How much?

Ok just had lunch in a little village cafe/ coffee shop. How much would you expect to pay for a jacket potato with coleslaw and salad garnish and a grilled chicken salad, 1 Diet Coke, 1 bottle of water? It was fine, perfectly nice but not amazing. The bill came to £37 which I felt was a bit steep but I didn’t dont eat out at lunch time that often, so is this pretty standard or expensive?

amusedbush · 15/08/2018 15:44

£10.95 for a jacket potato??

Cauliflowersqueeze · 15/08/2018 15:46

Eleven quid for a spud???
They cost about 4p!!!! What a rip off!

NoSquirrels · 15/08/2018 15:46

Wow! Why did you order at all?

£11 for a jacket potato! £16 for a salad! Shock

I’d have reckoned on £17-20 from your OP.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/08/2018 15:47

OP, do you live in the Mysterious Cities of Gold?

Cauliflowersqueeze · 15/08/2018 15:47

Would Harrods even charge that much?

What was so special about the potato!?

I’d want mine to be talking 3 languages and performing an American Smooth before forking out that much!

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 15/08/2018 15:49

I live in London and I think that’s mad.

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 15/08/2018 15:51

Brunch with DS the other day - one crispy chicken wrap, one hot dog, one side of fries, one side of sweet potato fries, one coke, one fresh orange juice = £41.

I can only assume you are near me! Grin

letsdolunch321 · 15/08/2018 15:51

I would have to return & asked them to justify the charges. Bloody ridiculous!!!

LaurieFairyCake · 15/08/2018 15:51

Harrods salad £13.50

How much?
NoSquirrels · 15/08/2018 15:55

InDubiousBattle · 15/08/2018 15:56

NoSquirrels · 15/08/2018 15:56

HarryDresden Shock Shock

How can a sandwich, fries & a soft drink = £20pp?

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 15/08/2018 15:58

£16 for a fucking salad? Was the chicken hand grilled by mermaids or something?

NoSquirrels · 15/08/2018 16:02

The Wolseley, Piccadilly: chicken & tarragon salad (large) £16.50, (small) £11.

AnnieOH1 · 15/08/2018 16:06

The only thing that jumps out at me as being particularly steep is the Diet Coke. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a pint of normal Coca Cola, but if it was just a bottle or even a can of diet that is pretty atrocious. Everything else seems normal for a more upmarket cafe eatery type establishment imho.

NoSquirrels · 15/08/2018 16:06

Best baked potatoes in London, nothing over £8: thepotatoproject.com/phone/index.html

Trialsmum · 15/08/2018 16:06

Why the hell did you pay those prices? 😵

Being generous I’d say:

Jacket potato: £5
Salad: £8
Coke x2: £2
Water: £1

So £16 altogether

Shutupsidney · 15/08/2018 16:09

Doesn't surprise me. If it's seasonal trade you're paying for something to survive on a 3 month season

goingtotown · 15/08/2018 16:19

Can we see the bill, or have you framed it.?

Bluelonerose · 15/08/2018 16:22

How big was the potato Shock for £10 ide want it to be the size of my head.

Diet coke you can't even say it was coz of the sugar tax.
I hope you got to eat off diamond plates.

namechange2pointoh · 15/08/2018 16:30

Why on earth did you eat there

TellMeItsNotTrue · 15/08/2018 16:33

I wouldn't pay more than £20 for that, so you paid nearly double the maximum anyone on here would have expected!
