Egg mayo sandwich. Eating one now. Still a bit warm and really gooey. Nom nom.

What is it for you that is always best made at home instead of shop bought or restaurant?

OP posts:

Nothing beats homemade...except when I've made it!

PuppyMonkey · 23/08/2018 15:58

Cup of tea for me Grin

Srsly, no posh hotel, trendy cafe, cute BnB or award-winning artisan tearoom can come close to a cuppa made in my own mug by me.

AdaColeman · 23/08/2018 16:02

Everything I better made at home, but especially Yorkshire pudding! Brew

WhatAmISupposedToBeDoing · 23/08/2018 16:04

The assertion that everything tastes homemade is surely dependant on the home maker?

CherryBlossom23 · 23/08/2018 16:15

Well yes, I think having some manner of skill in the kitchen is implied. Wink

Rice pudding is another one! Can't stand ready made.

Shartnado · 23/08/2018 16:25

Birthday cake and cupcakes

Lasagne, spaghetti Bol and carbonara (unless you get lucky in a REALLY good Italian restaurant)

Sandwiches - I have not once had a shop sandwich that was even slightly tasty! What is with that?!

Hunters chicken

Grumpbum123 · 23/08/2018 16:26

Cake

SinkGirl · 23/08/2018 16:26

buckeejit I would really recommend the Annie Mae’s Mac & Cheese book which has amazing recipes if you’re an obsessive like I am

(It also includes a recipe for something called Trailer Park Pie - imagine shepherds pie but replace the mince with chilli and the potato with macaroni cheese. Best. Thing. Ever)

toomanychilder · 23/08/2018 16:28

All food tastes better homemade

depends on whose home....some of my homemade food is fucking woeful, to be honest. Tesco finest beats some of my dishes hands down!

Afonavon · 23/08/2018 16:41

Cup of tea

Pasta sauce

Chili (mine has loads of ingredients but no recipe)

Soup

Welshcakes (must be eater before they cool)

Scones

Blobby10 · 23/08/2018 16:43

My mother was horrified at one family party (about 40 years ago) when my father's aunt, not known for her tact and diplomacy , announced to the gathering that my mothers home made sponge cake (mother is justified in considering herself a good cook, especially of cakes Grin) was "nearly as good as bought"

Its been a standing joke in our family ever since Smile

FromNowOn · 23/08/2018 16:44

You know what doesn’t taste good homemade? Rice pudding. Can’t stand it made.

Is there a ‘what doesn’t taste good home made’ thread yet? Grin

Stephisaur · 23/08/2018 16:46

Cake (but I do make good cake!)
Roasties
Yorkshire Puddings
My Husband's Lasagne
Tea

Now I'm hungry Grin

Doje · 23/08/2018 16:47

Sausage rolls. The shop bought ones are rubbish.

Aprilshowersinaugust · 23/08/2018 16:48

Soup
Crumble
Jam
Bread

Peachydream · 23/08/2018 16:51

Special homemade requests in this house are:-

Pizza
Scones - still warm from oven
Baked gammon, for sliced Ham
Raisin & Oatmeal Cookies

However, a treat is a bag of Jam Doughnuts from Sainsbury's, homemade aren't the same apparently, they lack the sweet claggy-ness.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 23/08/2018 16:52

Cakes, roast dinner, lasagne, spaghetti Bolognese, cottage pie.

GimmeBread · 23/08/2018 17:02

Cheesecake. We're perpetually disappointed with shop bought cheesecake.

Indian curry - my korma is even better than the takeaway yellow slop you get everywhere. I don't take credit for that - it's all about that base!

Chips - nowt better than hm chips.

Mmmm chips! 😋

Bineverywhere · 23/08/2018 17:06

Greek yogurt.

PurpleDaisies · 23/08/2018 17:09

Would you be happy to share? I love korma but have never found a good recipe.

Ohmmmnm · 23/08/2018 17:09

Pizza Grin

Although it took me ten years to finally get the hang of it and I use 2 ingredient dough. If anyone has a fool proof recipe for decent pizza dough i’d be forever grateful!

Nothing beats homemade....
ScreamingValenta · 23/08/2018 17:14

Apple pie, if the person making it is my mum.

Indian samosas, curry and bhajis all taste much better home-cooked than from a takeaway, as long as the person cooking them isn't me because I can never get the spices right Grin.

Agree also on roasties, scones, bread and lasagne.

Have to differ on pizza - you can't beat Dominos in my book!

vampirethriller · 23/08/2018 17:14

Jam. Shop jam isn't worth buying, even the fancy ones or the farm shop type. Marmalade the same.

GimmeBread · 23/08/2018 17:15

Of course Purple! Im at the hairdresser just now ( getting those bloody roots done again) but I'll pop back on with it later.

CakeNinja · 23/08/2018 17:19

Most foods but especially millionaires shortbread. I can’t abide the cloying tasteless offerings you find in shops - they have a mushy texture and you can tell the cheapest ingredients have been used to churn out en mass as much bang for buck as possible.
Same as a lot of convenience food really.
