How much?

Ok just had lunch in a little village cafe/ coffee shop. How much would you expect to pay for a jacket potato with coleslaw and salad garnish and a grilled chicken salad, 1 Diet Coke, 1 bottle of water? It was fine, perfectly nice but not amazing. The bill came to £37 which I felt was a bit steep but I didn’t dont eat out at lunch time that often, so is this pretty standard or expensive?

£11 for a jacket spud? I'd want a rogering by Michel Roux Junior included in that price!

Jupiter9 · 15/08/2018 16:37

I won't be eating be there. Think you've been overcharged.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 15/08/2018 16:41

Ive found London prices way more competitive than some small towns and villages throughout the uk, where choice is limited. I bet this place wasn’t in London was it OP?

3luckystars · 15/08/2018 16:55

It depends.

How big was the potato?

How much?

To those of you saying I must have seen the prices before ordering, yes I had. I knew they were steep but I was already there as was my friend And although I did think it was overpriced I could afford it so stayed. The menu said the produce was local and the portions were generous. Like I said in the op there was nothing wrong with the meal it was very nice just pricey!
Don’t want to say the exact place but I was in The New Forest.

Here in Ireland probably €20 for that. 2 lunches and 2 soft drinks would be a cheap eat- mid range

Dreambathroom · 15/08/2018 17:53

Please post the photo you took

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 15/08/2018 17:54

I'm in Surrey. Which probably explains it!

Shinynew50p · 15/08/2018 17:56

That is ridiculous! £20 max.

Willow2017 · 15/08/2018 17:59

£16for a salad?

My work do large salads and i mean large there are 16 differnt things including chips on them for £9!
Baked pot generous salad and 2 toppings £8.50.
Everything else is £1-2 cheaper too.

You wus robbed😀

LOL at random cafe being more expensive than Harrods, Fancy London Hotels or Fortnum and Mason.

Was it The River Cafe OP?

I had a coffee in a slightly odd coffee shop in a South Yorkshire ex mining town yesterday. Odd because it seemed like a naice independent coffee shop with a fancy coffee machine and quite expensive proper and nice coffee - £2.50 to £3+, but they also did 'cheap market town' food so all the food - meals like cottage pie, bacon sandwich and yes, baked potatoes cost about £3-5. Woman on the next table had a really nice looking baked potato with prawn mayo and salad and her companion had coffee and cake and the bill came to about a tenner from what I heard.

Thinkingofausername1 · 15/08/2018 20:35

The most I've paid for two all day breakfasts and drinks is £20. And I thought that was expensive!

DiabolicalMess · 15/08/2018 20:48

Mother Hubbard they're making a nice profit on potatoes!!!

llangennith · 15/08/2018 21:02

That's incredibly expensive!

Willow2017 · 15/08/2018 22:40
