They left me this morning. Just packed up and went.

September. I knew it was coming of course. Just finding it hard at the moment.

It has been a wonderful Summer. Just like the last, all here together again and lots of time in the garden chattering away. The weather has been blooming brilliant of course and that helps. But Summer is over. They needed to get back and I guess they chose just to go.

I miss them. That's all.

I’m surrounded by squirrels. They generally prefer a pint.

This is such a wonderful thread, thanks OP. I also feel touched by the story of ‘Phoebe’s nail.’
Your mood (which is how I always start to feel around mid-August) reminds me of the chapter in The Wind in the Willows when the Water Rat is tempted by the call of the South, one of my favourite pieces of writing ever. I like your style, keep going and ignore the critics 🤗

We had a visit from a squirrel. He came to pinch my nuts! The cats were not impressed and gave chase. He ran up the side of the house (the other side to where the bird nest is -see above- thank goodness, as our bathroom window is round there and it was open, so he might have gone in the house and been rampaging round the bedrooms!) Anyway, even though I got the cats in, squirrel clung on up on the brickwork, chattering, for over an hour! How he managed it I don’t know. Game little fella, it hasn’t put him off, he’s been back since for another go at the nuts.

You've got to look after your nuts Woolly

I don’t mind squirrel having some, but I draw the line at Starlings! Not since one little bugger got in my roof in our old house, and was up there rustling and peck peck pecking on the beams sounding like he had a big hammer, keeping me awake all night. Starlings make me rage now!

JaneJeffer · 11/09/2018 09:59

I lived in an old house for a few years and a family of starlings took up residence in the roof. Such a racket but I got used to it!

We live in a flat at the top of a woody hill, surrounded by trees, which is where the squirrel buddies leap around.

I forgot to mention though that we are in one of the parts of London which has cockatiels flying freely. The first time I saw a few from the window here I thought I was hallucinating. They are so green. Everyone gets a shock when they first see them.
