked. We heard someone whistling a tune (sounded like a man), which got louder the closer it came to us. We expected the door to open and a member of staff need to come down the stairs, so we got up and walked downstairs, and back to the bedrooms/night office area which was in a new annex. We were surprised to see both members of staff who were on duty in that office, and explained that we’d heard whistling, so thought a member of staff was up there. They told us there definitely wasn’t anyone up there, there were no other members of staff in except them, and we’d probably heard the ghost, and that other members of staff had heard it on other occasions. We weren’t freaked out though, it wasn’t scary.

queenofgoogle · 30/10/2018 17:50

I haven't but my dad has and he is the most no nonsense person ever.
He used to work nights when we were young and one night I awoke to find him stood in my bedroom looking out of my window, I called him and asked him what he was doing, he turned to me slowly and looked absolutely shocked and pale, he just shook his head and walled out of the room.
He never said anything about it til years later when he told me that when he parked the car after coming him from work that night, he looked down the alley of our street as he walked past and saw three of out neighbours cats running wildly back and forth and then shot out of the alleyway,he called to the cats as they always used to come into our house when I played with them but they shot under a car. he then looked back up into the alley and saw a small boy dressed in light clothing with a bake boy cap and he was looking down. my dad was shocked and asked him if he was alright, they boy didn't look up, he started to walk up to him as he was concerned what a young boy was doing out at 3am, but something made him stop dead in his tracks, he turned back round and walked across the road to our house.
That night in my bedroom he was trying to see if he could still see the boy because you could see straight into the alley from my room, there was no one there.
When he told me I knew instantly where he meant. It was the back wall of one the houses of the street across from us but you could see where there had been a window which had been blocked up by bricks as those bricks were different, it was the shape of a very old style window(don't know how to explain it better).
Those houses were from the 1900s so very old.
if anyone else had told me this id never believe them but because I clearly remember the look on my dad's face and the fact that he's such a serious person usually makes me believe it a 100%.

Jellyonawonkyplate · 30/10/2018 18:23

My dad, who is the most straightforward, down to earth person you could meet - had a ghostly experience when he was younger and it's the reason I totally believe. It's just not in his nature to make something like that up.

When he was in his twenties he travelled a lot and stayed on his own in a hotel in Germany. He was woken up by the cord light switch swinging side to side. Got back to sleep only to wake to his entire metal framed bed being shaken violently. Happened twice.

He mentioned it at breakfast next morning to be told, rather nonchalantly, that it was the ghost of a soldier.
