Not sure how long this thread will last for, but here goes.....

The Sun headline today is less than complimentary. I won't provide a link but basically Beckham avoided a speeding fine.

Is this the start of the backlash? It seems that the tide is turning and people are getting fed up of them (family as a whole).

Disclaimer: please don't write anything that will get you sued. I am not a journo TABLOID SCUM. just curious whether this is the start of the decline and fall.

Yes, I feel sorry for the younger kids. Please be kind. But it's odd how a family were lauded as The Best Thing Ever and now don't seem to be able to do right for doing wrong.

I think you’ll find clothes move some people in the way music does, or a painting does. It’s not for you but it’s not automatically bollocks.

LukeSkywalkerBoots · 28/09/2018 13:30

A jacket moves you?! Ok then. Enjoy your clothes.

LostInShoebiz · 28/09/2018 13:32

Very childish. Sad.

LukeSkywalkerBoots · 28/09/2018 13:32

It’s literally what you just said- clothes move you!

LARLARLAND · 28/09/2018 13:38

They are two massive show offs.

LostInShoebiz · 28/09/2018 13:39

No, I said “clothes move some people” and you responded by suggesting, specifically, that a jacket had, again specifically, moved me.

I have seen couture gowns that represent hundred of hours of work by skilled crafts people. They are, for some, as moving as the Sistine Chapel ceiling or a symphony, both of which represent the tireless labour of their makers.

You’d be wise to accept you’ve made a silly mistake in misquoting me and move on.

megletthesecond · 28/09/2018 13:43

Couture at least treats the staff well. It's not made in a sweatshop. I don't think it even makes profit. It's loss leasing inspirational creativity for the sake of it.
I can't afford it but I still love it.

LukeSkywalkerBoots · 28/09/2018 13:45

I’m not interested in arguing anymore thank you.

If you did a poll of about a hundred people, I’d be surprised if you found even one who said that fashion ‘moves them’.

I’m guessing that to feel that way you maybe either work in the industry or enjoy fashion very much, otherwise you wouldn’t be so impassioned about something that other people don’t care about.

So let’s leave it there.

LostInShoebiz · 28/09/2018 13:47

One of the best perks I’ve ever had at work was a pair of shoes made just for me. All the buyers were taken to a kind of laser measuring machine ( a bit like the Clark’s one for kids but more technical) and a month later we received our very own shoes custom made to our measurements. Barring a lottery win that’s as close to couture as I’ll ever get.

LostInShoebiz · 28/09/2018 13:48

Yes, I’m a lead buyer for one of the world’s leading high fashion retailers. And no, I don’t think my job is a load of bollocks.

dinkydonky · 28/09/2018 13:50

If you did a poll of 100 people I'd be shocked if there wasn't a substantial proportion who cared more about fashion than music or art. Maybe not high end fashion, but most people aren't that interested in high end music or art either. I certainly dedicate more time and thought to the clothes I wear (not especially expensive stuff, but carefully chosen) than the music I listen to (whatever's on the radio) or the art on my walls (cheap impulse purchases).

Hushnownobodycares · 28/09/2018 13:52

The wheels have been coming off Brand Beckham for a while now. I can't think there are many who believe the marriage has been anything but a PR front since at least the Rebecca Loos incident and DB didn't exactly cover himself in glory with gong-gate.

The press give and the press take away but the Beckses have been more than generous with the raw material for them to do so.

glintandglide · 28/09/2018 13:56

I suspect he would’ve lost his license. Or maybe he’s just so arrogant he knew he could buy his way out.

I don’t think her label losing money is a big deal- most high end fashion labels do, and most have more backing than a washed up footballer. But Vicky has plenty of her own spice girl money, she doesn’t need a rich husband

LostInShoebiz · 28/09/2018 13:57

On the one hand, people say PR stunt. If it were neighbours or friends people might more generously say keeping things together for the kids.

Rebecca36 · 28/09/2018 13:58

He didn't receive the paperwork within fourteen days of the offence therefore shouldn't be fined.

glintandglide · 28/09/2018 13:59

I think she just desperately wants to be with him, but I also think she’s the brains behind pretty much everything they have- her and her family anyway. She came from an entrpeunerual background and seems eager to continue it

IStandWithPosie · 28/09/2018 14:01

And if we're honest, which of us wouldn't get out of a speeding fine if we could

Disclaimer: I don’t speed, I’m really careful, my job depends on me having a license. But, if I had, and If my children were watching, (Which his are!) I would absolutely pay the fine and take responsibility. It’s far too important a thing to set a bad example to your children on.

megletthesecond · 28/09/2018 14:06

I don't speed (advanced driving wanker) so I'm not likely to get a fine.

Hanyu · 28/09/2018 14:08

The Beckhams have a weird three-way financial set up between them and Simon Fuller. Their finances are entwined. It’s well-reported that her fashion line loses money and that David makes a lot of money. It all goes into the same pot and gets split three ways. I suspect it would be very complicated for them if they divorced. The other spice girls were very keen to go back on tour, they want the money. Victoria not so much, eh?

lynmilne65 · 28/09/2018 14:09

Couture gowns, Sistine Chapel? Say what???

lynmilne65 · 28/09/2018 14:09

And that'll be me removed from Mn again 😝

glintandglide · 28/09/2018 14:15

But Victoria and Beckham made huge amounts well before her fashion label- she has, I expect always made more than the other spice girls thanks to brand Beckham- they have been licensing their names to products for 20 years. Mind you Geri married a billionaire so suspect she no longer needs tour money

lLikeCake · 28/09/2018 14:29

Well, it will be interesting to see what the next headline is.

OP posts:
ClemClemFandango · 28/09/2018 14:35

Obviously this lawyer costs far more than any fine, so he must have faced a driving ban, or this would be silly. He should have suffered the fine and the ban, like we'd have to do, and hired a driver for a while. His popularity is diminishing as it is and this stunt won't have helped.

Personally, I lost any respect after the whole foot stamping "I should be a Sir' e-mail malarkey.

areyoubeingserviced · 28/09/2018 14:36

I believe that Harper is IVF because they wanted a girl. The marriage has been a sham for years. DB comes across as vain and arrogant imho. He’s been angling for a knighthood for ages . So desperate
